Yeah, that's something a lot of people don't fully catch or understand. The fact that Luke takes his weapons in when Yoda says he doesn't need them is very relevant but also something of a distraction to the real lesson being taught - although, the weapons do technically represent his fear, and willingness to strike first out of hatred or revenge, which is what he REALLY took in there with him, and exactly what would lead him down a path to the dark side, just as he foresaw in the vision. It took me longer than I'd like to admit to fully understand that scene but it is wonderfully nuanced and deliberately cryptic. One of my favorite moments in the entire series honestly.

Some fun bits of trivia here (no spoilers outside of this movie, don't worry!): Lucas' original plans did not have Vader as Luke's father. In the original script, Luke (whose last name was Starkiller) had a completely different father, and what Obi-Wan told him in Episode 4 was meant to be the truth. Merging that character with Vader was meant as a way to simplify the script and save money. Also the other infamous relationship in these movies was a change from the original script, but that's for Return of the Jedi, so I won't go into it. It really is a testament to Lucas and the people he worked with, particularly his wife (who did a wonderful job editing and deserves a lot of credit for the franchises success) and the Directors of Empire and Jedi that by pure coincidence, in many cases, what was cryptic or vague dialogue ended up working so well as foreshadowing with later reveals and plot twists.

Casual kissing between men and women was much more common back in the day. If you really want to get the temperature on how it was when these movies were made, check out some videos of Richard Dawson kissing every damn female contestant from little kids to old ladies on the game show Family Feud when he was hosting.

Ah the good old days before the "Me Too" movement. Now everyone is afraid to go anywhere near a female without expressly asking permission for each and every point of human contact. "If it's okay with you, I'm going to reassuringly put my hand on your shoulder now...". Ugh.

Lando had an entire city full of people to protect. Do you think he'd have more allegiance to some guy he used to run with, and hasn't seen in many years just showing up on his doorstep? Imagine some guy you ran with as a teen, but haven't heard from since... calls you out of the blue saying he's dropping by. And minutes later, a bunch of cops and FBI agents show up at your door saying he's a dangerous wanted criminal. What do you do? Do you help this "friend" who seemingly just put your entire family in danger?

1. Han to Chewy, "Laugh it ups fuzzball"🤣 2. The scene in the cave is Luke seeing into his future if he were to turn to the dark side. 3. Do them in the original release. They were put that way for a reason. Jumping ahead ruins it for you and us. 4. IRL Ford and Fisher were having an affair. She was very young, and he was much older and married. She put it in her biography before she died. She got an ok from him to put it in there. 5. Hans', "I know" was ad lib because Ford thought it was what Solo would say, and required a new script to be written in the next movie. 6. Ford wanted Solo to die. 7. You will learn more about the emperor and Darth Vader in episodes I, II and III. 8. The next one wraps everything up and IMVHO is the best of the original VI Lucas episodes.

Loving these reactions, really love the mentality of seeing it how it would have been back in the day. That's how I came to appreciate the original Star Trek series, and even Led Zeppelin, who took me longer to come around to than some bands. I realized how incredibly far ahead of their time they were, and how it would have blown people's minds to experience those things for the first time in those days. Plus, like you said, sure, there have been more advanced things done since then, but a lot of those things exist because of the advancements these icons made in their field - in the case of Star Wars, special effects. And that's not to even say what kinds of things were directly inspired by it - ideas that only came to someone because they saw what came before.

Unappreciated humor: Luke telling R2 that they aren't rejoining the fleet and are instead going to Dagobah. R2 then bleeps out a bunch of stuff, to which Luke responds "No it's okay, I'll keep flying manually". Pretty sure R2 was thinking Luke had lost his mind, and was telling him, "Hey dude, how's about you take a little nap, and let me fly for a while?", (after which Luke would have awakened back with the fleet!).

