This was in fact the first time we saw Jabba in theatres. The scene from Episode 4 was scripted, but they couldn't come up with a Jabba that George was happy with. They *did* shoot it with just a fat guy in a big fur coat, but then George decided that it was not important enough for that movie, since the Greedo scene had already established Han's motivation. Later, in 1997, we got the Special Editions, where he decided to restore the scene. Since CGI technology had improved, he painted over the fat guy with the CGI Jabba. The CGI was improved again with the Blu-ray edition. However, it couldn't totally be hidden that Harrison Ford acted against a human. When he moved behind him, they had to make it so Han stepped on Jabba's tail. And the line "You're a wonderful human being" was really just because as shot, Jabba *was* human, but it works as an insult now.

With regard to how Luke and Leia each caught on to their sibling relationship so quickly, even though they seemed to have romantic feelings before... . They've always been bound together through the Force. What they felt at first was an inexplicable connection to one another, a level of trust and caring and "rightness". It would've been very easily confused with "love at first sight". But it wasn't romantic love, which is why it never went anywhere and why Leia ended up with Han. . Once the revelation of their family was brought up, it immediately clicked with what they'd both been feeling all that time. It was "right".
@Ambaryerno Жыл бұрын
Of course the REAL explanation is that Leia was never planned to be Luke's sister in the first place. Nor was she going to be the "other" Yoda mentions in Empire. Lucas did NOT have the "Grand Plan" he insists on when he started work on the Prequels, but was always making things up as he went along.

The shot where the two fleets fly though each other was the most complicated SFX shot, in terms of the number of elements involved (over 100), ever attempted at the time, and it was all done with models, motion control and manual compositing: not a hint of CGI. There's also a tiny mistake in it: a tiny ship in the distance flies _in front_ of one that's supposed to be much closer.

As a long time Star Wars fan it is always so nice seeing the younger generation find, appreciate and love Star Wars. 4-6 are about hope and ultimately redemption for Darth Vader. Sadly, movies of today tend to be very dark with bleak outlooks on society. I always recommend to viewers to take the time to watch the documentary "Empire of Dreams". It not only shows the making of with interviews with the cast and of course George Lucas, but does a really great job of showing why Star Wars became the worldwide phenomenon that it did. Movies of the late 70's had also become very dark/gritty without hope or optimism and it changed the culture of movies and movie making due to the special effects. I hope you continue with EP's 1-3. Understand going in that 1 & 2 have flaws of character choices, acting and dialog but EP 3 is emotional and so well done.

@@waterbeauty85 what goads me, though it shouldn't, is how people with say "plot holes" for Disney or prequels and act as if the originals were Gospel perfection "as George Lucas intended" (though ironically upset at him for not allowing us to have the non CGI doctored up version, which I agree with). Ok, here's the thing about Luke and Leia being brother and sister. Originally, Luke was going to go off into space to look for his sister at the end of Return of the Jedi, and that scene where he tells Leia she is his sister was going to be Luke telling Leia he's going to peace out and look for his sister once this is all over. And tell her it is OK for her to marry Han. Then Han was gonna die (as per Harrison Fords request) and Luke would leave and Leia would be alone. And then Lucas was like "It doesn't solve the love triangle between Han/Leia/Luke" well enough - and its a downer - and Lucas decided he didn't want to do a story about Luke looking for his sister - so to explain Yodas words about "another" they went with Leia being Luke's sister. It settles the love triangle very firmly, and everyone stays together at the end. Han and Luke can become brother in law and Luke maintains a special relationship with Leia. I have NO IDEA why they had Leia add "Somehow, I've always known" - Lucas, at this point, was showing signs of the insanity that is to come. Like. What do you mean you KNEW, that is WEIRD AF - it really messes with Leia's character... Lucas's grand story finally started to crack towards the end of "Return of The Jedi" - and, well... let's just see what you think of the prequels... Also Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher (Han and Leia) had an affair on set, the chemistry between them is very real.

As someone else pointed out, the "bears" do have a name. "Ewoks" (singular: Ewok) When pushed to the breaking point of his inner conflict, Darth Vader's solution was "Yeet the Emperor" Maggy, even though it isn't her first time watching still missed that the Emperor told Luke "The deflector shield will be quite operational" when his friends arrive, he didn't say the Death Star would be operational. He wasn't *quite* dumb enough to admit that, even though he believed he had an unstoppable plan. Cute as you consider the ewoks, don't forget they intended to use Han, Luke and Chewbacca as the "main course of a banquet" in honor of C-3PO. They are savage little critters. I felt slighted by the post prequel edition of this series because Anakin appeared as a Force Ghost played by the actor who portrayed him in Episode 2 and 3, which were made much later, and as such, they cut out the actor in that scene who played Vader in this episode from that scene. Though I always took the "I know, somehow I've always known" from Leia to be she was aware of some strong connection, it wasn't that she knew they were family, I can understand how it gets misunderstood. As for the last item I would put here, I won't because strictly speaking you have to watch the prequels (release decades later) first, or I would be asking a question which is inherently a spoiler.

