@@DavidKnowles0 I don't think Voyager was designed for atmospheric transition at impulse power. They usually come in at a slower rate. Also, we don't know the density of the atmosphere of this planet. If it was unusually dense, it might have required much slower entry. Janeway was counting on shields to compensate but they were already severely depleted. Equinox's shields might have been a bit stronger. Plus its a smaller ship which likely did not encounter as much atmospheric resistance as Voyager. That was pretty good strategy on the part of Ransom.

Voyager can't go to warp with a damaged deflector, the deflectors job is that produces a magnetic force field in front of the ship that repels space dust that would other destroy the ship traveling at order of magnitude faster then light.

1- Voyager was no match for a Borg Tactical cube, they were almost destroyed in minutes. 2-Voyager was heavily damaged in this episode from the Alien attacks before, in addition the Equinox EMH was giving them the shield modulations. 3-i assume you did not watch the series, so less criticism.

At 2:44 they reused the Enterprise D 's shuttle bay door alarm. I always liked that sound effect and thought it should be used for something more dramatic than an opening shuttle bay door. :-)

Major tactical error. Should have just held above the atmosphere, parallel to the Equinox, rained down weapons and waited for them to break apart or come back up for seconds. The atmosphere would have slowed the Equinox as an added bonus.

IIRC, in the previous episode Voyager built a custom shield generator which the Equinox stole. So the Equinox would have had to install it somewhere that wouldn't necessarily be in the ship schematics.

The only problem with this two-parter's premise is that it's a two-parter. If this were written now, this would be split over a season. Imagine a season of two Federation ships instead of one, getting to know and like the Equinox crew, and when we let our guard down they turn out to be evil. The problem with the format of this show is that when you watch it all you can think of is "they can't change the show's dynamic this much, something is going to be wrong with the other ship".

That's kind of an issue with virtually every Star Trek series, barring to an extent DS9. You can usually tell who the "bad guys" are within the first 10-15 minutes of an episode, knowing full well that the whole thing will be wrapped up by the end. Enterprise also had some good series spanning storylines, not as good as DS9 but that show doesn't deserve the hate it gets.

B'Elanna can't locate their shield generator (which you'd think would be on the schematics she obviously had as they were on screen and it's a Federation ship) but she IS able to correctly identify, by number no less, the specific workstation the person she was talking to was at? Granted, I'll take that same scene inconsistency over the even worse inconsistencies Trek is filled with today.

It doesn't make sense that the Equinox would have an EMH. Equinox got lost in the Delta Quadrant 5 years before Voyager did. When Voyager was first launched, an Admiral said the EMH was new, and they were only then thinking of putting EMH's on every ship. So why does Equinox have one? Also, the Uniforms that the Equinox crew are wearing are out of date. 5 years before Voyager was launched, Starfleet still had the TNG uniforms, not the DS9 uniforms. The Equinox Episodes had a Lot of problems. Whoever wrote it completely ignored a lot of established Trek Lore and continuity.

Equinox was the first victim, then Voyager several months later. This would make much more sense that Equinox would have an EMH and the crew wearing the DS9 uniforms.

According to the discussion between Janeway and Ransom, Voyager was the tactically superior ship so Janeway gets to call the shots.

@@Darkpara1 That and the Nova-class was a short-range explorer and Patrol ship. An Intrepid is a purpose-built Deep Space Exploration ship, so it's faster, better armed, and has a lot of tech necessary for long-haul missions, like an Industrial Replicator (probably how they replaced all those shuttles). Don't get me wrong, the Nova's a tough little ship, and effective at its job, but it's REALLY not what you want to be in when you get stranded this far away from friendly territory.

Equinox's crew discovered that the corpse of a life form from another dimension could super charge their warp drive, so they started harvesting them, they were under attack from the aliens when Voyager found them, the aliens had started attacking both ships, Voyager built a special sheild generator to protect them from the aliens, Equanox's crew stole it, when Voyager's crew found out what Equinox's crew had been doing they were not impressed, and Janeway lost her temper.

Its like the writers have never been in space. If they dropped into the atmosphere they would be sitting ducks. Just hold course at match speed in orbit and fire phasers nonstop until the ship starts moving. Where are they going to go?

Help me understand how you can target a specific part of a ship through its shields? I mean the phaser and photon explosion’s energy spread around the shields evenly so how then can this energy penetrate specific locations of the ship with precision enough to damage them? Seems like the espresso machine in the galley would have just as much off a chance of getting hit as the weapons array yet somehow they specifically target the weapons array or the warp drive through a full shield and damage it. I don’t get that. Help.

Sorry, but why did B'lanna need to use sensors to find anything on the Equinox? Since it's a Starfleet vessel, the plans should be in Voyager's database.

rendezvouzwithrama Voyager built them a special shield generator. When Janeway found out what was going on-on the Equinox, she had the other captain "arrested." He then stole the device and escaped to his ship and installed it.

Thanks Christus, but that doesn't address the problem of why Voyager doesn't have Equinox (an earlier vessel) on record. Of course, it could be that the writers didn't think of it, but forgetfulness was always a factor with TNG writers. How many times did Geordi swap some isolinear chips rond and increase efficiency 300%, only for it to disappear by the next episode?

Why the idiot quotation marks on address? Are you one of those people who make air quotation marks (to go with their air heads"? Without totally rebuilding the ship, if your putting a generator in you have to have the capability to route the power. You also have to reallocate the space from some other purpose. That limits the location - I know it's star trek and therefore science and logic are peripheral to the story, but try and grasp it.
