Something I always loved about Luke and Leia when compared to their parents in the prequels is how their strongest traits are balanced. Luke is just like his mother and filled with compassion, love, and empathy (Mirroring her last words "There is still good in him.") Leia is her father - a natural leader and extremely passionate about and dedicated to her convictions and cause.
@susanzenonian50852 жыл бұрын
The twins are a balanced embodiment of both parents, really. Thanks to their upbringing. Luke is very similar to Anakin when he was first found on Tatooine, and then matures under guideance. Leia (as we now know via the Kenobi series) was raised similarly to her mother and still has all the spunk of both her parents (and her adoptive ones), plus the compassion, drive, and sometimes reckless abandon they also both possessed.

Seeing Luke's journey from whiny teenager to a capable, mature Jedi on the top of his game is quite a trip. Luke is rather special even compared to great heroes from other stories because MOST heroes win by defeating the villain, but Luke wins by redeeming the villain which doesn't happen very often. The fact that Luke never gave up on his father really shows that above all else, Star Wars is a family drama. Great reaction to a great movie! Cheers

Just so you know, Lando did NOT betray Han. The bounty hunter Boba Fett tracked him after they drifted away with the garbage. He saw where Han was going and reported it to the Empire. That's why he said that they arrived just before Han did. That's why security initially shot at the Millennium Falcon to warn him off. Han didn't catch on and the Empire forced Lando to let him land.
@k1productions872 жыл бұрын
People don't realize that Han, Leia, and Chewie were not the only people on the Cloud City. They were literally MILLIONS (if not tens of millions) of people, and Lando was responsible for their safety. If you are running the city, and the Empire that you are so desperate to keep away from the influence of tells you that you must betray three people in order to keep the Empire from moving in and taking over, you'd sacrifice those three people in a heartbeat, no matter who they were. The tragedy though,... Vader had no intention of keeping his word, and the Empire had no intention of leaving. Lando surely realized that the last time Vader "altered the deal", and that is when Lando finally turned against them. Immediately afterward, pleading for all his people to leave before more Imperial forces arrived. The city was probably all but completely deserted by the time Luke and Vader had their final dual in the central shaft.

That explanation doesn't check out, because for the bounty hunter to have seen where they were going, they would have to have already arrived. And even if he radioed his guess _before_ they arrived, there would be no possibility of Vader and his group of vessels overtaking them before they arrived. All of this assumes the bounty hunter even had the ability to track them once they went superluminal ("to light speed"), which previous canon had established was impossible. Personally, i think Lando simply lied when he said Vader arrived just before Leia and Han. And i think he lied in the hope that he could preserve enough trust to patch things up later. If he had told the truth, "Han, we just received a visit from the Imperial flagship in the last few hours, and they ordered me not to inform you, an order which i followed because if they caught me disobeying it, i would be executed. And better you and your lady, than me." Clearly, they'd never trust him again if he told them that. In fairness, though, he did come through in the end, but he was just cleaning up a mess he himself had made by siding with the Empire against his one-time bff _and_ the woman he loved.
@k1productions872 жыл бұрын
@@no_rubbernecking How is there no possibility for Vader's ships to overtake them before they arrived? Vader's ships had Hyperdrive at the time. The Falcon did not. Han and company had to make it to Bespin WITHOUT their Hyperdrive, so either sublight or very VERY low lightspeed. AMPLE time for Vader to arrive, negotiate, and set up shop before Han got there. The problem is, Star Wars does a terrible job at showing the passage of time. The Falcon would have taken no less than several days, if not weeks to get there. I don't think they'd go for months or longer, but it was definitely FAR longer than hours.