47:25 and that right there is proof that they did NOT need to ADR in Vader saying "No" repeatedly when Palpatine was frying Luke when ROTJ was re-released on DVD...the way the scene was originally shot, with Vader looking back and forth and focusing more and more on his son, was all that was needed to provide full context of the emotional conflict within him for the viewer (and IMO was far more powerful than the cliche trope of "No, no, nooooo").

Yeah! I’ve been saying this forever! I used to watch this film on vhs until it was worn off, then I watched it in disney plus and was outraged when he said “no” it was literally perfect the way it was

the ending hits so hard the 2nd time because she's seen ep 2 & 3, which adds so much weight to Anikin's arch and the finale of 6. this is where the "Machete Sequence" (45236) makes its argument.

A pyre (Ancient Greek: πυρά; pyrá, from πῦρ, pyr, "fire"), also known as a funeral pyre, is a structure, usually made of wood, for burning a body as part of a funeral rite or execution. As a form of cremation, a body is placed upon or under the pyre, which is then set on fire.

Glad both of you girls watching the movie of Return Of The Jedi though the bears you referring to they called Ewoks! It was truly sad seeing Darth Vader dying after just to take a look at his son one last time 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

Damn, go Blue! Getting the Leia twist just before it happened! And then your reaction to remembering they kissed 🤣 Oh my god! When Blue said the At-St looked cute and then Magy's reaction 🤣 I love the scenes between Luke, Vader and the Emporer. I still get chills over Luke's internal battle - trying to save his father, protect his friends, hold back the dark side..and that music swell as Luke strikes out! John Williams at his best! And then Vader becoming Anakin once more to save his son, so so good. Great reaction, glad you enjoyed it Blue and that Magy still loves it! Also super cool having you two react at once, seeing Blue's first impressions and Magy's re-reactions

Not to mention the little bastards coat their arrows and knives in natural venoms and poisons that can cause anything from blindness, to paralysis and/or respiratory failure. among other horrible things. Making the Stormtrooper armor even more of a joke when a stone tipped arrow dipped in that nasty stuff cant protect them.

Awesome reaction BLue. I didn't sexpect you to get so emotional for the end. But the power of Star Wars got to you. The sacrifice of Anikin to save Luke from the Emperor broke you. And then to have Anikin say that Luke saved him even though he was going to die. The ultimate self sacrifice for your child.

Anyone else wonder where Leia got the Ewok dress? Especially one that fits her so well? Did the Ewoks eat someone else her size and save clothing?
@garethhackney48142 жыл бұрын
The main Ewok, WIcket, is played by Warrick Davies who also returned for the Ewok movies. I'd highly recommend another film he was in soon to have a follow up series on Disney+ with him reprising his role as the titular character, Willow.

I remember seeing this movie for my 5th birthday. I had a birthday party with friends and my mom made me a Darth Vader held my cake. I still have that pan and make cakes in it on special occasions. Two series of books in the SW Universe to read; the Han Solo Trilogy and any book on Admiral Thrawn, particularly the first 3.

Blue: He has a brother? Magy: 🙄 Blue: They should be called the “stump troopers” Me: [subscribed] Magy: “Dangerous cuteness” Blue: Yes… the *best* kind of cuteness Me: Why, thank you😏

Fun fact: The "bear" is called an Ewok. The first one we see is named Wicket. He's played by Warwick Davis, and was 11 years old at the time. His first movie. He later plays Willow Ufgood in the movie "Willow", produced by George Lucas, which is another great movie..... One I highly recommend.

Slave-girl Leia is a major school-boy fantasy. Carrie Fisher had great legs and hips! 14:40 The Rancor-keeper is so heart-broken! You really feel for him. 33:00 I don't think she literally means she knew they were siblings, just that she knew there was some connection. 47:50 Why does the Empire keep building things with bottomless holes? When I saw the film 'Independance Day' as the woman drove the truck out of the exploding city it made me think of the Falcon flying out of the exploding Death Star. 51:34 Not quite, a funeral pyre. 53:20 i don't think so, they are 'force ghosts' only Luke can see them. Leia could if she had training, but not at this stage.
@josephD323 жыл бұрын
Vader saying, "No! Nooooo!" was added actually fairly recently. In the original version, he didn't say anything, which really caught the Emperor by surprise.
@StCerberusEngel3 жыл бұрын
And you really didn't need them to add that in. You can tell just by Prowse's physical acting what's about to happen. The lost art of subtlety.

The image of Anakin with Yoda and Obi-Wan is of the young actor who played Anakin and Darth Vader in The Prequels (1999-2005). Obviously this is not who was originally shown as Anakin in 1983 at the end of Return of the Jedi. It was an older actor named Sébastien Shaw. When George Lucas "re-mastered" the original around the time of the Prequels he put the younger actor in for Anakin for famliarity for new fans of Star Wars.
