It's a very nice iteration of the TOS design. Jeffries did a great job updating and streamlining his already fantastic Enterprise. When the production switched to a movie Andrew Probart and his team took over and mostly kept Jeffries new lines and increased the level of detail to make the TMP Enterprise (my personal favorite).

It is my favorite Enterprise too. At least overall and most days of the week hehe. It was the first one i saw in theatres and just kind of grew up with. Have to say the 1701-B is my least favorite though.

I have to agree with you and Misha, totally! Of all the NCC-1701's, the Refit/A looks more visually striking (IMHO). Of course, I may be a little bias because of my love for the Wrath of Khan masterpiece. That was my favorite of all the Trek MOVIES, and it tops most of the Televised Series stuff (again just my opinion). This is why I made the above comment in the thread about my hesitation in purchasing this model.

While I like this design as well as the TOS ship, the 1979 refit is a masterpiece in spaceship design. I do plan to get this and put it next to my Bandai Refit Enterprise. Gorgeous booklet too.

I like his reviews, they are very informative and the comparisons are exactly what I like to see. Gives you a good feel for the item being looked at. As for this ship, I like the story behind it, it's nice to see how things come about. The design is so closely echoed for the refit that it demonstrates how the refit evolved into what we saw on screen. However, I'm a little hesitant on purchasing it. I feel it is not really necessary for inclusion in my collection, because the transition from the TOS Enterprise to the TMP Enterprise is not a HUGE difference visually, and is easily understandable. Whereas, the difference between the NX-01 and the 1701 is quite stark in comparison. The Enterprise NX-01 Refit is a much more desirable piece IMHO. It really shows a large step in progression. However, with all that said, I will probably go ahead and purchase it anyway, just because it is neat. It's just not on the top of my list.

When it comes to canon, they could perhaps say that Phase II Enterprise and other ships were refitted as "test ships" for the new technology that would lead to the other refitting of the 1979 motion picture (Phase III). That after the 5 year mission, and maybe after Kirk became an Admiral, a new or somewhat new crew's mission was to take the Enterprise out there to test it's new tech to see what needed fixing and what could be improved, since refit Enterprise had some problems that Spock fixed in the movie, and after Star-fleet decided that the Phase II Project had reached it completion it was decided to refit the test ships and regular ships for the final refitting which was that of the movies.

I just love this enterprise. I wish that the tv show existed. I believe it would be very interesting... and I would love to see how that story would connect to the overall storyline.

First time i have seen the phase 2 in 3D, and I like it, Inlike it a lot. Probably the pervect version of the refit without looking like a completely new ship.

From this concept it looks as if the secondary hull, dorsal and rake of the pylons were nearly identical to Probert’s design for TMP with additional details, texturing and lighting.

I really like the Phase 2 Enterprise. It looks like a refit of the original while the actual refit looks like a different ship. The refit is beautiful, but doesn't look like the original is in there somewhere.

The refit looks like a refit of this refit lol, if that makes sense. Rodenberry said he always considered the refit/A to be what the original Enterprise actually looked like, but technology and budget didn't allow for that on TV back in the 60's. Even if they made a super detailed mega model TV's and broadcast quality of the time just simply wouldn't do it justice so they went with the far more simplistic (but still amazing of course, it's more detailed than it first appears) Connie we all know and love.

@@TalesOfWar Isn't it funny how Rodenberry like Lucas made similar statements about their thoughts on the vision for their creations. Fans of both franchises (like me) who saw the Original versions of each seem to agree (from what I've seen and read on the internet), that what was done at the time was more than adequate. It helped spur the imaginations of generations of people and I'm thankful for that. I'm just glad that you can still see the Original Series in its Original format without the enhancements if you want too. Not to beat a dead horse on Lucas.

Had Phase II gone through, it would have been broadcast at either ABC (which aired the post-series TOS films in the '80s), CBS (the current owner of the Star Trek franchise) or NBC (which aired both TOS and TAS in the late '60s and early-to-mid '70s) due to PTVS going under and not considered as a legitimate fourth television network (until Fox came aboard in 1987 of course).

They cannot even guarantee a proper crisp paint app with regards to window issuees on their promo versions, which can be seen. The only guarantee you have is a price increase for same said, just smacks of lazyness on the part of eaglemoss. Ranting aside, I very much like this early varient, seems to have more battle esque quality about it.

That's the refit of the original show ship at the end there, I though it was the A. So what is the difference between the "Refit" and the "A"?

