Leia did get to spend time with her Dad. He dropped in to see her when she was cruising in her spaceship, then she hung out with him at his work on the first Death Star, he was right there with her when she got to farewell the people of the planet she was a princess of, and she had dinner with him when Vader met her new boyfriend. He was even coming to her workplace after she left the first Death Star, but her future boyfriend and her brother made a mess of that.

The Jedi Order always banned Jedi having personal connections, attachments or entanglements. But it was Luke and Anakin's family connection that saved the galaxy. If Luke had listened to the Jedi Darth Vader would not have been connected to him and would not have saved him. Vader knew that if he opposed the Emperor he was dead, one force attack and his life support tech would fail, but he thought that it was worth it to save Luke. Luke went there to save Vader, no other reason as the Rebels were trying to blow the place up. Luke wanted to redeem Anakin before this. Luke is a good son, a good man, but a bad Jedi. Lucky for the galaxy.

One could argue that the other Jedi were the ones who were bad at it, seeing as they ignored a key element of human nature.
@Vladimir_Fedorov27
@Vladimir_Fedorov27 Жыл бұрын
The Jedi banned it because it was the easiest way to prevent attachment which COULD and sometimes have led to the dark side. It wasn't always that way. The prequels show that this system wasn't perfect and that the Jedi were too stuck in their own doctrine to prevent the rise of the Sith. And the prequels show the difference in attachment as Lucas himself saw it - selfish one agains selfless one. The Jedi of old, those way before the prequels and Luke's New Order in lore both allowed attachment if it was self less and didn't interfere with the duties of the Jedi. So basically, Luke's what a Jedi SHOULD have been so the whole prequel tragedy didn't happen.
@jmwilliamsart
@jmwilliamsart Жыл бұрын
@@Vladimir_Fedorov27 Indeed, the Jedi in the prequels had become too dogmatic, arrogant, too detached from others, and far too subservient to a corrupt Republic. Both the Jedi and the Republic were not what they once were. Qui Gon was the last true Jedi until Luke came along, he was the only person who could’ve gave Anakin the emotional support and guidance that he really needed. What’s ironic is that in the past the Jedi were more pragmatic, adaptable, and open minded. And the Sith were the ones who were stuck in their own dogma. Now their roles had been reversed, and it’s the Sith who had changed, and evolved.

The vision in the cave in Empire is often misinterpreted by hinting Vader is Luke's father. During the final battle, Luke uses his rage and anger to defeat Vader (amazing fight and the score is chilling btw). The Emperor says "take your father's place at my side", Luke snaps out of it, looks down at his mechanical hand then see's his father's missing mechanical hand and remembers the vision of him in the Vader suit, realizing if he continues, he will become what the Emperor wants.

Your reactions to Vader saving Luke, and Anakin's Force ghost appearing were priceless. I've always thought of Return of the Jedi as being my third favorite Star Wars film, but after my most recent watch I realized it could easily be higher on my list purely because of how it makes me feel. All of the moments where Luke and Vader are on screen together always hit me in the feels, especially the two I mentioned and the scene where Luke takes Anakin's mask off. Vader constantly thought about overthrowing Palpatine, however he realized that his master would probably best him. If Vader didn't lose all of his limbs he would have been able to reach his full potential with the Force, and he would have been able to defeat Palpatine with ease. Palpatine also intentionally made Vader's suit beyond uncomfortable to be in, and sensitive to Force lightning, which is what killed Anakin in the end because he took a bunch of it while saving Luke. I'm happy you overcame your bias and finally got to enjoy the original trilogy 🎆

The script in this movie is so well done....Yoda you almost can tell knew this maybe the outcome as he did state to kill Darth Vadar but to confront him..to confront his father..as he said a Jedi with Force at his side...meant that he needed to show Anakin the opposite. Luke never seeing his dad as Sith Lord, but always as his dad...Anakin heard Luke. "I am Jedi like my father before me." Then his Luke with his Dad..."I have got to save you." Anakin, "You already have." Meaning not saving his life but his soul. So beautiful.

