Captain Grigory is the very definition of what a starship captain should be. Of course, he wouldn't want to sacrifice his ship, crew and own life, but we don't always get what we want. This character was a true hero. He gives without counting the cost. That was a great episode. Thanks so much for sharing it.

As the Producer of Star Trek: Valkyrie, let me just say that I appreciate deeply the collaboration Project: Potemkin has done with us on our Premiere episode and we feel honored to be one of those collaborations they have agreed to. I've worked on a few fan productions and I know all the hard work, time and money that gets put into making one. I saw The Night the Stars Fell from the Sky: The writing was excellent and the characters realistic. One of the most difficult lessons when meeting new cultures is the importance of not interfering. Given that building accurate sets, and costumes takes a lot more money than you have available, it would have been better if you had placed your crew on an unknown starship class so that nobody could say. "the bridge of that kind of ship doesn't look like that!" On the plus side, you DID build sets, make costumes, write a script and get the whole thing done and posted. That's a lot of hard work which should be acknowledged. I hope as you go along, you find ways to be even better!
@rahadyans1994 жыл бұрын
That was really, really good. I wasn't sure how it would end (though I assumed that, since this was only the third Potemkin film, the Potemkin itself would survive. I had speculated (I didn't watch it all in one sitting) that it might have involved a tragic ending for at least one of the Potemkin crew, probably Lt. Allen, since her character isn't in another Potemkin film. I wondered if Allen would pilot a shuttlecraft into The Void and detonate it, but I belatedly realized that that would be like Decker and the Planet Killer. Thanks again!

I know that in real life, lol, well on a Starship once the course is in its in, but it would look better with them being more interactive. Hopefully this is just a helpful comment for the next work of art. The captains ready room could use some "stuff" on the wall. Bulkhead design, maybe some stuck on polystyrene panels, something to break up the flatness. Curves are an essential aspect of any starship, curves round the window frames, the door edging and so on....

Excellent work there guys. The sound effects are great, although seem to be more classic era rather than movies? I would imagine sound files are hard to come by for movies though? The visual affects are external shots are first class, I was very impressed. Would love to see the movie era uniforms in full, but appreciate the cost involved for that. Would also like helm and navigation improvising a little more when they don't have any dialogue, just playing with the console.
@Potemkin171113 жыл бұрын
@AaronDarkwood Glad you liked it. The sound effects are a mixture between those from TOS and the movie era. As you noted, there's not a lot there from the movie era. I wanted to avoid the TNG era sound effects completely. Yes, cost of the movie jackets is very prohibitive. If someone donates funds or the jackets themselves, we'd be glad to use them from time to time. However, the uniforms we adopted after the 6th production look a lot like the tunics worn under the jackets.

Quite enjoyable! The only nitpick I have is that sublight speeds are not measured in "factors," but in fractions or decimals. For instance, 1/2 impulse would be the equivalent of point 5 of warp factor one, or half light speed. I sure the crew understands what he means when he orders "sublight factor 7" (most likely 7/10 impulse, which is warp .7), but it is odd that a seasoned captain would misuse such fundamental terminology.
@Potemkin17119 жыл бұрын

The distortion is necessary because it's the same actress who is playing both Science Officer Allen and the Klingon Commander. We actually have shown the episode without the distortion, and it comes across badly. The Klingon triscallion was one of several considered, and all were oriented that way. We saw little or no consistency in its use in fandom, and so we went with what the original artist had posted. And we like that wooden table. The post leg of the table is exactly what we wanted. :)
@ti994apc11 жыл бұрын
Much better than I could do. Good stuff. My idea for any episode: Have he M-5 (or M-4) computer on an older constitution class ship that someone activated itself after being the ship was retired (in a shipyard) running a muck either with the Roms/Klings. Well the Roms/Klings cannot stop it because the M-5 can react faster than a person and actually has to ask for Federation help to stop it. In the process the Rom/kling fleet almost gets wiped out until the Federation stops it.

Actually, the maroon jackets were intended to be dress uniforms. We actually were copying the look of McCoy in "Wrath of Khan" in a brief shot in Sickbay where he's wearing an unadorned turtleneck. We realized after "The Old Guys" that we needed to go in a different approach to that direction, so we ordered new uniform turtlenecks as well Starfleet insignia pins to go along with the rank pins. The results, which first appear in the episode, "Archway," will be much more what you're looking for.
@Potemkin171113 жыл бұрын
@Atkin5000 You know, that's a very fair criticism, and I think I am completely to blame in this regard. The very design of the bridge amplifies every noise that takes place on the bridge. Each section's baffles help create an echo, and with six sections, plus the alcove, two turbolifts and viewscreen, amplify the effect. Attempts to mute it result in lost dialogue, which is NOT good. We'll look at DeNoiser and DeHummer see if we can eliminate some of it. Thanks for the input!

I give it a 4 out of five stars. The special FX were good. The Captain was like a British commander in an old movie. The Captains couch looked like it came from the 60's. LOL. Works for me. The inter action between the crew needs some work though. I like the use of lattice on the Klingon ship.
@Potemkin171110 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the excellent feedback! Yes, I think our VFX is outstanding, and yes, Captain Grigory is an old-style ship commander. The captain's couch actually was donated to the production by a military recruiting office when their new furniture came in. I suspect that it indeed may come from the 1960's, and I will tell you it weighs a couple of hundred pounds. It's well-built. And that red lattice was the only thing we could find to approximate the grill work from the original series. This was only our third production, and the first one with the first season cast in place. Over the course of the season (and the series) those interactions improve considerably. Be sure and check out our other episodes!

The Maroon jackets are a good asset to have for any Fan Film Group, however; I too many times have seen Monster Maroons used in very unflattering ways on Fan Films, some examples I have noted are... 1.) Ill fitting and the front flap keeps coming open on some fan films crew, which detracts from the film and just looks like a fashion NO NO. 2.) Maroon Jackets wrinkled look. those are just two things I have found with the Maroon jackets that can be detracting and distractions in fan films.

I agree that in some productions, there's too much focus from the directors on the backgrounds. They fell in love with them, and wanted to feature them as a star of the series. However, it's usually only with the first time directors, and certainly is subdued and diminished in episodes like "Delivery" and even "Doctor's Orders." By the time we manage to post "The Night the Stars fell from the Sky" and "Duty Bound," the background is simply that: the background.