Paint application. The hull of the A is much lighter compared to the blue-grey of the refit, and features aztecing that the refit didn't have. Other differences include the markings around the phaser emitters and RCS thrusters; the refit uses red and yellow hazard colours, while the A goes for a plain dark grey. The A also has additional decals on the rear of the saucer section, both ventral and dorsal, and the translucent inserts on the warp nacelles are a darker blue than the refit.

I like the concept of the Phase II Enterprise, even if I don't think the pieces necessarily fit together all that nicely, since it makes the transition into the TMP Refit a little less drastic than jumping straight from the original design. I do have to agree, though, the A came out best for me. Even if for no other reason than because STVI has my favourite bridge design out of any Enterprise.

The registry number on the engineering hull looks aweful. Glad they didn't include that in the final refit model.

I have one of these as well. My left pylon is warped though. I was very disappointed about that.

A question for you if you don't mind. So far I've been lucky, but I know the day will come when i get a big enough defect that it'll bug me. I did place an order once with EM over the phone and the sales rep was extremely friendly and helpful. At the end of our call, she said if anything came in broken or wrong, to call them immediately and they would send out a replacement right away. She volunteered this without me asking. So my question is, does EM stand behind this or is it a bit of corporate BS? I'd like to think they take enough pride in their products that...but I am in retail running my own shop, so I know sometimes warranties are paper thin.

The production art and such seems to show some variations that gives anyone making a model of this a lot of wiggle room. Such as the colour could also be silver or white (not dove grey) and the side registry could legitimately be much smaller too. I'd have liked them to put some metallic speckle in the paint or make it a slightly paler grey. Darker than the Enterprise A model and paler and slightly more metallic than Issue 50 would have been ideal I feel. My personal taste would have been to put more obvious windows on the side of the engineering hull (as she originally had more than the Movie version did) and smaller lettering on the side of the secondary hull. As those sort details are the things that are distinct from the Motion Picture version. But then technically the Motion Picture enterprise should have the most loony pearl metallic paint job - that would make the factory cry to try to replicate - which is likely why no one ever bothers. It's a big enough pain painting an Enterprise D. I'd only attempt it on a VERY big Movie Enterprise personally otherwise it might look mighty strange.

One thing you skipped over in the magazine was the bridge concept artwork which looks VERY reminiscent of what we see in the JJ films. As much as I don't really like those films (as Trek, it's great generic sci-fi) they nailed most of the visuals. My only complaints aesthetically were the stupid scales, brewery engineering sections (seriously, a single hull breach and bye bye) and the hairdryers on sticks nacelles. I don't think I'd mind Discovery as much from a visual standpoint if they retained some of that. It's retro but modern while still fitting in to the era, mostly. It'll be very interesting to see what they do with the interior shots of "that ship" in season 2 given their otherwise great reimagining (though wrong based on canon) design of the exterior. It looks a lot more like this ship, which I liked.

I think if this first reboot of Star Trek wen ahead as planned Star Trek would be different today. I however feel they should have gone ahead with it even just a for a few episodes. I guess with our imagination we could wonder about what this Star Trek might of been. But as most fans know two scripts from Phase II was used for TNG.

As Kirk himself said: "Two and a half years as Chief of Starfleet Operations may have made me a bit stale.." So the ship was doing something during that time. I say it was in service and in Phase 2 refit. The new faster warp drive came later.

Matthew Davies. Still doesnt work... if it took well over a year to refit the thing then you couldnt refit it twice and have it in active service in any reasonable timeline. My dates came from memory alpha but I know the continuity is less than perfect. Other sources put TMP at around 2273, but that hardly leaves room for a refit after 2269, a term of service then another extensive refit becore TMP. Perhaps enoughtime for some missions under another captain but certainly not a refit. Dont forget, the shows and movies get times and dates wrong all the time, or rather they tend to be retconned regularly. In star trek 3 the ship was supposed to be 20 years old.

There are a few things used in Discovery that apparently came from unused concept art. It's like Discovery producers dumpster dived, pulled out all the old rejected designs they could find and thought "we could make a show out of this crap".

They are. They've announced the large version of the A. Looking at the image of it so far (it isn't final) they look to have addressed the problems with the smaller models of the refit and A. It's due out in April some time.

Yeah I was rather puzzled when I got my first Eaglemoss Connie too what made them pick that shade of blue/green grey - it's more like a naval ship colour.
