When Luke attacks the Emperor with the saber, Vader blocks him not to protect the Emperor, but to protect Luke. Because at this point he didn´t want the same dark fate for his son.

Darth Vader needed the suit to live (you will understand it more with the prequels), and without the suit only his rage and anger could keep him alive. When he came back to the light, with the suit circuits broken by dark force lightnings, there wasn´t chance to survive.

Very well put, and moreover, there's even an argument that the Emperor himself is partially keeping Vader alive like an ROV on a Force tether. The Emperor keeps Vader alive by transferring his fear of the death of Padme onto himself, and Vader can hardly think of self-deleting. Well, at least, until Luke gets involved.

@@visionaryventures12 Whoever spoiled the reveal for her was probably just casually talking about it, not expecting her to read the comments, since many of these new viewers have someone monitoring the comments for them. But not everyone has that luxury. Watching these movies out of release order DOES NOT spoil anything at all. Chronological or Flashback order MERELY moves certain reveals up further in the timeline. These moments are revealed in real time as the viewer watches the scenes unfold. They are not spoiled. There is NO rule saying these moments must be seen in the OT first. Lucas intentionally filmed the PT in a way that you DO NOT need to watch ANY of the OT first in order to understand anything, including reveals.

47:39 _"If you had told me [x] weeks ago that I would cry for Darth Vader's death, I would not have believed you."_ This is always my favorite reaction to this movie. But I'm glad that you get to experience these moments for the first time! Welcome to the fandom! Cheers!

1. Best guess is that Han was Jabba's "trophy" for about a year and a half before the rescue. 2. Vader discovered Leia as Luke's sister because he could feel it through Luke. Luke didn't know that until just before then. 3. Luke's light saber is green because he lost his old one along with his hand so they decided to make it green because it worked better in the desert background landscape. 4. Everybody is freaking out because Luke and Leia kissed mostly because she was trying to piss off Han. They didn't know they are related. 5. The "I love you. I know" was written into the script to get Leia the shot to say it to Han. 6. This was Warrick Davis's/Lead Ewok first acting gig. He was only 13. "Willow" is his lead with Val Kilmer and worth a first time/share. 7. Awesome camera work with the race through the forest. Nobody in their right mind would go that fast. 8. Carrie Fisher said in her biography that the most satisfying part in her Star Wars experience was choking out Jabba. 9. Jedi is plural. With Luke and Leia leading the way they can reestablish the Jedi back into the galaxy. 10. Ford wanted Han to die in the last episode. 11. IMVHO this is the best of the original six George Lucas Star Wars. After the first six he sold it to Disney, and everything changed. Sadly

Vader recognizes Luke through the force because of having met in battle at the first Death Star, then later during their encounter at Cloud City (Bespin). Vader also recognized Obi-Wan through the force because they had known each other prior. We have no indication at this time that Vader even knew he had a daughter, let alone had ever met her in order to form an impression of her "force".

Most of the edits to the original movie I don't have much of a problem with, but I absolutely LOATHE the addition of the "NOOOOOooooOO" as Vader turns on the Emperor. In the original version and even the edits from the 90s, Vader stays silent and the conflict is still every bit as evident. The totally unnecessary addition of that soundbite makes the scene half as powerful as it was and cheapens what was once a much more emotional scene.

Leia technically isn't a princess anymore, her planet Alderan was destroyed by the first Death Star. So she doesn't have any money to pay Jabba for anything, besides Jabba and the Huts have held Tattooine in subservience for so long, it's about time Jabba was destroyed. Really it's only a cliff hanger for about 5 minutes or so until he walks outside and talks to Kenobi. Not too bad of a spoiler when you think about it. Actually the ones on Endor are Scout Troopers not Storm Troopers. Each armor type is a different type of trooper. Vader/Anakin was played by 5 people. David Prowse and Bob Anderson in full costume, James Earl Jones did the voice, Ben Burtt did the breathing, and Sebastian Shaw did the unmasking scene and was the original Force Ghost Anakin Skywalker. Shaw died in 1994 and then in 2004 George Lucas basically erased Shaw from the movie removing his eyebrows digitally, changed his eye color and replaced him with the Force Ghost Anakin Skywalker you saw. Easily the second worst thing Lucas did was crapping on Shaw like that, the worst was selling the rights to Disney who has destroyed Star Wars ever since.
@Phatooine
@Phatooine 2 ай бұрын
_>_ Shaw was almost 80 when he filmed his Anakin scenes (Anakin was about 30 years younger when he died). And about a decade older than Alex Guinness. It's clear that when Shaw was playing the Force Ghost Anakin in his Jedi robes that he was older than Guinness while they were in the same scene together. It doesn't make sense. That needed to be updated. Especially since Shaw looked NOTHING like Hayden.

