The Klingon Battle Cruiser never moved so gracefully. That makes it look even more menacing.

Agreed that config of Gorkons K'Tinga looks so menacing the sounds it makes as it approaches the Enterprise are truly frightening! Wish we had of seen it in a quick battle with the enterprise as we have never truly had a Connie vs K'Tinga on screen battle!

Always loved that 'Sunset over Khitomer' shot. Excelsior's departure always put me in mind of a child leaving home. Whilst Enterprise continues on into the great unknown, the 'undiscovered country' - death. Where our parents go before we do. Where no-one has gone before.

Two of my favorite all-time Trek visuals: - Gorkon's ship performing that "roll" to train its (disruptor?) cannon on the Enterprise - The "money shot" of the Bird of Prey piercing the Enterprise's saucer with a gorgeous shot from "under" And the "Federation double-penetration" on Chang's ship is really amazing... Same with Excelsior and the Praxis shockwave...

The current generation of Star Trek films may have better CGI and more detailed rendering. But what they lacked is the ability to capture the grace, elegance and heft of the starships from the films of the original series. The current Star Trek "reboot" films just turned the Enterprise into a piece of hot-rod. But that was not the way the Enterprise was meant to be. It is supposed to move with a certain speed to reflect its size. It was not supposed to be a X-wing.
@jurassickaiju145 жыл бұрын
As much as I like the newer films, I can't help but agree. Although I noticed that the Enterprise seemed to move with that kind of grace and heft you mentioned in Beyond.

2:10 seeing that KT'inga battlecruiser swooping in, and "coming about" at 2:47, I remember some line from Omega Ordained's The History of: the K't'inga class S3-E33, saying it was capable of challenging a Constitution class cruiser w/out fear, and threatening an Excelsior class in a standoff situation.....man I always wanted to see this KT'inga battlecruiser take on the Refit Constitution class cruiser, closes getting to that was the Kobayashi Maru training scene in ST2-TWOK.

The ships are beautifully visualized here, I luv how the old Klingon ships are still in service too, even just to escort ambassadors etc.
@RaikenXion10 жыл бұрын
***** Indeed and I like that, I mean even in our own reality, military and especially Naval ships can be used in service for decades. Also without changing subject too much I like how Abrams seems to have done a similar thing with the starships in that other franchise hes now working on, I saw pics of a X-Wing that looked like it had been slightly upgraded.
@RaikenXion10 жыл бұрын
***** I agree with that, It does make perfect sense the X-Wings still being in service, just slightly upgraded. I mean I remember reading something about the Naboo Starfighters had been in service a good while before they even appeared in Ep1, and even then they were used as escorts for senators etc in Ep2. So yes all thats makes perfect sense. The only thing that does not make sense to me (where Starwars) is concerned is the Idea that remnants of the Empire (Storm troopers and Tie Fighters) would still be arnd after like a good 30yrs.
@RaikenXion10 жыл бұрын
***** Yes it did, because all the other little details of Rebelion mopping up remnants of the Empire was unimportant. I mean how many World War 2 movies have you seen that are about the allies dealing with all the rest of the Nazis out there after Hitler's demise? I can purely understand it wasnt completely over after Emperor, Vader and Death Star were taken out, although it would have seriously damaged morale throughout the Empire's forces entirely. Just like that classic phycology of how armies, gangs etc mostly always fold or disband after their leader is taken out. It would have took time for the Empire to be gone entirely, but not like 30yrs, kinda silly writing really.
@RaikenXion10 жыл бұрын
***** Yes but the thing is, where the Empire and Galaxy is concerned in the universe of Starwars, it is extremely futuristic, so I wouldnt see it as taking them all, "100 yrs" in ur opinion, because they managed to build a whole second entire Death Star in very little time. Again my point here is that their technology is extremely advanced to build, deconstruct and disband everything entirely. For ur last part, yes it did like Prince Xizor e.g. This is why it would have been nice if they could have incorporated some of this area into new Starwars, instead of focusing heavily on Old Master Luke Skywalker, supposed last of the Jedi, wrestling with all that weight of the Darkside, as if he could not have ventured out into the Galaxy, discovering others who have connection to the force, and trained them to help re-form/re-establish the Jedi, into Jedi Academy or something like that. But then as you say, director and others dont consider the EU as cannon, just picking little tid-bits only they like, to use in that new film. Like that recent kids series Starwars Rebels, and I heard its based heavily on that.
@RaikenXion10 жыл бұрын

