two things to keep in mind about the end duels with Kylo Ren: First, he got shot in the gut by chewie's bowcaster, the weapon the movie went to great pains to set up as being very powerful. The only reason Kylo Ren even survived being shot by it is that he's keeping himself alive with the dark side, but he's still slowly bleeding to death. He's not exactly in top form. Second, he's not trying to kill Rey, he's trying to turn her and capture her. He's trying to get her fearful and angry to make her susceptible to the draw of the dark side of the force.

Remember when Ben/Kylo was having a hard time sword fighting Fin and Ray, he had been shot in the liver by Chewie's bowcaster which is a powerful weapon that usually knocks bodies flying. So he did have a bit of a disadvantage. Also they are hinting that Fin is force sensitive. From Kylo feeling him in the opening scene to his gunnery skills, and Maz giving him the light saber.

It’s never brought up in any of the movies, but not only is Rey strong with the Force, she has a rare Force power called Psychometry. It lets the user read the past of an object they touch. She did it with the Millennium Falcon to familiarize herself with its inner workings and how its previous users had handled it. She used it again to see a vision of Luke’s lightsaber’s past, but mixed in with visions of the future. She also used it when she muttered, “The Force…” while fighting Kylo Ben. If you go back to previous movies and compare fight scenes, you can see that she doesn’t just get a power up; she starts fighting like Anakin, the lightsaber’s previous and most prominent wielder. She naturally read its past and mimicked the way it had been wielded before. It’s a case of “show, don’t tell”, where I think I would have appreciated a little more “tell”. 😅

Except in Reality she handled a lightsaber worse than literally any other character in the series ever has. I know thats the Actresses stiff movements and the poor choreography of the fight, but i always laugh out loud when i see/hear how Rey is so talented and yet see the straight up horrible lightsaber fights disney shit out. Prequal trilogy fights were epic, original trilogy fights were a mix of cool and elegant, Sequel trilogy fights are kinda cool at times but mostly disappointing.

Pfff, if that is a legit concept, i'm really glad I hate Disney's era of SW. What a crap of a tale, script and argument for a movie/novel/whatever is all that. Ray is overpowered, all previous movies means nothing just because of that excessive overpowered she is, and Disney's era is horrendoiusly bad for all the easy ideas: everything feels it's there because why not. And that should never be a thing. It never was with starwars. That Psichometry crap you are talking about, stop legitimizing silly ideas. It's nothing more than that: silly and easy. Nothing like the Midi-chlorian concept, that was a smart move by Lucas indeed.

@ It's a concept from the game Jedi: Fallen Order, it's actually really cool as a way of adding collectibles and lore. Is the presence of a character we feel nostalgic for, or several, supposed to make up for this being a legacy New Hope ripoff? The special effects look alright too, nothing impressive because CGI shit is kind of run-of-the-mill at this point in Hollywood history, but it looks pretty good. Still, is that supposed to make up for the bad storytelling, the incoherent plot, the lack of character development... and just wait till we get into the next couple of movies, where they actively denigrate the OT characters and also failed to so much as put them together in a scene.

To be fair, The Force Awakens was a pretty good start for the new trilogy. It gets flack for being a big retelling of Episode IV, but I'm ok with that. Good intro to characters, sets up lots of strands. The sequel trilogy gets a MUCH worse reputation because of the next one - Episode VIII The Last Jedi. Get ready for a complete s*^tshow. Rian Johnson single-handedly destroyed Star Wars. Anyone could see that, even though there wasn't an "official" map for the trilogy, the path Johnson took was the FURTHEST from it that you could go. Oh, and Episode 9 is a mess BECAUSE of the mess Ep 8 left it in.

Everything fans thought was wrong with Jacen Solo is actually wrong with Kylo Ren, he's a whiny try-hard, and all the good things about Jacen Solo, Kylo lacks, and even as a bad guy is a complete disgrace to the legacy of Darth Vader. I would much rather have seen Legacy of the force novels brought to life in the form of a movie trilogy. Anyone here familiar with those books? Even the dark empire comic had a better storyline than this sequel trilogy. And Disney ripped off from both, by the way, there are elements of each of those, and lots of other expanded universe stories that Disney said it was trash and that they weren't going to use, but that they then proceeded to rob from in piecemeal, more and more as time went on. Very good stories, I highly recommend some, especially to anyone who's disappointed with Disney content. The expanded universe safe throughout and declared non-canon, is better.

Final Lightsaber confrontation: You said that Kylo is good with the force but not as a swordsman. That statement is the opposite of what the film makers were trying to portray here. Yes, Kylo was injured but he was a very good swordsman. It's that he had no control with the force at that time because his emotions were in turmoil after killing his own father. You can see this by comparing him at the beginning of the movie, stopping laser bolts in mid-air, with the end, where he couldn't even move the lightsaber in the snow to his own hand. That's why Finn put up such a good fight and why Rey ultimately beat him. He only had his swordsmanship to rely on. Rey was on the ropes for most of the fight. Rey had her own combat training and experience but won because she had the force on her side and he didn't.

Ahh man. The last great Star Wars movie. Solo was pretty good as well though, it just had the unfortunate position of being after The Last Jedi so nobody gave it a chance. Though after The force Awakens, Rogue One came out and the exact opposite happened. People were still high from the buzz off of The Force Awakens and somehow almost nobody before RedLetterMedia realized that Rogue One was simply a movie without interesting characters and people only liked it because they've already seen the original trilogy and they know story-wise it has a connection with characters and a story that people DO care about. Anyway, it's frustrating to see all the potential this trilogy could have had, and then somehow there wasn't even an overall outline for the trilogy, it was just one director, then one who wanted to subvert expectations, and then I don't even know what to call episode 9. Hopefully Disney can learn from their mistakes and realize they could actually make way more money by making iconic classics rather than the factory-assembly approach they used with the Marvel movies and keep trying to do with Star Wars. Anyway, overall great Star Wars reactions!