To answer your question, the reason Darth Vader couldn't sense Leia like he could Luke is because he was unaware she was his daughter so she simply didn't MEAN anything to him. Quite simply he saw a random person with his physical eyes so it never occurred to him to try and "look" at her with the Force. Now once he's read Luke's thoughts and realized who she truly was he would have easily been able to sense her presence in the Force. But by the time he has the information he's dying in Luke's arms..
@ar47yrr4p

@@ar47yrr4p possibly.. But with no training Leia was able to resist Darth Vader's interrogations. Could sense Luke calling to her from beneath Cloud City. RANTING about "spoilers" for a movie that is 40+ years old IS BAD, because the FAULT IS YOURS. *Here is HOW YOU AVOID SPOILERS:* record ALL the reactions BEFORE PUBLISHING THE FIRST MOVIE ... very VERY easy to do.
@jamespfp
@jamespfp Ай бұрын
34:22 -- RE: Could Vader have sensed Leia? Or, why didn't he?; A: Of course, he does sense it later when he's face to face with Luke, but *no!* Not beforehand and neither could the Emperor. The Prequels explore why Not by showing that the Jedi cannot sense the threat of the Emperor either, until it is too late, so that's narrative contrast between the 2 trilogies. If I wanted to show this with an image, I'd use a Yin and Yang symbol where there are 2 opposite halves of a circle, and inside of each half is another small dot of the opposite color, like an eye. That's how the Force could be understood in terms of Balancing, and Anakin helps to bring Balance to the Force and the first thing the Jedi do is to hide *both* children so that the Sith have no way of finding them or even suspecting they exist. Another curious side effect I think is that the Emperor cannot tell the difference between Vader and Luke, and that's why he's consistently wrong about Luke. The Force told this to Luke in the Dagobah dream sequence where he finds his own face inside the mask.
@jamespfp
@jamespfp Ай бұрын
19:10 -- RE: Perspective on the Narrative Because Emperor; A: Yes, and that's why I think this film is ahead of its time for offbeat reasons, such as, most of the scenes between the Emperor and Vader show us how the Evil guys use Hate to Troll each other and that's how they share and maintain power between them. Trolling must have been invented before the Internet. Another curious side note to this, perspective wise: the Emperor is mentioned in Episode 4, and shown in a hologram in Episode 5, but it is a very common thing for most new fans to continue to assume Vader is the main bad guy when he's the right hand man for the Worst Evil, and Vader calls him Master. The Prequels provide all the background development for the story for how the Emperor gets into power, but the Fans asked the most questions to George Lucas about how Obi-Wan fighting Anakin equals Vader so that's the big moment most of us waited for in the Prequels. One of the narrative details that has the most perspective is that Tatooine has had slavery since before Anakin was born, and long after Luke leaves it to join the Rebellion.

Of course Darth IS THE VILLAIN, the most popular (actually not at the Star Wars universe, he’s become the biggest villain in the movies. In the end the whole main saga became about ONE SINGLE THING: The raise, fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker, he’s the main character, and the original trilogy and prequels are all about his story. That’s what makes him so unique because the biggest villain turns out to be also the hero, you started seeing him as the bad guy but it ritmé a out that, and that’s my prediction since I haven’t seen the end of the reaction, that’s why you cried when he died, EVERYBODY finds themselves surprised because of caring that much for the originally seen as the badest villain!

Hello Inna!😊 I am sorry I am late for this one. Somehow it got buried. Your Ukraine accent with an Italian influence is lovely by the way.😉 Your accent is easily one of my favorites!🏆 "Friends" seems to be very popular series internationally. They are releasing the entire series in 4K bluray with a large suggested retail price of $250 U.S. Mark Hamill (Luke) was in a car accident after the first film in the trilogy. His face was disfigured and he required facial reconstruction. That is why he looks different in this film and "The Empire Strikes Back". There is a hint that Leia is Luke's sister in the last film. When he is hanging from the cloud city, he is able to contact Leia because she has the force, too. Vader starts calling Luke "My Son" instead of Skywalker. That seems to suggest some feelings for him. The new death star can still destroy planets, so they had to blow it up. George Lucas did replace the force ghost of Anakin with the version from the prequel trilogy. Originally it was the actor that Luke unmasks who is dying. Great reactions to the final film in the best Star Wars trilogy, Inna!!!🎬👏👏👏👏

