The head thing was probably simply because they had a removable helmet mold already. So it was probably less cost to glue a blank head in there than to create and tool a new solid helmet piece to attach to the neck.

They’ve done it before. I got the 3.75 tie fighter a while back and I noticed the helmet had a head underneath, glued. Heated it up, popped it out and it’s unpainted, but an awesome sculpt.

Other than the minor warping on the top of the helmet, I absolutely love this new stormtrooper, and it’s by far more screen accurate and better looking overall than the last stormtrooper that we originally got from hasbro, especially concerning the new helmet, and the natural sleekness and articulation of the new armor. The last helmet for instance was downright very ugly imo.

The Mandalorian version is based on the Rogue One armor. Notice the boots, belt boxes, sniper knee, tops of the thigh armor, belt, forearm armor and the helmet as you pointed out. They redesigned the stormtrooper armor for Rogue One and made it symmetrical and emphasized much of the original's details. this explains the differences in figures. The remnant stormtroopers seen in mandalorian are using that Rogue One armor, with the exception of the 501st members who were cast as extras in the final episodes.

Correct, although 'The Client's' troopers, whilst using R1 armour (which was also re-purposed for SOLO), did not use R1 helmets for some reason. The lids on his troopers were sourced from a third party maker and then painted up at ANOVOS. Moff Gideon's troopers are fully rigged in R1 kit including lids - aside from the mish-mash of 501st troopers all wearing Original Trilogy kit from numerous different third party makers - mostly seen at the end of Chapter 7, but pushed much further into the background in Chapter 8.

@Vince V Watch the Mandalorian gallery series. They talk about during the 1st draft of the scene they thought 8-10 stormtroopers would look good enough. Then they wanted more to fill out the space and that's when Filoni proposed they invite the 501st legion. That's why when you see the scene the weather RO style armor is close to camera and the clean ANH armor that many of the 501st have is to the back.

@Vince V - following R1 and then the re-use of the 'new' kits on SOLO production could only cobble together a few complete rigs of armour and lids for The Mando - having spoken with some of the props guys it turns out that most of the kit was in poor condition and by the end of shooting for The Mando much of the kit is now fairly trashed... as 'Simple Trcks & Nonsense' says, Filoni brought in the 501st to bulk out the numbers of troopers and then after the initial shots, they were pushed further into the background with all of the 'Hero' or 'Beauty' shots in Chapter 8 focusing primarily on the R1/SOLO kit... unfortunately it looks like the molds for the 'new' kit are trashed, although the original 3D files for the lids are still archived... a few of us have been working since 2016 to get a damn near screen accurate version of the R1 lid and earlier this year in collaboration with Nico Henderson a version 1.0 3D file set is now available - probably 80% screen accurate and we are now working on v2.0 based upon some behind the scenes info/input from props guys on the productions :-)

Nice review, thanks. I also have to say that you have a "gift" for posing the figures in a natural way. It might look superfluous, but when you see other reviews, you seldom watch the figure being posed correctly, it is usually placed in a standing position and looks quite unnatural, detracting from showing us the potential of it being poseable or not. Your reviews, on the other hand, show figures being posed with a flow that is unique and artistic. It shows that you really take your time and you pose them wonderfully well. Thank you for letting us admire your art in posing figures.

Hasbro kicking tail making troopers! Moving like a model kit and looking fabulous! Live it. I do miss the holster. The Mandalorian/Rogue One trooper helmet is smaller and more pronounced brow. More round. The mid torso deco is crisper. So another figure to fly off the pegs. Oh boy. Nice review!

I think the reason theres a head underneath is so that when they digitaly sculpt it they can make sure the helmet is sized like and actual helmet and not all wonky like some past helmets. I think they left it in so thered be a bit if an illusion that it was a dude in armor

I feel like hasbro put a head sculpt in there to justify the size of the helmet, if that's the head sculpt they used for jango fett, hypothetically the helmet should be the right size. at least that's what I think, who knows.