@AvengerII6 жыл бұрын
Paramount wouldn't pay for new models and would you rather the budget go into effects OR get a movie with a better-written script and good acting even if it has more modest budget? You know what happened with the JJ films and the last TNG movies! With the exception of the first Star Trek feature, NONE, and I repeat NONE of the TOS films topped $30million in budget. They kept the budgets LOW because they didn't expect a bunch of people to watch those films and they still generally turned a modest profit. The most successful film was Star Trek IV but all but Star Trek V made some money.

The Klingons didn't want peace in this movie. It was a trick they were making a new cloaking device that would give Klingons the upper hand in battles and it back fired destroying them. They had no choice and wanted the federation to get rid of stations for a battle plan.

@stuartcarr31568 жыл бұрын
+Andrew Shaw Because that wasn't the Enterprise - B, it was the Excelsior. We don't see the Ent-B ship until Generations.
@joshfish28 жыл бұрын
***** fair enough, but they look pretty damn similar, not to mention the excelsior still looked at least slightly more advanced than the Enterprise A refit, so you'd think (with the enterprise usually being the most advanced ship in the federation fleet) that Kirk would command the Excelsior?
@stuartcarr31568 жыл бұрын
Personally I just felt it was just nostalgic based to keep them on it, and regarding the B - personally I thought it was just pure laziness. Like using some of the same special effects.
@sparrowlt8 жыл бұрын
+Andrew Shaw Enterprise-B was Excelsion class .. thats why its identical to Excelsior (tought there were diferences ..same as Excelsior is slighty diferent in this movie to Search for Spock). As for Kirk in command of Ent-B.. Nostalgia and attachment factor from him to the big-E.. also Kirk screwed and pissed off a lot in his career .. i can see half the almiralty wanting to ditch him
@Retronightvintage19938 жыл бұрын
by star trek 5 the constitution refit type was slowly becoming outdated the enterprise a was relay just a gift for kirk and crew for saving earth in star trek 4 in fact the enterprise a was originally named USS Yorktown and renamed enterprise for kirk and crew.

You know whats interesting?? Full impulse is half the speed of light. So 1/4 impulse is the same as 1/8th the speed of light. This means that at that speed, the Enterprise should have Shot out of those Space Doors like a Bat Out of Hell.
@Potrimpo9 жыл бұрын
I'm saying this for the record, I love the new nacelles on the Enterprise-B, but the added impulse engines and the added engineering decks didn't work for me. I know they were installed so they wouldn't have to damage the model of the Excelsior, but they kinda ruined the ship for me.
@geraldward53186 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's true a clunky addition I didn't like either made the ship feel bloated and less graceful! The excelsior class is a funny ship for me beautiful at some angles but ugly at others! It's still in my top 5 though!

Enterprise looks too "white" and illuminated... the earlier films had the ship darker, with a dramatic contrast between the ships lights and the darker hull. Unfortunately, this Enterprise looks like a plastic model.
@geraldward53186 жыл бұрын
Yeah I never liked the paint job of the Enterprise A. I believe the destruction of the Enterprise refit in search for spock and subsequent issues storing the model caused the beautiful paint job it had in earlier films to be sanded away which is a real shame! Some of the lighting is nice in this movie but alot of too many white shots. I believe the new star wars movies suffer the same when showing star destroyers for example
@Demented-Jedi6 жыл бұрын
The original paintjob is still there to this day but ILM went to town with testors Dullcote and knocked the specularity of it WAY down. Apparently they had trouble shooting it because of the pearlescent/iridescent paints kicking up the blue/greenscreen colors.
