"Star Wars Connections with C-3P0 and R2-D2" - Episode II VHS Bonus Feature

For those of you who had joined the DVD revolution by 2002, you will never have seen this before. It was included on the VHS release of Episode II, but oddly not the DVD. Here it is on KZbin! It's nothing much, but I am curious as to why it was not included on the DVD release. Maybe someone could shine some light on this?
Obviously, this was recorded from a VHS, so the quality will inevitably be a lot worse than we are now used to with DVDs.

Me too. This was always fun for me to watch, almost as fun watching Episode 2. Aside from the rewinding and lack of subtitles, I miss VHS tapes.

If I remember correctly, this was also shown in 2002 on Fox when they showed "The Empire Strikes Back", "Return of the Jedi" and "The Phantom Menace" over three nights while plugging "Attack of the Clones" which was about to be released in theaters.

As this was made before Episode III, I wonder if that gold 3PO suit was the same one Anthony Daniels would actually wear in Episode III. Cuz obviously in Episode II, 3PO has his plating after being "naked" in Episode I, but wasn't gold yet. Didn't know if they'd built it for these VHS bonus features and then decided to hang onto it for Episode III rather then build another suit.

it honestly wouldn't surprise me. it's definitely Shiney like the episode III suit was. in the original trilogy the gold plating was more rusted, dirtied up, and not as reflective to prevent him from reflecting the film equipment. but by the time they were making episode 3, they had the ability to digitally remove the on set reflections, so he was given a shinier suit for episode III that had a lot cleaner of a look

Others have mentioned this played when FOX aired the Star wars saga on TV in 2002, anticipating the release of Attack of the Clones. But from what I remember it was a different verion that aired then. It spent a lot more time on Attack of the Clones, and even the footage they used for the other four movies was completely different.

Back in the day when no-one had any clue at all of HOW Anakin became Vader and WHY he was so deformed that he had to wear the iconic Darth Vader Suit + Mask. I remember a very strong theory back then (right before the release of Ep. II: Attack of the Clones), which said that Anakin had mutulated his own body with a lightsaber, propably because he was driven to madness while getting lured into the "dark side"...

I wondered that as a kid too, because Episode II just came out and then skipped over to watch the Original Trilogy that I had recently bought since Episode III hadn’t been made yet. At the time, I thought Anakin transformed from his young healthy self to his old deformed look due to him wearing a mask for too long. As in he became appalled at himself after turning to the Dark Side so he put on the suit and mask, never to look upon himself again and incurred many injuries as well as bacterial problems underneath it over time, kind of like a Man in the Iron Mask motif.

There were actually a lot of guide books before ROTS that mentioned Obi-Wan and a young Darth Vader dueled on an active volcano, and Vader fell in. I believe this was also in early notes George had during the OT. Kids used to talk about this on the playground all the time when I was young, and finally seeing it was absolutely spectacular. I'm not saying George had a complete plan for each movie, but he did write down backstories explaining how things came to be. Even stuff like the Emperor using a trade lanes crisis to gain political power and Threepio being built by Anakin (probably Annikin Starkiller in the early drafts)

You know considering this was 2002 and how this was 2 years before the 04 DVD releases, I willing to bet that people that after seeing Attack Of The Clones they would have compare both Hayden and Sebastian Shaw seeing how he was still the force ghost at the time and asked themselves "Are we sure they supposed to be the same person"

Back when I was 13 watching this, I learned that Anakin would become Darth Vader! I didn't have internet, and it was after this, I would go to Borders to read up more on Star Wars lore!!

I remember my parents made me start at episode1 on my star wars journey. We rented the vhs from Hollywood video and when we saw the recap my dad had to fast forward to the movie. It was kinda of dumb to put the recap with episode 2 before the episode 2 movie.

The clips of the original trilogy here are of the 1997 Special Editions. This was a couple years before the 2004 DVD release, where Lucas made further changes to the movies. Like the removal of Anakin's eyebrows and replacing Sebastian Shaw with Hayden Christensen as his ghost.