41:20 funnily enough there was never really a moment where Palpatine decided to be evil. He just was. He was a politician on Naboo who was approached by a Sith Lord named Darth Plagueis, after Plagueis realised his potential with the force. He was offered power by him and Palpatine knew he was being manipulated the whole time, but went along with it because he wanted the power that was offered. He brutally killed his own family, not because Plagueis ordered him to do it, but because he thought they would "get in the way". He eventually even killed Plagueis in his sleep and usurped him. But I think thats the most frightening thing about Emperor Palpatine. There was never a "he's evil because of" moment with him. He just did it because he could. Edit: also I've just noticed your Hellraiser-Grogu on your left, its amazing 😂

I remember when this first came out, many people were disappointed at the reveal of Anakin's face because they expected it to be really shocking like one of the classic disfigured villains out of a horror movies, and I was one of those people. However, I now see it the way the late Joseph Campbell, author of "The Power of Myth Through Time," "Hero With a Thousand Faces," and "The Hero's Journey," did when he said that you to expect to find something frightening but instead find a sad, regret-filled, tragic figure reduced into this pale, sluglike man as the result of choosing the wrong path. 53:03 In the original version, before the prequels were made, Anakin's Force ghost was the older man that Luke saw when he removed Vader's helmet (but with hair and no scars), and the HISHE (How It Should Have Ended) channel piked fun at CGI-ing Hayden Christiansen into the re-release version by depicting Anakin's ghost as the older man with scars and missing all four limbs and having Luke say "Thank you, father, for appearing to me as I knew you instead of some younger version of yourself that I wouldn't have recognized." My little sister are divided on it. She sees the young Anakin ghost as him being restored to his he Dark Side state, but I, having to heal psychologically from my wartime experiences, see the older Anakin ghost as him redeeming himself by moving forward (because, as much as we might wish to, there is no going back to yesterday).
@Caseytify
@Caseytify 2 жыл бұрын
Or you can say that the Force ghost reflects the age of when the Jedi died. Hence we see an old Obi-wan and old Yoda. The (original) old Anakin ghost was what Luke's father would have looked like, absent his transformation into Vader. You can separate those who have seen the prequels from those who have not. As waterbeauty85 pointed out, in the original release we saw Sebastian Cabot as the force ghost. In later releases Lucas changed that to Anakin. The old-timers see Anakin and ask WTF is that!? On the other hand, those like yourself who watched 1,2, & 3 before 4,5, & 6 would see the original cut and ask who the old guy was.
@waterbeauty85

@@Caseytify That reminds me of an old movie (can't remember the title, but I think it starred Sir Cedric Hardwicke) in which an old man died, and his ghost had to help the main characters before he could get into heaven. His father's ghost was sent to help him do this, and because his father died at a much younger age, his ghost looked a lot younger.

The real reason Palpatine wanted to turn Luke was he needed a pure source to corrupt. Vader/Anakin was/is basically damaged goods. Yes, he's powerful, but he's restricted by his injuries and the fact he has to live in that suit.
@xbeaker
@xbeaker 2 жыл бұрын
Not according to the lore. Palpatine intentionally put Anakin in a suit that was barely enough to keep him alive on purpose. He knows that at full strength Vader would be stronger than Palpatine, so by restricting his speed and breathing with the armor he keeps him in check. It is shown that Palpatine has access to better technology, and could almost fully restore Vader if he wanted to, and Vader knows it. It is one of the reasons Vader wants Luke to join him, so he can overthrow Palpatine and the two of them can take over the empire.

Idk if anyone dropped this but your love of Qui-Gon and feels for him as a fatherly figure are well justified. He was supposed to be. The reason the fight between him and Maul is called the duel of fates is bc Anakins fate depended on the outcome. Obi was more of a brother for Ani. If Qui-Gon had lived and been the one to train Anakin, he would have been the loving father figure he needed. There would have been no room or need in Anakin that made space for Palpatine to groom him for the dark side. With Qui-Gon, there is no Vader. Wild.

