i had 2.... the first went rip...... the second went rip when i was 14...... but i could copy all of the cd/ instalation files on my pc exept insatalation-file 2 (no idea what the name exactly was ) i searched the whole freaking internet for it. After some hoursd (i didnt want a crack i just wanted the one file :) ) i found an torrent side where you basecly donwloaded the cd.... .that was great buying it on steam to use the workshop was an even better :D

TIE Defenders are your friend. They give you enough of an edge for your Star Destroyers and fighter swarms to matter.

If you surround your fleet with interdictors and turn on the missile jamming feild, no missiles get anywhere near you, which is the basis of rebel attacks. It also blocks the consortiums giant missiles. I have earned the rank of grand admiral on hard by using the empire. But you have to make sure to keep a strong ground force on EVERY planet you own, as well as remove corruption without fail.

This game is an old classic. If you haven't played Battle For Middle-Earth 2, I would really recommend checking it out. Basically Empire at War but in Lord of the Rings.

I'm not sure if that was the one or not (I THINK it was), but one of them had a Risk version. And was basically 3 (or 6?) player, because of the 6 factions. I remember playing through the Risk map with my buddy, and it's a ton of fun. But yeah, discovered Empire at War just about a year ago and got it for my laptop from Steam. Played it when my ship went underway to pass some time, mostly just the space skirmish maps with me+3 CPUs vs 4 CPUs, but it was good fun.

_I once had an awesome experience with this game. It was galactic conquest, and I had left Hoth(I think) mostly undefended aside from two Nebulon Bs and Home One, and three y-wing squadrons. Unfortunately, just as I was about to move some ships there, Thrawn and Piett showed up with three victory class star destroyers and one interdictor bringing up the rear. I definitely didn't have the fire power to defend my level one base and I really needed to keep Home One intact. In the end, I pulled back the home one and sent my X wings and Y wings in to attempt to bring down the interdictor while the Nebulons slowed down the star destroyers. I just barely made it, and it was fucking harrowing to say the least._

In terms of graphics, remake mod is the best. In terms of difficulty and galactic conquest, awakening of the rebellion is the best. In terms of balance, accuracy, and space combat, thrawns revenge is the best.

This is such a timeless game. I could see myself playing this until I’m married. Even if you haven’t picked it up in a while it keeps you coming back for more with all the mod support. I played it all the time growing up it was an absolute masterpiece! Starcraft couldn’t compare even if it was good. The only game I played more than empire at war growing up was Minecraft, but it was Minecraft so obviously young me was hooked. I still play Minecraft 6 years after I first bought it back in 2013. Minecraft terraria and empire at war are my 3 most played games of all time with Minecraft in 1st empire at war 2nd and terraria 3rd. My point is I love this game to death and it’s the main reason why I could never switch platforms away from pc

Also, about it being OP: Sure, Mass Drivers, Disruptors and the Aggressor are pretty broken (and most of it's units and weapons are not lore-friendly, from being falsely implemented like the 90 meter long Interceptor III/IV Frigate somehow being the same lenght of a Nebulon-B, or in case of Mass Drivers, appearing out of nowhere and being better than everything in-universe for no explanation at all as to why nobody was using them before then), but the Empire and Rebels have their own overpowered units as well. MC30c's and TIE Defender spam, anyone?

The only game mode in this game where the player is not being limited with any story assets and can experience all factions in they're purest form of potential. In the tutorial we can learn that Empire does use laboratories to increase they're technology level. This cannot happen in campaign as technology level increases at specific plot points. Just imagine yourself how some players who played the campaign for the first time wandered how to level up they're technology level and they couldn't do that with laboratories because laboratories can only increase technology level in galactic conquest. Even in skirmish mode command centres are responsible for upgrading technology levels in land battles not laboratories.

One of my favorites. I also consider this game a sort of combined successor of Star Wars: Rebellion and Star Wars: Force Commander. Rebellion dealt with space combat and waging war on a galactic scale but ground combat was just handled as a calculation based on involved forces. Force Commander on the other hand was a planetary RTS with your units coming down from ships in orbit. Put the two together and you get Empire at War.

The rebel artillery made me into a man that would spam AT-AT's, eventually I got sick of the rebels and just blew up every planet. I also love the republic at war mod, the space expansion (from 20 - 50) made for some amazing battles. As you can probably tell space combat was by far my favourite. As you mentioned the hardpoints system made space more enjoyable. On top of that that damage from weapons in space was far more satisfying than on land. Of course it's a personal preference, good video mate!