Please check out the original voice of Boba Fett, by Jason Wingreen. It's easy to find a comparison video here if you do a search. They dubbed over that actor for reasons that might be considered a spoiler (it will be obvious once you watch the prequel trilogy), but HOLY S*** was the original voice actor superior. His voice is dripping with venom and threat, and he isn't afraid even to call Vader out. The lines of course are the same word for word, but the original version Boba Fett is not taking any bullsh*t from anyone. The dubbed version you heard here.. is the essence of meh.

I was 13 Years old in 1977 when I saw Star Wars in the Movie Theatre. I was 16 years old in 1980 when I saw Star Wars Episode V The Empire Strikes back. The Special effects were incredible. Everyone in the Movie Theatre was shocked and gasped when Darth Vader told Luke who he was. The scene when Princess Leia told Han she loved him and Han Solo said I know was improvised. In filming Take after Take Harrison Ford said I love You and it didn't work. One take he just says I know and says that is how Han Solo would respond. He got the Director and George Lucas to agree and keep the Line.

"Is Rogue Leader 'Rogue One', though?" Without telling you anything you shouldn't already know, when the guy earlier in the search party for Han and Luke said "This is Rogue Two....we found them" he wasn't referring to himself as Rogue Two, but rather the entire squadron. "Rogue Leader" would be the leader of a "Rogue" squadron, so presumably this is the same Rogue Two that was out looking for Han and Luke. So with that context, no, "Rogue Leader" would not be synonymous with "Rogue One". Two different things.

@foxtaco I respect that, I hate spoilers myself; the less I know about a film going into it, the better. That's why I only confirmed information relevant to THIS film - but yes, that knowledge could technically be used to infer SOMETHING you haven't been explicitly told about, although most of the details would still remain unknown. I just thought it was interesting that you would have asked that question in that context, but then I remembered the guy who said Rogue Two earlier, and I wondered if you had thought "Wait, if he's Rogue Two....then who's Rogue One?" So I just wanted to clarify what "Rogue Two" meant, in case there was any confusion about that. 😜
@joshuahartman3132
@joshuahartman3132 29 күн бұрын
That's partly correct - he WAS referring to himself as Rogue 2. The Squadron is called Rogue Squadron, and he's second in command after Luke as Rogue Leader. LIGHT SPOILERS FOLLOW! In one of the new canon books it revealed that Luke named the Squadron after Jyn's gang, and they don't use the number one for any call signs in honor of their sacrifice, hence he's Rogue Leader and his XO is Rogue 2.

If you want to look it up, just make sure that you've watched both the original series and the prequels before reading about these guys: - Bossk was the lizard-dude, bounty hunter standing above the guy. - Next to Bossk was 4-LOM (a droid) and Zuckuss, another pair of bounty hunters. - I couldn't see, but I think IG-88, an assassin-droid, bounty hunter, is supposed to be there too. - Dengar is supposed to be there, as well, I think. At least in the old canon he had some interactions with Han Solo. - Finally, the dude in the green, stormtrooper-esque armor is Boba Fett. He's sort of the main bounty hunter of the group. *Edit:* You asked about how close Luke is to the Dark Side. There are actually visual representations of that in the films. In the first film, A New Hope, Luke is wearing something very close to white. In The Empire Strikes Back, however, he's wearing something more or less gray-ish. In Return of the Jedi, as you've seen by now, he's wearing black-ish clothing. He really was getting closer and closer to the Dark Side.

One thing has always bugged me about Lando...it is the way he refers to Leia as "what" instead of "who" when he first meets her on the landing pad. I know he is supposedly a huge "lover of women"...and possibly more...but that always gets me annoyed every time I see that moment. I guess we have to start with a really low opinion of him so he can rise in our view as he gets more heroic, but that is a really crappy way for any person to objectify any other person, regardless of what sex/gender a person might be.

Kissing especially a peck wasn't always seen as romantic or sexual even, I remember watching old shows from the 60's or 70's where opposite sex friends would definitely kiss each other on the cheek if not a quick peck on the mouth same with family members like siblings or grown men kissing their moms on the mouth.