Yeah in the original story Luke Skywalker is the chosen one. He is the one that they've been waiting for and this is before the prequels. This was in the expanded universe books and in the original graphic novelization of return of the Jedi and original Star wars just like an original Star wars. Ob1 is actually the brother of Owen Lars Luke's uncle. That's why he brought him to tatooine because his family was there and he knew no one would know where. Luke was a lot of changes that they made in the prequels that didn't fit just like in the original story Anakin Skywalker when Obi-Wan first meets him. He's actually an adult and he's a y-wing pilot. That's why in the original deleted scenes for the original Star wars. Red leader comes over to Luke Skywalker and says I met your father once when I was a boy. And if you remember red leader is older so you could separate the age right there. And also in the original story Obi-Wan, like he said in the original movies he took it upon himself to train him as a Jedi. I thought I could train him as well as Yoda did me. I was wrong. What that means is in the original novelization was Obi-Wan train Anakin in the garage. That's what happened and it didn't go well because he didn't know what he was doing and that's why he feels responsible for Luke and that's the original timeline and story for the original trilogy before the prequels and the other films and they try to change things around

On the 1st special edition DVD release of the original trilogy sometime in the late 90's I believe, Lucas says on the director commentary that the title 'Return of the Jedi' is not a reference to Luke becoming a Jedi. Instead it is a reference to Anakin's return to the light side. Originally it was titled 'Revenge of the Jedi" but revenge was thought of as an action unfitting with the Jedi.

Jedi training time: From the Prequels, it generally takes one's entire youth. Jabba dead: Of course he is. That's the whole set-up of the "Boba Fett" series. Luke being shot in the hand: Remember when he got the hand in TESB that they conducted reflex tests. Luke learning Leia is his sister: "But she's still hot in a metal bikini!" Leia remembering her mother was "beautiful": How? Padme died giving birth to her. Leia's "always known" about them being siblings: So she laid a liplock on her brother. ( I know.) Anakin/Vader's feelings for Luke and Leia: Think to Prequels. Anakin was far more concerned about Padme than he was the kids. He wanted to save Padme, but never gave an uttered thought as to whether the child(ren) she was carrying would be okay. It was only at the end that he had any real feelings for Luke. The little bears (Ewoks) fighting: They are smart and make the most of what they have. Contrast to the Gungans, who are dumb and make silly use of the tech they somehow have. Given a choice, a military commander would take a platoon of Ewoks over a platoon of Gungans anyday. Just have the Ewoks pick up blaster rifles (as a few did here).

It's interesting to see a reaction from someone who has only seen the prequels. Since you were more invested in Anakin than viewers who saw the OT first, it made his redemption more impactful. There's a sense of finality to this film. Absolutely every loose end was wrapped up. At this point, Lucas had begun to be burned out on Star Wars. He began to resent how it consumed his life. Though he originally said there would be 12 episodes, then 9 episodes, he seemed to be finished after this one. People were actually surprised when he announced the Prequels. The advent of CGI seemed to jumpstart his interest. But I think there were years that he felt he was finished with Star Wars films after ROTJ. One interesting fact was that both Harrison Ford and scriptwriter Lawrence Kasdan wanted to kill off Han Solo. Lucas didn't approve of that idea.

Awesome video! The part with Luke and Anakin at the end having a father son moment are a great parallel and play a huge role in the feelings that I got on the final scene of The Mandalorian chapter 16. When you think of how compassionate Luke is, it makes perfect sense that he would show up to save this father and son.

So, Luke even realizes without the mask, he'll die. If we listen, we can hear the actor say this. Listening further, we can hear that Vader then says, "nothing can stop that now". You've seen the prequels, so you should know, the man is completely without natural limbs (Dooku cut off one arm and Kenobi took out the other) and horribly burn-damaged inside and out. The Emperor's use of lightning utterly dominated Vader as a threat against him, and Vader once might have matched Palpatine's skills, and eventually surpassed them greatly, but now, he barely kept pace with him. Anakin is a tragedy on many layers, but one of them is physically. As either a Sith or a Jedi, his power would have dwarfed anyone.....but, with the loss of limbs, intentionally handicapped suit, and burns....he was a fraction of what he was or could ever be.

