So true... what is Konami even doing now since they fired Kojima? They used to have a ton of awesome arcade and co-op action games in the 8-16 bit era but I feel like after they hit it HUGE with Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill they started neglecting their other franchises and projects. Honestly, I can't tell you what they have been doing since then or at all lately other than trying to recreate his IP without him or his team which would cause serious backlash and probably not live up anywhere close. Capcom is still making good games, but they still are doing what they have been since SFII and its ~ a dozen remakes. With them, if you want to play the game with all of the current and potential (guaranteed) future content, don't be surprised if you end up buying the same game 10 times, each with an extra character or 2, a few minor changes to a moveset, or stage backgrounds. You could wait, but if you play competitively at all (fighters being the most likely genre) you are going to be way behind in training your muscle memory and learning the new mechanics, etc. And its not like it was a sudden, unplanned bug that needed to be fixed, new characters added by popular request or buff/nerf them for balance purposes; they systematically roll out these minor changes and market them as entirely new versions of the game that need to be purchased as such. It should be either a free patch to fix if its a bug or let the character be bought on its own. TBH I don't even really like that second idea -- or expansion DLCs in general either. Devs and pubs should wait to release the game with all the planned content right away instead of forcing customers to gradually pay for "upgrades". Once they've created a dedicated player, of course they are going to want the chance to play the whole game and suddenly a new expansion takes away their 100% completion -- its like pushing drugs on an addict, you know it's hard for them to resist

It seems like no one ever mentions Konami's 3D racing games. Most were arcade exclusives and victims of suicide batteries but they made really great stuff. They had Midnight Run, Winding Heat, the GTI Club series, the Thrill Drive series and best of all, the Racing Jam series. In fact I'd call the Racing Jam games the greatest forgotten racing games of all time.
@thefroyukenfiles36416 жыл бұрын
Vectrex4Life Gamers just associated arcade racing games to Sega, Namco, and Midway/Atari Games. So much so that I didn't even know any of those Konami racing games existed until your comment.
@Vectrex4Life6 жыл бұрын
Exactly, they never really had the foothold that the others had. But they were making some pretty unique stuff. Thrill Drive was an inspiration for the Burnout series and Racing Jam 1 was really the only arcade racer that ever had Gymkhana courses.
@thefroyukenfiles36416 жыл бұрын
This requires some KZbin research. Be right back! EDIT: I have returned with additional knowledge in arcade racers. Can definitely see where Burnout got its inspiration in Thrill Drive. It's a shame Konami's racing games aren't mentioned in the same breaths as the other companies I mentioned. They just arrived too late to the party while Sega and co. were wowing arcade goers for many years prior with their titles.

@DrVanNostrand016 жыл бұрын
DDR was incredibly Niche (at least in the United States) and there was no revitalization of arcades in the early 2000s. Arcades were DEAD in the early 2000s, it wasn't until a few years later that we saw arcades starting to come back due to nostalgia. "BAR"cades did more to revitalize the arcade industry than DDR did.
@jokatech6 жыл бұрын
I disagree. This is a thankless generation. While it did have a finite period in time, I can attest to the power of DDR. It was literally a revolution. Discounting it for copycats is typical millenial tactics.
@DrVanNostrand016 жыл бұрын
The only arcades that we’re around in the early 00s were places like Dave and Busters. Which are more similar to carny operations than traditional arcades imo. DDR was commercially successful, it was always seen as a gimmicky / casual game (at least amongst the hardcore gamers). Hence being more niche and it never really gained mass appeal in the US. It was mostly played in a party setting similar to guitar hero but never got as big. There were also games like Parappa the Rapper and Um Jammer Lammy which had an audience at the time and both were liked by critics. Power Pad > DDR dance pad haha

Capcom and Konami were both great companies that made awesome games during the prime of gaming. Both showed alot of love with the games they made and it showed. It's really hard to choose a side unless you like certain genres. Both companies seem to make any genre very well. Like how could they go wrong? I really enjoyed any game they would put out. As for me, I can't choose but I will say that I enjoy Dungeons and Dragons Shadow of Mystara from Capcom and probably rank that as my favorite. Konami would be the Castlevania series. But again it's hard when both companies showed their love on game creation. Konami left the love and abandoned everyone and Capcom hasn't but I feel the love isn't there as it once was. I would side with Capcom but just a very slight margin. Either way, I miss all the quality and love both companies used to make. It's all about the money now.

I think a more app comparison would be Namco vs Sega since they were the main leaders of the arcade. With that said, Irem is my favorite company of all time (with Konami at a close second) so Irem pawns all imao. My personal list of favorites: 1. Irem 2. Konami 3. Data East 4. Midway/Williams 5. Namco 6. Sega 7. Taito 8. Atari 9. Capcom 10. SNK 11. Toaplan 12. Nichibutsu 13. Technos 14. NMK 15. Tecmo

Y'all dude guys should collab with hard 4 games. I know theyd be down and the awkward dad humour would work. Also you need to sink a good few hours into monster hunter to understand the basic controls and then a few more with each weapon type to see what fits you

I like Capcom but I could (and have) never got into any of the franchises like I have with Konami's. Gaming would have been boring without the Gradius and Castlevania franchises. Also Konami did Time Pilot and Gyruss, two of my favorite arcade games. Konami was also responsible for a lot of the music rhythm games with their Bemani games. With series like Dance Dance Revolution, Pop'n Music, Beatmania, DrumMania, GuitarFreaks, KeyboardMania, ParaPara Paradise. Some of those franchises still have new releases to the arcades.

Capcom used to be in dire financial straits. I mean they used to have only $125 million in the bank. But not anymore. Thanks to Monster Hunter World, Resident Evil VII and Mega Man 11. They're once again financially secure and once again one of the top tier gaming companies on the planet. 👍However, Konami is in a pretty shitty state. Poor business decisions ,creative differences, and crap games have devastated the once prolific company. I wouldn't be surprised if Konami only had $125 million in their bank right now. Hell, I think they may have only $75 million in total.

Konami treats their employees like shit. For instance, if an employee of Konami decides to leave the company, Konami makes it their sworn duty to make that said employees life miserable. As in they can't get jobs, their denied visas, they can't get benefits from certain jobs. This borderlines on yakuza operations. Konami is evil incarnate and must perish.

Capcom is on the side of righteousness while Konami has turned to the darkside.

Konami posted their best earnings year in their history in 2017, apparently. They make most of their money off of fitness centers, pachinko and mobile endeavors in Japan. They're actually doing fine.
@Swordslinger-hb1ns6 жыл бұрын
Konami just makes piss poor games and they don't care about quality in the games they release. While as a company they're financially secure the fact that they've moved away from making really good games, they basically ruined their reputation as a gaming company with their pachinko game bullshit.

Oh, agreed. I just had to get ahead of the misinformation that the country is doing poorly financially. It doesn't excuse them dumping their legacy, mistreating employees, etc...

For me Capcom wins because they haven't become a complete shell of their former selves. I love the Konami games more, especially the Castlevania games, but ever since they got thier new CEO who has pretty much shat all over their own IPs and their fans, I won't be buying a Konami game any time soon.