Okay so there were a lot of alterations done in the special edition of this film some I can overlook like blinking ewoks and I do like how you see other planets celebrate the Empire's demise. There are two alterations I cannot forgive: 1. Is Vader yelling No as Luke is being electricuted. That should have stayed silent as you cannot even see Vader's face, but can see the back and forth with him hoping he will do the right thing by changjng that they ruined one of thw biggest rules of cinema Silence is Golden, 2. Anakin's ghost in the original you see an older man and it takes you a moment to realize that it is Anakin, but here they changed it to match the prequels actor of Hayden Christiansen which doesn't work as Lucas's reasoning is that was the last time Anakin was good, NOO the last time Anakin was good was when he threw the Emperor over to his death.

And no, Anakin was good in the end but he was not in Anakin form, he was Vader figure. Happy Birthday Asia!! 🎂🥂 I remember seeing "Return Of The Jedi" in the theater with my mom and my brother in the summer of 1983 when the film was released and loving the Ewoks. I was 8 years old and had a stuffed ewok (like a teddy bear ewok), had an Ewoks lunchbox and had an ewok nightlight. The ewoks were huge that summer. Mark Hamill did an amazing job in this film and gave the best performance. He did an incredible job through-out the three original films and you can see his growth as Luke Skywalker. Even though they were not the main characters, Carrie Fisher (who kicked major butt as Princess Leia) and Harrison Ford who of course played the iconic and ruggedly handsome Hans Solo, were extremely important to the success of the original movies success. They are known as the main three for a reason. At the end of "The Return Of The Jedi" when they were all celebrating that was the last time you would see Hamill, Ford and Fisher be together in the same movie. They were reunited in the 2015 "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" but none of them were in the same scene together.

Yay!👏The first trilogy is complete! My only main complaint in this newer edition is the switch out of the ghost of Anakin in the end. I prefer it when it was the older man Vader, the one that Luke saves in the end not the younger version of Anakin. But I can get over all that because these are still some of the best movies. Much love from Oregon 💚 and Happy Birthday Asia!🎂🎉🎈

The idea behind the Ewoks is that George Lucas wanted an army of Wookiee’s. But there was no budget for all those costumes. So hundreds of Ewoks could be made for the price of a few dozen Wookiee costumes.

As being one of those that seen the movies when they first came out, I am amazed at how many times I can watch these movies and still find something I missed. I am a Star Wars fan and always will be. Now the next movie you watch will be chapter one, The Phantom Menace. Love how the epic movies start in the middle, then the begining and then End. lol In the old movies before, the ending showed old Ani (Vader) not the young one present day. I really hate they changed that, but I do have the first one.

I was six years old when this came out. My brother and sister and I had a ton of Star Wars figures, including the Rancor Monster (the big nasty thing under Jabba’s floor) which was THE COOLEST TOY EVER. It had movable arms and legs and jaw and it was big enough to eat a Barbie doll. Eventually it lost an arm but it was still the boss monster in our play room.

I wish you could have watched the non special edition release. The Jabba Palace dance scene took itself more seriously and there wasn’t cgi characters. The Ewok song at the end was different. Chewbacca didn’t yell like Tarzan. An Ewok didn’t yell “yahoo!”. If I remember correctly, Vader didn’t say “Noooo!,” before he grabbed the Emperor. He was silent. Enjoying your dialogue.