I recently found an analysis done about the ewoks. Regardless of their technological level to do the catapults and traps and such, the raw physical power it would have taken to set them up in such short order points to those little fuzzy buggers being built like wolverines... pure and thick muscle. Remember, 6 of them slowed down an AT-ST! How many people do you think it would take to slow down an armored truck? And when you think about it, that makes their effect against the stormtrooper armor a lot more understandable as well.
@sixstanger00
@sixstanger00 2 жыл бұрын
It's pretty plausible that the Ewoks would be masters at building primitive weapons and/or structures, given how their tree houses and interconnecting catwalks are built. During the Luke/Leia scene on the catwalk, you can see that the rails, structuring, floor posts, etc are all connected together with ties/vines. More to the point though is their lifestyle; they hunt, trap, and cook meals, they build fires, use torches, construct hand weapons, etc and overall have adapted to survive in the dense forests of Endor. Given their small size, they are probably preyed upon by countless other beasts in the forests (hence their shelters built high in the trees). Ultimately, despite their technological deficiencies relative to the Empire, they had the "home field advantage" as it were. No amount of military training for combat in forests could hope to match skills of natives who have lived and survived for thousand of years there, and know every inch of the terrain. Not that I'm disagreeing with you, but the Ewoks slowing down the AT-ST isn't exactly analogous to slowing down a armored truck; the latter would be harder to slow down since it moves on wheels, whereas the chicken walker moves on "stilts," placing one in front of the other. Additionally, there's the issue of center of gravity -- an AT-ST is extremely top-heavy (i.e, the bulk of it's weight is high above the ground), making them very easy to unbalance and/or tip over. An armored truck has it's weight more evenly distributed outward. While the precarious design of the AT-ST may seem like a major weakness (and to be fair, it is), they were probably designed this way so as to give the operators a clear view of the battlefield in front of them. Endor wasn't really the ideal place for them to be in combat, as they're meant to be used on open battlefields where they can stride quickly performing melee charges. (Hoth, for example). Unlike an armored truck - which is always in contact with the ground, the walker lifts each leg off the ground during movement, minimizing resistance and thus the motor need only be strong enough to actuate the *_leg,_* not move the weight of the entire walker. Having 8 Ewoks dragging along on one leg introduces an extra 720+ lbs that have to be pulled - far exceeding what the walker leg was designed to move.

@@sixstanger00 Okay.... while I basically agree with you, I still kinda need to answer in long form. First off, I wasn't saying that I didn't think that they had the engineering skills and experience to do it, I was specifically removing it from the conversation... I didn't want someone to get sidetracked saying "they couldn't even do it!". I was looking at the physical force that would be needed to build them in a relatively short period even knowing how to do it. I know you are not saying that those traps were already made to hunt with. There are ones that clearly were just put together to deal with the AT-ST's. On the second point... they absolutely had more forestry skill and awareness of the surroundings. There is a reason why local guides and advisors remain a part of military tradition to this day. I was never claiming otherwise, only pointing out to people that stormtrooper armor may be more effective against physical strikes than it appears from them being taken down by ewok clubs. Something rated to resist human strength is different than something rated to resist wookie strength, and ewoks may well be closer too the wookie than human side of things. (And I know that Rogue One showed they were not that good against physical, but that is a much more recent movie operating off of the assumption they were already useless) The third point... I completely agree with. I went with the armored car since it is aprox the same weight. The example I was originally going to use was "how many people do you think it would take to slow down a robot arm in a factory", but it felt like there would be too much explaining needed with different sizes and safety devices designed to stop them after encountering resistance (though not before potentially causing injury or death). even that isn't great since it is stable and bolted to the ground. However, I will somewhat dispute that they are meant for open terrain. It is commonly accepted that a walker advanced enough to be used in combat would be the vehicle of choice for rougher ground or places where it is difficult to maneuver. If all you wanted was something that was good in the open you would go with a wheeled or repulsor vehicle. More stable (as you already pointed out), easier to armor, lower profile, and in all likelyhood faster. Of course, until we have walkers that advanced, we will never know if that is true or not.
@sixstanger00
@sixstanger00 2 жыл бұрын
@@RedKytten *_If all you wanted was something that was good in the open you would go with a wheeled or repulsor vehicle._* On the contrary, a wheeled vehicle might not be able to traverse all types of terrain, whereas a walker could. Like AT-ATs, they are "All Terrain" walkers. For example, suppose you were in an open battlefield with rocky slopes, hills, canyons, etc? A wheeled vehicle can't step over crevasses, or step over rocks/boulders, or scale a steep slope. An AT-ST could definitely cover terrains that would stop a wheeled vehicle in it's tracks. *_I know you are not saying that those traps were already made to hunt with._* No, I'm not. I was mainly suggesting that given their nature, Ewoks probably developed thick muscles out of necessity, thus making construction of such devices relatively easy. *_ It is commonly accepted that a walker advanced enough to be used in combat would be the vehicle of choice for rougher ground or places where it is difficult to maneuver._* That's just it though - overall, AT-STs were *_not_* that advanced; they were scout transports, intended for either reconnaissance, perimeter patrol, or in times of combat, used as flanks for larger armored vehicles such as AT-ATs. My point is, combat is not their primary function. They were only deployed on Endor because the Empire anticipated a small strike team of Rebels; not an army of furry primitives causing chaos, confusion, and general havoc. The Empire didn't anticipate a battle on the surface, thus only scout walkers and speeder bikes were used.