Too bad that someone spoiled one of the biggest surprise for you. If you go on with the prequels, you'll have the complete backstory of how Vader became who he is, more about the mysterious emperor, And that was before the Jedi purge that Obi tells Luke in episode 4. So you'll see much more jedis, you'll understand their way of life & philosophy), and much more. They were made long after the OT, so technology & fights are way better, but the story happens 20-30 years before A New Hope. Without spoiling too much, you'll see a young Obi-Wan (still an apprentice, with his Jedi master, and even the master's master if you pay attention), Many people don't like them, bcs of the politics in it, but Lucas felt it was necessary to make us understand why the Galactic Republic became the Galactic Empire with a dictator at it's top. Hope that you'll enjoy them & react, as your reaction is genuine. And they will answer many questions that you still have. Many new characters too, that don't make it to episodes 4-5-6 for reasons that you'll understand later. Hope you enjoy them, if you decide to watch them. Have a nice day.

Everyone in the Movie Theatre cheered when Darth Vader turned on the Emperor. In the original Darth Vader does not say no, He just silently keeps looking back and forth until he just lifts up the Emperor and tosses him. In the original the force ghost of Anakin Skywalker was the older actor who was in the Vader suit.

Next time within a series, watch the entire movie series or tv series and then post them after you watch them. So many people like spoiling things. And some think they are being clever by saying things like wait til the next movie where something big will happen or things like that. Then you go into the movie expecting something so that semi-spoils the movie.

Inna, at 34 min, Leia is sad when luke tells her that they are related and she says she can't tell Han, and she asks him to hold her, why? shouldn't she be happy that she has a brother, unless her and luke did something together at the end of the last movie, something that brothers and sisters shouldn't do? and now she knows she has to abandon her pregnancy , because incest is shamed upon in japanese culture and star wars is based on japanese culture

1:50 -- RE: Someone Spoiled something...; A: Hey I know, I'm coming along months later anyway so what does it matter what anyone else thinks now? Well, I care but for Opposite reasons than most. I don't think anyone should be too upset about spoilers in films that have been released for decades. There, I said it. The more important thing when actually watching the trilogies is that Lucas did have some of these ideas interwoven into the story from the beginning, and definitely knew Luke and Leia's family relationship would change people's perceptions when they watched them again, later. That's why the Fans can't help but spoil things, sometimes... the details are so specific, it's awe inspiring and there's no better catharsis (meaning, the Gushing reaction) than to talk to someone else in the Audience about how you understand it. Reaction channels shouldn't worry too much, I feel, about watching films for a second or third time, and showing us those reactions, too. The Value for some of us in the Audience isn't in this being your First time, is why. Speaking for myself, I'm curious about how people "think aloud" about it. Some other channels I've seen will even ask questions they Don't want the audience to answer because any answer would be what they consider a spoiler, anyway. That's called a Rhetorical question sometimes, but it is a kind of reaction and if the channel's host doesn't want an answer they should maybe edit the question out. I'm not saying you're guilty of any of that, I'm merely saying there's no reason to worry about the First time when it comes to some of the plot twists in really popular media. There is precious little which is totally original, and it has all been done before; that's a safe bet.