When you’re done with the sequels, if you’re at all into reading books, I highly recommend reading Heir to the Empire, by Timothy Zahn. It’s the “other” sequel to Return of the Jedi, the “original” sequel from 1991. If you like it, continue with its sequels, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command, and see for yourself if you’d like to continue this other line of Star Wars sequels from there. All in all, the books encompass an additional 40 years of adventures with the characters you know, and the younger characters they pass the torch to.

I was upset with the fighting of Kylo vs Finn and Rey as well, but over time I’ve come to accept it more because of two facts. The force works in mysterious ways. Ie, aiding Finn and Rey in battle. Less convincing but, there. Secondly, Kylo was hit by that blaster shot from Chewy. So he was ‘injured’, hindering him in battle. I accept this one a little more.

Lots of people rag on Kylo Ren's performance in the lightsaber fights, but you have to remember, he's gut shot by Chewie's bowcaster, which they already established earlier on is strong enough to blast somebody butt over teakettle, one-shot kill, and he just tanked it with his intestines. It's pretty fair for him to be struggling.

The reasons Kylo Ren lost that fight with Rey was because he just killed his father and also had been shot by Chewie’s bowcaster. So many people forget all of the guys knocked off their feet by that. I really enjoyed this movie and didn’t mind at all how much of rehash of Episode 4 it was. George Lucas would’ve called it poetry. My only complaint was Chewie walked right past Leia at the end. JJ totally blew that moment.

Kylo was severely handicapped in the final fight. They showed Chewie's crossbow blowing stormtroopers away earlier in the movie so that we would realize Kylo getting shot would be crippling. He wasn't supposed to be anywhere near 100% during the final battle, and he went against an experienced staff combatant. That was meant to be what balanced the match.

So many miss this so you're not alone. Kylo is probably even more conflicted than Anakin to begin with. So there's that, then he kills his father, but, rather than making him Stronger, it gave him more conflict... Clearly mentioned in the next movie... And Chewy's blaster that threw others twenty feet, seriously injured him, even though he stood his ground. So when he met Rey and Finn, he was severely emotionally and mentally damaged, not to mention he had conflict about Rey also, wanting to train her not kill her. All this hindered his fighting. Even with all that, he was mostly toying with Finn, till Finn struck him. So he ended it quickly at that point. When fighting Rey, he simply didn't want to kill her. It's that simple.

I actually like the sequel trilogy. VII, here, I like how it mirrors Luke's journey. She isn't "important" to the universe, any more than some random moisture farmer was. I like how the story mirrors Episode IV. I'm actually a fan of Rey. She was set up like Luke was, to be nothing special, coming from humble origins. That's what makes them both special--that they weren't special. I mean, bog-standard Hero's Journey, but just because it's standard that doesn't make it bad. Fun fact: BB-8 was mostly practical. They actually built a little ball-robot with a thingy sitting on top. I think they only used CGI for things that were physically impossible for the little ball-thing to do. I didn't mind that the First Order was the Empire wearing glasses and a fake moustache, though I didn't think it was all that creative. There just also aren't a whole lot of options for galaxy-spanning evils to fight against. I do kind of wish it was just the Empire, still. I mean, okay, so the Emperor died. So? There were still millions of people in the Empire. I don't buy that all of them simultaneously gave up because Palpatine took a header. Could have just had the Snoke guy mentioned in this movie have risen to take command of the Empire or something. Kylo's lack of skill with a light saber made sense to me; it wasn't one of his primary focuses, so his being imperfect at it is fine. Plus, he's given to unearned arrogance. He likes to play with his enemies, even though he isn't skilled enough for that. It just gives them more opportunities to beat him. Further, you're right. Kylo Ren isn't as strong as Darth Vader. He's a child trying to be like his idol, without understanding how much time his idol spent perfecting his skills. He focused on Darth Vader the image, rather than Darth Vader, the Sith.

Don't listen to me or any other people. You should be able to make up your own mind whether you like the sequels or not. Or even better; what things you do like, and what things you dislike in each of them. Personally, The Last Jedi is my favorite of all of them. I even rank it as amongst the best Star Wars movies ever made. I appreciate that the sequels are very different between each other, not only thematically, but stylistically. Just because they're different, it doesn't mean one is less than the other. If you like a certain type of cinema, TLJ will deeply satisfy you. That movie meant a lot to me when I watched in theaters, and still is a huge source of artistic inspiration. I believe all movies have good and bad things; or things which we like and dislike. But the internet wants to make it seem as we need to think in absolutes ;)

I could not agree more! Star Wars movies are not perfect, there are good and bad things about them. Like Episode 2, to me has the worst dialogue and interactions during the romantic scenes, but it has so many great scenes also. I think it's wisest to see the good and bad of movies and not completely hate on them, since there are good things. I've learned that a lot of Star Wars fans have been hating the movies except the originals, which is very interesting. I for sure make up my own mind about the movies. If so listened to others, I would hate the prequels, sequels and some originals too 🤣

Sharing that info is likely to get a whole bunch of people who can't accept that opinion, but it did some interesting and new things for Star Wars.
