@@Cobalt985 TNG and VOY are my dad's favorites with DS9 coming in third, sometimes with TOS and Enterprise. Those three are hard to put in order for him, lol. But TNG and VOY were the ones that rang with optimism and that sense of exploration. The theme songs of those shows portray it. Although TNG carried a lot more philosophical points that DS9 fed from, VOY certainly took the straight up optimism that we see in a crew that is able to put their differences aside for what truly matters, when it matters. It did carry that feeling of home that TNG brings to me, and although I'm far from home now, and I can't sit down with my dad and watch the episodes as we used to every year - though we still do schedule - hearing a theme like this one, just, does it for me. I'm out there away from home, remembering home, and going through my own journey, to go back home someday.

Can't. Voyager was recorded on magnetic tape and the quality/resolution is what it is, unlike older shows on film that could be "remastered"
@brianstraight93084 жыл бұрын
@@ryanheckman9589 Star Trek Voyager, as well as DS9 and TNG, were recorded onto film. They were however EDITED to videotape with the SFX and stuff added in during this process. To remaster them they'd have to go back to the original filmstock and pretty much put put the episodes back together again from scratch. Which is exactly what they did for the TNG remastered series. Voyager, and DS9, were nowhere near popular enough for them to likely go through this. TNG also had the advantage of much of the visual effects/model shots being filmed as well, and then edited on tape, so much of them could be reused to they only resorted to CGI in the remaster if they couldn't find the original footage or if it was degraded in someway. DS9 and Voyager used a good bit of CGI which wouldn't hold up in any remaster so would have to be redone as well. Again, to costly and time-intensive for them to likely do for Voyager or even DS9. But all TNG-era shows were recorded on regular film. Look at them and look at any videotape recording, there's clearly a difference in the quality. Recording to tape and editing to tape are different things.
@tiefensucht4 жыл бұрын
@@brianstraight9308 The question is why they don't do it. I mean even if it costs 20 Million, that's nothing for a whole series. Imagine how much fans would join the streaming provider that offers that to them and it takes a lot of time to binge it all.
@brianstraight93084 жыл бұрын
@@tiefensucht It's a cost/benefit sort of thing. TNG cost 70,000 an episode to remaster, if it cost the same for Voyager that'd be a little over 12-million dollars. Probably more since Voyager used a lot of early and little model work so that'd take more time and resources to recreate. (The CGI would've been done for Standard Def, so it couldn't be upscaled. TNG had to redo some of their early CGI work too.) So that's 12 million they have to make back plus any costs in producing discs, advertising, and such and that's for a series that doesn't have the greatest rap. There's just not as much of a guarantee people will buy this on the levels they did TNG or watch it on Netflix/wherever. It just wasn't that popular a series. On some levels, yeah, I'd like to see it redone too, but it's not likely to happen.

We all have seen this intro thousand times and yet This 4k version doesnt seem weird, doesnt seem "off", it pitch perfect. It has every moment, it has every feeling. It has all the little details and even has the reflection of the ship on this ring and it even has the rectagular dark thing on the bottom (which can be seen in the last scene), which was originally mistake as it was scanned from the physical model of the ship and it was the place where it was attached (junkball has a great video about this). The levels of detail you put into not just the ship, but all the backgrounds, are just astounding! Truly a labor of love. As for the ship, personally I've always been a fan of physical models over CGI, but the detail you've done really stands out and nearly convinces me otherwise. (and your CGI model looks WAY better than the CGI used in ST: Enterprise!) From a life-long Voyager fan........thank you!

Of all the things you brilliantly enhanced, I was glad to see you were able to include the lower reflection of Voyager as it slowly cruises over the ring at about 1:13. It's just one of the many small details that has contributed to arguably the best intro credits for a Star Trek series I've ever seen. Keep up the good work. :)
@delphicdescant2 жыл бұрын
but... But that's the one thing that everyone always complained about in the intro because it's a mistake... There would be no reflection there unless Voyager were the size of a moon and half a million kilometers away from the camera, right next to the rings.
@insertoyouroemail2 жыл бұрын
@@delphicdescant good point! saw something similar in The Expanse where a ship goes around a moon and as it goes behind it the ship isn't disappearing in the distance, you can see it which implies the ship is either enormous or the moon is tiny.
@delphicdescant Жыл бұрын
@@Bruh-zx2mc It looks stupid and was definitely done out of absence of mind like "oh, the reflection off the rings would be pretty," but nobody in production realizing it's nonsense. No, it doesn't get some sham excuse of being "artistic license." It's just bad. Voyager's intro is still my favorite ST intro, and Voyager is my favorite series, but that doesn't make me have to pretend that reflection was a good call.
@delphicdescant Жыл бұрын
@@Bruh-zx2mc I don't think you get to decide what "doesn't matter." Star Trek has always attracted people who care about the world portrayed in the show. And from the beginning, Star Trek was built on the idea that its future is a continuation of our history. Internal consistency *always* matters for a story, and since Star Trek established itself as existing on the rules of our own universe, then consistency with those rules is good story-telling. So yeah, saying "oh who cares about physics in Star Trek" makes it sound like you've never seen the show. To wave it all away as "fantasy so who cares" only says that *you* don't care.
@delphicdescant Жыл бұрын
@@Bruh-zx2mc It's a geometric error. That's not a matter of opinion. For that reflection to exist there, either Voyager is the size of a planet in that shot, or that entire planet is the size of Manhattan. Both of those would be errors. Opinion comes into play when deciding whether or not you care about it. But not when saying it was or wasn't an error. If your opinion is "I don't care about this detail," then fair enough. You wouldn't have commented. If your opinion is "I care about this detail but it doesn't stop me from enjoying the intro," then great - that's my opinion too. If your opinion is "I care about this detail and they didn't make an error," then that's not an opinion, that's just being wrong.

For some reason I had recently been thinking about this theme from Voyager and how it has been my favourite of the Star Trek themes. It’s got that sad but hopeful quality to it and reminds me of my dad. I was glad to have found this as it brings back memories of me as a boy watching this with him in the late 90s

I watched these back in the day when I was a kid. This Intro... That music... It brings back those goosebumps I felt back then. Now, as I am older, I've heard my share of music, but never came across a piece that conveyed the emotions of its subject as perfectly as this one does. The respect for open space, the melancholy of being lost. Yet at the same time the majesty of that ship, the crews unbroken spirit and its hope of returning back home. Seeing this now, so beautifully remastered, really inspires me. Thank you.

I loved how Janeway was so intimately aware of the dilemma she and her crew faced. 356,000 cubic meters of Federation space isolated in the Delta quadrant 75 light years from home. How much law do you lay down? How much leeway do you give your crew when it comes to following "the book." I think she walked that tightrope admirably. And Katy Mulgrew played the part with warm good nature and dignity (and a few moments of tongue in cheek)

VERY well done, Sir! Do we know if the original show was shot on video or film? I think TNG was shot on film and converted, which means that it _should_ be possible to re-digitize the frames at a higher resolution such as 4K. Of course all of the special effects would also have to be redone, but man, would it be awesome! I don't know if the other shows were shot on film or video (Enterprise almost certainly was shot on video).