You guys should absolutely watch the documentary about the making of the first three films. It’s called Empire Of Dreams, and it’s an in-depth look at how these movies were made, and the underlying themes. You nailed the main theme; it’s the classic coming-of-age tale. It’s the setting that makes it different from anything else that was being made by filmmakers around this time.
@sandman_says_runrunner47012 жыл бұрын
Actually, it isn't a "coming-of-age" tale, it is a classic Hero's Journey.
@MattKrogmeier2 жыл бұрын
@@sandman_says_runrunner4701 literally, Lucas states IN the documentary, that it’s the …”classic coming-of-age…” story….though he may also mention the hero’s journey. The framework was largely based on the writings of Joseph Campbell.
@sandman_says_runrunner47012 жыл бұрын
@@MattKrogmeier You are right, mistaken, and also backward. You are correct in regards to your statement being based on Joseph Campbell, but mistaken because that is an argument against yourself, since Joseph Campbell originated THE HERO'S JOURNEY (based on Carl Jung and Adolph Bastian's work). You are backward in the sense that he also mentioned "coming-of-age", not the other way around. Keep watching the docs Dude, also read up on the Hero's Journey. You will see that Star Wars fits the Hero's Journey exactly. That comment about c-o-a in the documentary was an after comment. He also said that Star Wars was loosely based on Serials such as Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers (vibe and opening scrawl), as well as Kurosawa films. Meaning these were flavorings and influences. The "coming-of-age" was another flavor, but a very small one. He may have started out writing a heavier coming-of-age story (similar to his "American Graffiti"), but when he rediscovered Joseph Campbell's "The Hero With a Thousand Faces" (Hero's Journey) and to some degree Jung, he basically scrapped it, started over, and wrote the new script with the Hero's Journey as the framework (as you said). It may have a coming-of-age within it, but Star Wars is and always will be a Hero's Journey set in a Space Opera. In fact, George was the pioneer of this in movie making.
@MattKrogmeier2 жыл бұрын
@@sandman_says_runrunner4701 I stand corrected. I have watched the documentary literally hundreds of times, but it’s been a while. Have you seen any of the Icons Unearthed about Star Wars on Vice? Also fascinating, if you’ve not.

Jeez, I just noticed I wasn't subscribed. When videos pop up on the home page every time, it is easy to not notice that. Anyway, the questions you had were what we all wondered in 1983 as well. We did not know the Emperor had his powers. We had not seen Jabba the Hutt but only heard his name, and had no clue of how he looked until the promotional campaign started. At the time, "Return of the Jedi" was the finale and most people, even my young self, saw this as a conclusion without any more Star Wars movies to come. George Lucas talked about wanting to make the prequels, but most people were not aware of that unless they read it in a magazine or the fan club materials.

Asia is the first reactor i've seen to have the correct reaction when Leia says she's known all along. The same i had the first time i heard that. Just total wth
@k1productions872 жыл бұрын
Most people overthink what she said. "Somehow... I've always known" as in she's know there was some important connection, not that she literally knew he was her brother. Meanwhile, at no point was any kiss they shared romantic in any way. One was just trying to make Han jealous, the other was comforting a friend who had just lost his friggin' hand and almost died. Oh, also, they had no clue they were gonna be brother and sister when writing the first two films. No, George Lucas did not have this big master plan from the get-go LOL

Leia and Luke always felt there was a connection between them. They didn't know they were siblings. When she kissed him it was only to piss off Han.
@blueroninstudios2 жыл бұрын
The reason Leia "knew" Luke was her brother without really knowing is because of her latent Force intution. The Force can heighten a person's perceptions and make them sort of aware of things a normal person couldn't perceive.
@no_rubbernecking2 жыл бұрын
@@QuayNemSorr Han wasn't even there the last time! And even if that _were_ her only reason, the fact is her reply to Luke telling her the big news (which was _not_ that they had a connection, that was already obvious to both of them at that point) was that somehow, she had always known that this news was true. Even if she didn't want Luke "that way" on the four occasions she kissed him, her statement was to imply that this is what she believes one does / can do with a man who one knows is one's biological brother. I actually am very shocked that this would be controversial. Everyone who knows the story knows that what you're saying is not at all how Lucas planned it. When he decided to make them twins, it was despite the controversy he knew it would cause, a controversy which he initially did not seek to create but just didn't really care enough to find another way of accomplishing the dynamic he wanted to accomplish.

18 or so years after they made Return of the Jedi, the made the Special Edition and filmed new elements for it. The only original cast actor to be filmed in the Special Edition content was the green dancer in Jabba's palace. She's a professional dancer and she's black when she isn't green. She was in such good shape she looked exactly the same 18 years later. You can also see her boobicle when she is dropped into the Sarlac pit (not that I would ever look at such a thing frame by frame).