I love it when a game can attract good modding community. It's always fun to see the ideas they come up with. I personally never liked the Zann Consortium. From the looks of things, the developers didn't even try to balance them. Plus their campaign just consists of them easily curb stomping the Rebels and the Empire over and over again, which strikes me as blatant favoritism since the Rebels and the Empire didn't even get campaigns in the expansion. Seriously, some big crime syndicate existed, did all that stuff, and we had never heard of them before? Sounds like somebody's self insert fan fiction.

I used to play this game a ton when I was younger. I still have both of my discs for it so I may try to play it again. If I do, I need to reacquire some Star Trek mods for it. I loved being able to pit the Federation, Klingon Empire or a single Borg cube against the Empire or Consortium. There's nothing more satisfying than watching a Sovereign or Excalibur class Federation starship rip apart an Imperial Star Destroyer. :)

I played all of these strategy games when I was a kid! Command and Conquer 3, LOTR BFME II, Sins of a Solar Empire (currently still playing), AOE Online, and SW Empire at War. Another strategy game I played waaaaay back was called Axis and Allies and I absolutely loved it - consider a vid on that?

My favorite tactic as rebels in galactic conquest: put my credits into a space fleet and research. Use small ground fleets of air speeders that can raid planets bypassing space combat. Hit and run until every building is destroyed, retreat, and conquer the planet. Space station is destroyed by ground conquest. Move in the space fleet.

I just bought the physical copy of this game the other day. Like you said, I became immediately hooked. Great video. I love that I can play Kyle Katarn and old Ben Kenobi as units in the game. Seeing Sir Alec Guinness swiping away at space pirates and stormtroopers makes me smile every time I play the Rebels.

I used to play Galactic conquest with my older brother, he was better in the land maps, I did better in space. It worked for me the fact he always forced me to be the empire so he could be the cool rebels. As soon as I could get the Death Star, I would just go blowing his planets up one by one without bothering to conquer them in the land maps, he hated that. The empire is just better in the space battles, once you start pumping star destroyers and corvettes for protection, the game is over. Not even Luke can save you there :P

Wow, didn’t know Empire At War has that much depth. Ground and space battles? Might pick the game up if it goes on sale sometime. Thought it was just a turn based clone of other games out at the time.

Nah dude - EaW is great, still to this day. Can easily throw away a night playing Galactic Conquest if I'm not careful! Give it a try - you won't be disappointed!

Corellian Gunships were way too over-powered. Their missiles does good damage against all targets and ignore shields, while their engine boost can protect them from almost all return fire.

The perfect Star Wars RTS is the combo of EAW space combat and COH Ground battles with hard points and tactics. PLEASEEEEEEE

I like Galactic Conquest best, but the skirmish ground and space battles deserve more mention. One time I spent 3 hours coming back from near defeat on a ground battle map, because the AI just couldn't finish me off. It was absurd but still fun. The ones that allow all 3 factions are great, even more if there's multiple players for each. These can get crazy frustrating if you have multiple copies of heroes coming against you. There's also the droideka rush you can do on ground skirmishes with the Zahn Consortium, build the destroy droids roll them out to the enemy base and ruin their day. One thing I dislike is that ground artillery has a range of about 2 city blocks at most. I guess if they had greater range they'd be unbeatable.

Darth Vader is one of the most OP units in Forces of Corruption. On the ground he has special abilities to one shot legions of troops or destroy any vehicle. In space, he becomes the Super Star Destroyer Executor which can spawn infinite amounts of TIE Fighters, Interceptors, Bombers and Defenders.

@@Zade_95 It's a great game, you should totally try it. You can find it in GOG and Steam. The game is kinda like Hearts of Iron in space, and is one of the few strategy games that makes assymetrical guerrilla warfare right.

I think EAW could honestly use a well-made sequel though. The space battles alone deserve an updated treatment. Or just as an example, the basic mechanics for the Empire and Rebellion are way too similar. I always thought the mechanics introduced for the Crime Syndicate in FoC could with some tweaking, work perfectly for the Rebels. After all, they‘re not supposed to be a rival empire, they‘re pennyless Rebs subverting the Galactic Empire, recruiting from their planets, stealing their funds and their ships, hiding their own bases under the nose of the enemy and striking only where the Empire can‘t defend. I bet if had actually played Stellaris I‘d have way more ideas for Empire-building mechanics as well.
