@@bigfootwithinternetconnect2330 except they are very different people. Cassian would definitely kill Han because he has a 6th sense for betrayal and is angry enough to tap into that instinct the second he needs it. It's very clear a lot of his instincts came from his time in prison too. He's like a Skaven. Han just knows when a person he's looking in the eye will screw him over, and to stay away from bigger more dangerous gangsters (which is something anyone in Mos Eisley would know). Cassian has a vengence tempered by idealism, Han has a greed tempered by empathy. they are very different characters with very different priorities.

I like how Cassian was smart enough to see it pointless about reasoning with Vel after shooting Skeen. There was no way she was going to believe him so he just decides to leave with his promised amount and gives the crystal to Vel to return to Luthen. Great example of show, don’t tell (in terms of both in-universe character and plot writing). Those actions spoke volumes more than any words could’ve.
@thegreatjedi3092 жыл бұрын
Show don't tell indeed. I think this is Cassian's best approach to getting her to believe him. If he was really planning to betray them, he would've just done what Skeen suggested and bailed with all of the credits. There was absolutely no need for him to go to extra lengths if he's satisfied with what he's promised, all he needed to do is stick to the plan. The fact that he was willing to stick to his promised cut even when he's the one holding the others at gunpoint is probably enough to speak for himself.
@AnotherScribbler2 жыл бұрын
I also liked that he knew that he couldn’t trust Skeen (or at least not to Cassian’s margin of error) and that if he turned Skeen down the threat was similarly too high. So he just did it.

The writing and directing was honestly some of the best I have ever seen not just in Star Wars but in any spy thriller tv series. I also love that even after all of this Cassian still has no hesitation to put down an enemy, even if they were once an ally. I’m so happy that they portray all these characters as being completely grey. With the exception of Nemik.😢

The outfits and culture seem based on Tibetans, but the whole situation is also very reminiscent of the situation of the Scottish clans vs. the monarchy. They shot the Adhani scenes around the Cruachan Dam in Scotland, a few mile South of the Hidden Valley near Glen Coe, where the clan MacDonald hid from the massacre of 1692. Basically a rebellion against the regime of William III.

I'm glad you picked up on the Aldhani leader catching Gorn mistranslating what he said. That little catch really stuck out to me, and given Gorn's backstory (he said he had married an Aldhani woman, which was his reason for doing this), it made me wonder if he had a connection to the leader somehow also, and that was a signal to him that something was about to happen. I am not convinced that this is the case, but the Aldhani's reaction was clear that he was not expecting to be mistranslated AND clearly also understands Basic. Given the preview for episode 7, I worry that it we might see some sort of 'pacification' of the Aldhanis as a result of this episode. I hope that they realize what is coming enough to get the hell out of there.

For all the people who were complaining how this show is slow, boring, blablabla... Well, for one, I'm glad the writers actually let us spend time with these characters so that when they inevitably have to go, we actually FEEL the hurt ! I would have loved to see Finn... I mean Taramin be an actual ex-stormtrooper with an actual plot going on, or Lieutenant Gorn would have made for a fine officer in the Rebellion. Or how Nemik could have been one of the intellectual beating hearts of the whole Alliance (well, I guess his manifesto will do the work for him). Screenwriting wise, this show is as spectacular as its visuals (that somehow remind me of Dune, for some reason. Maybe the sheer scale of it, so much more massive than anything shot in the Volume) or its music and acting. All these 4 crucial elements of filmmaking just finish to coalesce together in order to cement the artistic identity of this show in the entire Star Wars universe as something dark, serious, grounded, morally gray, and tragic... and so unique ! No pew pew (well, some) every 5 minutes, no mystical bwoosh vwooosh to save the day. Only pure skills... and luck, which as Skeen said, is the one thing that rules this galaxy ^^ (It's only now that I type these words that I realize how close Luck and Luke sound). This show is the Game of Thrones level series Star Wars needed to get out of its funk (despites the Mandalorian's best attempts to revitalize the franchise, but massively hampered down by Boba and Obiwan), and goddamn, does it feel good ! Now the Galaxy FINALLY feels far far away, vast and filled with unknown and tension, far from the Skywalkers and Tatooine.

I think Vel hesitated, not from general nerves, but because she's afraid of heights. They didn't say it, but it wasn't until she looked over the edge of the dam that she got scared. Nah it's general nerves. Being afraid of heights isn't an interesting character aspect and it's not brought up again. General nerves is far more interesting because we basically never get that and it drives home the seriousness of the action. There are multiple points in the episode where they could turn back and not go through with it. This is one of them. Luthen tells her in episode 3 that part of leading is knowing when to call it off. That's what she's thinking about.

It's an instant classic, up there with the best Heist films and WW2 movies like the Classic "Where Eagles Dare", I wonder if Gilroy is a fan of the latter. Younger viewers should watch that and "Guns of Navarone" they are slaw burn, intense war films with Big Climatic payoffs. China's eyeing Kazakhstan too, a country over half China's size with only 20 million people, Xi is probably drooling over that prize. The only thing stopping Xi is Russia. This is a tell all to the havoc and chaos that might be unleased on our globe soon if Russia is neutered, because China will also seize Siberia, with it's 15 million Russian and Indigenousness people.