It was great fun to watch your reaction to the OT movies since you grew up with the PT. I grew up as a kid with the OT as I was 8 when a New Hope came out in 1977. I think the thing that is most remarkable about Return of the Jedi is you have a "Good vs. Evil" story but evil is not vanquished by force, evil is vanquished by compassion. And that's the ultimate message of Star Wars, and The Force; it's a fundamentally spiritual message that compassion, and kindness, and love, are the most important attributes in life and what is truly good. Luke was willing to lay down his life in sacrifice because he had too much compassion to kill his father and he knew that his father had compassion for him. And THAT is what saves the galaxy.

27:59 I've always interpreted the scene as it's actually Lando that Han is having trouble parting with. They do go way back and had a genuine friendship, even though they both knew they could only trust eachother up to a certain point (in the cut-throat world of smuggling and what have you). Then Lando betrays Han horribly in TESB, and while arguably it was his only option at the time, Lando feels ashamed about it and spends the rest of TESB and also ROTJ - and whatever he did in between the two movies, going under cover as a guard in Jabba's palace etc - to redeem himself. With that context, I feel this scene is about Han acknowledging and accepting Lando's redemption, he's absolutely forgiven Lando for his betrayal, and he's desperate for Lando to make it out alive. But you know, boys being boys (and I am one of them) he can't just say THAT, so he makes it out to be concern for his ship ....

From the opening scene of leadership and the destroyer shooting at it Jaws wide open. For the next hour and a half completely blown away. Never seen anything like this in my life. So the next day we stood in line for cigars to watch it again. On to my point. I've watched a lot of reactions of people watching Star wars for the first time and it brings me so much joy to see a younger generation experience this. I was 10, 13, and 15 for these first three movies and it is consumed my life for nearly 50 years. And to see the joy and the experience love you and others literally takes me back. Welcome to the universe you are a Star wars girl. There is so much more in this universe to explore and it does nothing but get better. Next on your list should be rogue one. Then the mandalorian the book above fett. The sequels are okay take them for what they are but they're still cool. If you really want to dive deep you need to watch the animated series The clone wars, which fills in a serious timeline between episode 2 and episode 3 introduces so many more characters and storylines. Then after that the animated series Star wars rebels. Which also fills in more timelines and reduces so many more amazing characters. I really enjoyed watching you react to this. Seriously, really did it was a lot of fun. And again welcome to the universe. ❤️💚☘️🇺🇦

Conflicted and in denial that there is still good in him because of all the evil he had done for the last 20+ years. That Luke literally appearing into his life made him feel something he hadn't felt since before Luke and Leia's births. Love. In his mind, he killed Anakin Skywalker because Anakin Skywalker was a good man who loved his friends and his wife. He didn't want to believe that the Emperor was only using him for his own personal gain until a "newer model" would come around. Luke showed that no matter how many evil things he did, his son still loves him and wants to save him when he didn't believe he was worth saving. "It's too late for me son."

