Agreed! They re-created the set of the Enterprise so realistically that the production company in charge of STAR TREK told them to stop producing the show, which was a shame. All the episodes in S.T.C. were so good, they could have been considered a fourth season of the original series! Plus having James Doohan's son playing the role his father originated didn't hurt as well!

The best scene of the episode is when Apollo is telling Carolyn of the downfall of the Olympians. "Even for a god, there is a point of no return. Hera was first. She stood at the edge of the temple, spreading herself upon the wind. Thinner and thinner, until only the wind remained." The dialogue combined with the musical score made the scene quietly epic.

There's actually a webcomic with a somewhat similar concept to this episode, called Wayward Sons: Legends. In that webcomic, both the Greek and Egyptian Gods were aliens who crash landed on Earth due to a freak accident involving a powerful object called the Star Core, gaining their powers in the process. They meet the indigenous humans, who immediately worship them as deities. They even come across the ancient Mesopotamian city of Uruk, where the being whom we know of as Hercules becomes the father of Gilgamesh with the city's queen, Ninsun. While it has not updated in years (there have been many failed attempts to restart publishing of the webcomic), and stopped updating during the middle of a story arc, it is definitely worth the read if you want a more sci-fi twist to classic Greek, Egyptian, and even Mesopotamian Mythology. Eagle-eyed readers will also notice a reference to Star Trek in one of the pages, where one of the characters says, "It is green." So check it out if you ever have the chance!

This episode is underrated. Might be a bit of a guilty pleasure, due to the lack of subtlety and some predictability according to some people. But the climax is awesome. It wasn't overcomplicated, of course, and the climax rocked. The repeated thunderclap was a slice of cheese though, LOL. I read once that a the end Lt. Palamas was originally going to be knocked up by Apollo. That would have been an interesting ending. Many people think these episodes, along with "How Sharper Than A Serpent's Tooth" in the Animated Series, "New Adam, New Eve," on Space: 1999, and Star Trek V, are pointless because the antagonist never turns out to be a god. Still intrigues me, though, the whole ancient astronaut theory, whether it's true or not.
