Kelsey Grammer would have made a great Star Trek Captain in his own series and I live in the timeline where it doesn't exist.

1. I cannot stop laughing at this 2. Instead of saying "open a hailing frequency", Captain Frasier just says "I'm Listening"

Picard wanted him to get his initial freak out out of the way where his crew wouldn't see it. Classy move, respect of one Captain to another.

I often wondered whether Picard invited Bateson to his ship to have a little chill out and forget the whole 'stuck in new timeline' thing, then invited Bateson to play a holodeck program set in the late 20th century Seattle titled 'Frasier' 😉

In his own right, Kelsey performed in these few minutes remarkably well. His dialogue delivery was immaculate, and character personification gave the look of a devoted, yet potentially under informed captain.

One of the best Star Trek episodes from any series. Edit: And Dana Delaney as his first officer standing behind him.

This show is credited as steering "Trek" in a new direction as Roddenberry hated time travel stories and Frakes said he thought the writer was f*****g with him as a director with a garbage script. Brannon Braga really fought to get this on the air.

Just a thought... When the Enterprise-C traveled into the future, it created an entire new timeline where the Federation was fighting (and losing) a war with the Klingons. When the Bozeman traveled into the future... nothing changed. At all ! Bozeman and Captain Bateson were just not important enough to history to effect the outcome...
@ForceMaximus84
@ForceMaximus84 2 жыл бұрын
To be fair, the Enterprise-C was in a hard-fought battle with the Romulans while the Bozeman was probably just exploring some uncharted parts of the galaxy.
@TakaComics
@TakaComics 2 жыл бұрын
Perhaps the show takes place in that timeline where the Bozeman was lost in a temporal anomaly and destroyed, and nobody knew until the time when the temporal anomaly reappeared. And all I can see now is O’Brien in Transporter Room 3 going “I hate temporal mechanics.”

Fun Fact: The producers wanted Kirstie Alley to reprise her role as Saavik for the scene, but she apparently asked for too much money. Also, wouldn’t Bateson know about the Enterprise? Wouldn’t James Kirk’s legacy be well known by just about everyone in Starfleet by the time Bateson commanded his own ship?
@partyguy101ify
@partyguy101ify 7 ай бұрын
Either that, or they realized that putting Saavik in the scene would mean that she would not be able to be there for Star Trek II, III, or IV barring yet another temporal anomaly that sends her back.
@ForceMaximus84

@@partyguy101ify Except it’s never implied when exactly the Bozeman flew into the distortion, nor is it known wether or not Saavik returned to Starfleet after the events of II-IV.

@@ForceMaximus84 Bateson clearly says that the year is 2278 according to him and his crew which is several years before the events of Star Trek II.

In "Ship Of The Line" by Mz. Diane Carey, you get to see this call from Capt. Bateson's (and his crew's) perspective. Of course he's familiar with (then Admiral) *Kirk's* Enterprise, but Captain Picard's was GARGANTUAN by Century 23 standards. One Bozeman officer said: "That's even larger than the Excelsior design."

Worf: "Captain, we are being hailed by the other vessel. The computer identifies it as the USS Bozeman, a Federation starship,....Soyuz class!" LaForge: "Soyuz class? They haven't been in service in over eighty years!" Picard: "Open a channel!" Voice Singing: "Hey baby the blues are calling for tossed salad and scrambled eggs! Oh my!!" 😄😃