All three original trilogy films begin with a shot of a Star Destroyer. Anakin did fulfill the prophecy of bringing balance to the Force,but not In the way people thought. Anakin’s life is all about balance: for 23 years he was a good guy, and for 23 years he was evil, he was a Jedi and a Sith, he destroyed the Jedi Order and he destroyed the Sith ( by killing Palpatine and himself), he had twin children: a boy and a girl. Those little Tribal space teddybears as you called them are called ' Ewoks ' They in fact made i believe two movies with them in too. The story in a way tells us that not all endings are happy. Although it did end up happy even though you wanted Vadar to live in the end. There was some foreshadowing to Luke becoming like Vadar because of his hand. Vadar chopped off Lukes hand which was replaced with a robot on, later wearing a glove over it. When the Emporer told Luke that he could replace his father by his side, Luke looks at his robot hand realising that his anger was starting to take him in the same direction as his father. It a great story about the fight between good and evil and how we can all become that way if we give into our negative emotions such as anger, hate, jealousy, and even loss! These things lead to the dark side, they lead to a life of self-destruction if not balance by our good feelings.

I wasn't born when the the 1st film came out and ultimately too young to watch 4,5,6 in the movies. I saw them on vhs when I was 9 or 10. Luke was our hero and those that saw the originals were young at the time probably teenagers. By the time prequels came along they were older and lost their child like wonder and didn't give the prequels a chance. I didn't like them as much as the originals but I did like Darth mauls introduction as a menacing character and seeing Yoda and the Jedi in 2 and 3. Probably because they make them feel warm feelings of when they had their own teddies, and their insecurities about emotion shine through. The Ewoks are awesome. You should also know that the Ewok with the most screen time is Wicket. Wicket interacts with Leia when she crashes the speeder. Wicket is played by a young Warwick Davis. Warwick Davis appears through Episode 1 in various uncostumed roles. He sits next to Watto at the pod race, for example. He played the Rodian friend of Anakin. Leia was pulling on Jabba's chain with her whole body--really put her back into it, along with both legs and both arms, of course. Jabba was big, but man, she was really motivated to kill that guy!

Han Solo is a monster movie from the POV of the villains; Jabba's ego brings this dangerous thing into the palace -- Han Solo -- and what happens? It gets loose and kills everybody. I bet a lot of Jabba's henchmen muttered about the danger of bringing Solo in as a piece of furniture. Maybe even his higher-ups or even Fett himself warned him against it. Solo is dangerous. He blows things up everywhere he goes, and, you want to place him in the heart of the palace? It's like the mad scientist who brings the alien corpse into the lab . . . because he's sure it's perfectly safe.

Luke actually does use the Force to defeat the rancor by making his throw so accurate. That was also how he hit the precise spot on the original Death Star with his proton torpedoes when earlier attempts by others using their targeting computers had all completely failed. Obi-Wan reminded him to use the Force, and Luke listened and switched off his targeting computer.

The large beast Luke defeats in Jabba's palace is called a rancor. They're extremely strong, tough and loyal to masters that treat them well. The Hutts (Jabba's people) particularly prize rancors for their fearsomeness - and, like Jabba, they're one of the few species that are very force-resistant. That's why Luke's powerful Force abilities didn't work on Jabba's pet.

Your reaction was lovely. The tedybears name are Ewoks, and were some of the most hated creatures of the SW canon before Jar Jar Binks.

Ewoks being hated on started around the mid '90s, that is more than decade after _Return Of The Jedi_ . It was also around the mid '90s that Empire turned more popular than Return. 😉

Your reaction to this film made me like it even more, Anakin's story is so sad and tragic, but at least he was saved from the dark side and he can be one with the force.

I love that the moment Luke says Vader was once Anakin, Vader no longer is fully in control of his emotions. He quickly turns around and says that name no longer has any meaning to him, and then he later makes a comment that it's too late for him. Vader always had that little piece of good left. It's funny, in a way. He asked Padme and Luke to do the same thing: overthrow the Emperor and rule with him. In the end, Anakin got rid of the Emperor and saved the galaxy from the Sith we all know he blames for everything going wrong.