_A long time ago, in a movie theater about five miles away ..._ *EPISODE VI* *JABBA THE HUTT, THE GOVERNOR, AND THE BANGIN' NEW SOUND SYSTEM* I saw _Return of the Jedi_ in the Stuart (now Roccoco) Theater in Lincoln, Nebraska (pop. 324K). She took up the first six floors of the 10-story Stuart Building. Like many theaters of her era, the Stuart had once been a live theater later converted to cinema. She originally hosted the local symphony orchestra, theatrical companies, operas, touring companies, vaudeville, etc. When she was converted to cinema, they sold her backstage area. Today, it's a theater-themed night club: _The Barrymore_ . The Stuart was one of those Grand Dame theaters: six stories high, three balconies, box seats, hand woodworking, and gold and silver inlays everywhere. There was a gigantic chandelier over the main floor. She seated 1,850. She was truly a beautiful sight to behold. At the time I saw _Jedi_ , she had a bangin' new sound system -- which is a good time for a flashback ... _Slightly longer ago, at a High School about three miles away ..._ It was my Senior year in High School, and I was several days from graduating. The school held an assembly to acknowledge honor students, which I wasn't. Along with hundreds of other students, I'd be bored out of my mind for the next three hours. Then it hit me, like a flash of lightning: _The Stuart Theater is offering free admission to an obscure movie, so that they can show off her bangin' new sound system_ . After weighing my options, I decided to go do the Stuart Theater. I mean, what were they going to do, give me detention? I was graduating in a few days! As everyone else went to the school auditorium, I went in the opposite direction, to the school's main exit. However, as I was walking down the hall, who should be approaching but the Principal, two Vice-Principals, and the Governor of the State of Nebraska. The Governor was scheduled to give some kind of speech about how wonderful life is and we have so much ahead of us, blah blah blah. I assumed my goose was cooked. The Principal and his Vices knew precisely where I was supposed to be, and it wasn't headed out the door. What I hadn't counted on was that admonishing me in front of the Governor would be embarrassing for the Principal. I'm sure they told the Governor how squeaky-clean the school was, how the students are all fantastic, how there were never any problems, etc. To admonish me would be to destroy the propaganda. So we simply passed each other. I politely said hello to the Governor and nodded to the Principal and his Vices. They gave me angry hellos between clenched teeth. And then I walked out the door, hopped in my Chevy Chevette, and went to the Stuart. _Meanwhile, back at Return of the Jedi ..._ The Stuart's bangin' new sound system was not only bangin', it was astonishing. Imagine hearing Maestro John Williams' brilliant score as it shook the entire theater. It was no less impressive than a live performance by the London Symphony Orchestra. But that wasn't even the half of it. When Jabba had his first line, " *Bo shudda* ," the bass shook the rafters and thundered throughout the whole building. I recall being in the middle seat, of the first row, of the first balcony with some friends. The floor and guardrail shook like a minor earthquake. It doesn't matter how good your home sound system is, the music isn't reverberating the steel support beams of a 10-story building. I sat there for two hours just waiting for good bass, and was never disappointed. I mean, at the very least there was the London Symphony Orchestra performing the score, as composed and conducted by Maestro John Williams! So while this wasn't as immersive as the Indian Hills Theater for _A New Hope_ , it was sill impressive! *Bo shudda* !

The armored character you keep seeing in the last movie and at the beginning of this movie is Bounty Hunter Boba Fett. If you remember, he (and others) was hired to Vader in the last movie to find the Millenium Falcon. He led the Empire to Cloud City and brought Han to Jabba. It is possible to return from the Dark Side, but it's extremely difficult. The way I understand it, the Dark Side works a bit like a hard drug. When you use it, it gives you a rush (in this case, a rush of power). That's why Yoda said the Dark Side is faster, easier and more seductive. However, the more you use the Dark Side, the more you desire its power. Much like a drug addiction it takes more and more from you until it completely overrides your personality and turns into into a shadow of the person you used to be. Vader and Luke can sense each other for two reasons : -They are both strong in the Force and fully trained, which means their presence in the Force is strong. -They have been in close proximity long enough to be able to recognize the disturbance they cause around them in the Force, much like Vader sensed Obi-Wan Although Leia is also strong in the Force, she is not trained and therefore her presence in the Force is fairly weak. Despite this, when they met, Vader could probably tell that Leia is strong in the Force, but he would have no way to know they were related at that point. 41:00 Remember Yoda's words: A Jedi uses the Force for Knowledge or Defense, never to attack. If fighting is necessary to save lives and Luke strikes out of necessity, this is not a Dark Side action. But in this case, he struck out of anger and hatred and had Vader not stopped him, killing the Emperor in cold blood would have been using the Dark Side of the Force. Not many people realize how close Luke was to taking the Emperor up on his offer after defeating Vader. Having tasted a bit of the Dark Side when he lashed out against him after he threatened to try and turn Leia to the Dark Side, Luke was tempted to seek more. It's only after seeing his father's severed hand that he realized what he was about to do (kill his father in cold blood) and rejected the Dark Side. Crying over the death of Darth Vader is a rite of passage for Star Wars fans :) The redemption and death of Anakin Skywalker is such a well written character arc. It's no wonder Darth Vader is generally recognized as one of the best villains in cinema history.

It seems clear that in the prior movie, Darth was trying to provoke Luke. As a last resort, he chopped off Luke’s hand. Remember, he said, “Don’t make me destroy you.” By his dialogue, he seemed to be planning to overthrow the Emperor with Luke’s help.