Honestly they should've taken the rogue one 3.75 stormtrooper and scaled it up. Its a very nice design just tinier. Scale it up, adjust a few issues here and there, give it the new articulation and we have a perfect stormtrooper

Here’s a quick and easy way to remember which Vader you have. If the tunic goes over his chest plate and has the red and green buttons, that’s the New Hope 40th Anniversary figure. If it’s glossier and has the blue and red buttons, then it’s the ESB and ROTJ Vader.

I think they serve several purposes. They're there to scale the helmets correctly, but obviously Hasbro wouldn't put the effort/money into sculpting them if that were the only reason (look at figures like the Mandalorian that just have a blank head with no face). They're almost certainly planning to use them later (this head would be perfect for a Jesse and the one on the Kamino clone could be used for Fives, Echo, and possibly even Cody) and probably just included them here because they already had the molds and it gives customizers a nice bonus.

Thanks. I just canceled my pre-ordered ST. I think the bigger helmet makes sense because it's a helmet, it's got to fit over a head. I like the poseability, but I usually keep my figures in the box anyway. Plus I'm a bit annoyed that he doesn't look dirty.

Exactly... or almost... The new body has a "beefier" look compared to the old skinny trooper body and really cool articulation upgrade but the torso is too long and the upper legs too short. And the new helmet is too small and narrow but has a better resemblance in the "eyes and mouth" area as far as shape/proportion goes.

This figure is nice and solid. Good weight and it feels cleaner. Also the original sculpt have wonky knees that bends inward. This one is a lot more sturdy and stands very well.

The clone army where tranfered into the Storm cores during the early years of the empire. So it would make sense to actually use the Clone Sculpt.

They made the Temuera Morrison sculpt because they are using the neck of that sculpt as a joint, and to make the helmet fit well and removable they need a counter mold that fits well with that face sculpt profile. They probably developed it for all future clone variants anticipating the Temuera Morrison likeness, but then kept it blank for generic clones and storm troopers. The mystery to me is why they do this for the stormtroopers as opposed to just doing a joint built into a solid head sculpt. So yeah. Mystery unsolved. 😂

Nice review. I like new E-11 sculpt, it's like the Shore Trooper blaster. At least it's not the same one they've been giving us. The new helmet looks more in scale. Maybe that's the reason behind having an actual head underneath. Unpainted is fine as you never saw a stormtrooper without the helmet on anyway. The clone trooper though, that should have been painted. Oh and there were clean white TK's in the Mandalorian. Moff Gideon had them in the final episode of season 1

I like the smaller helmet personally. I like the thicker line above the eyes on the old one. I like the black on the bottom of the boots on yhe new one. All in all, the new figure is much better and they don't have bow legs anymore.

The old one is based on the Stormtrooper look from A New Hope. The designs do change in Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. I believe the Mandalorian trooper is more accurate to ROTJ.

The classic Stormtroopers should NOT show their face. They made it like this just to give it better articulation. It is not a missed opportunity. Personally, I'm glad they did it this way. They can always include a finished head to a prequel era Clonetrooper.

I have two of these and the helmets are slightly different. One looks true to shape in the sculpt and the other seems more flat faced and round in comparison.

I think they put the head inside the helmet just to help with scaling. Having a head in the helmet makes sure the helmet is in proper scale relative to the body. I dont think they meant for people to take off the helmet though.

There's some pictures out there of the Kamino Clone with similar warping on the top of the helmet. It might just be an unfortunate side effect of them being glued onto the heads improperly.

Hi, ‘The Disneyland Neighbor’ here. - Even though I do like the new black series boxes it’s going to make it very difficult to store them in the standard U-Haul large boxes. However, every 3 months I rotate what I have on display and put them in a box. Now it’s going to be somewhat difficult to store them.

Usual Mike Television had a clip of these on his channel with the heads out of the helmets.The Clone Trooper has Jango's face.,the Stormtrooper has a different face on it. I can't wait to see them painted.
