When Luke looked at his hand and saw that his father’s hand (that he cut off) was also mechanical, he realised just how much like his father he had already become. This was foreshadowed in Empire Strikes Back when the shadow Vader’s helmet split, revealing Luke’s face inside.

Fun fact, my dad used to live in California near where the scenes with Jabba's barge were filmed, so when he and his friends went out in the desert and made campfires, they were burning the pieces of wood used in the barge set that were just scattered around.

I realized just within the last couple years that Luke actually got through to Vader on that bridge before he took him to the emperor. When the emperor tells Luke to strike him down and turn to the dark side, he was confident Vader would step in, but Vader actually stepped in to save Luke from turning and giving into his hate when he blocked Luke's first strike after getting his lightsaber back. There was some conflict still between Anakin/Vader internally, but the emperor couldn't tell because he was so focused on turning Luke to have a truly strong apprentice, what Vader SHOULD have been if not for the "more machine" part of him diminishing his force abilities. It wasn't until he saw Luke being killed that Anakin fully returned and rid himself of Vader, redeeming himself and coming back to the light side.

You seemed a little confused at the start about Boba Fett. He is the silent guy in green with the jetpack, then fell in to the Sarlacc. He was one of the bounty hunters that were hired to find the Millenium Falcon in Ep. V, and followed them to Bespin. He was pretty intimidating then, but in this movie they had him go down like a punk. Doesn't do him justice once you see the expanded lore.

Deleted from episode 4 were the scenes of Luke taking his girlfriend Cindy Williams to a sock hop. Luke, Han Solo, and other friends were 'farting around' Tosche Station. Flash forwards show one of his friends gets abducted by an Asogian flying saucer. Another friend is revealed to have died as a door gunner at the Death Star. [All the movies are connected behind the picture frames.]

My recommendation for the order next: Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3, Rouge One (effectively episode 3.9, right before Episode 4). Then it's up to you if you want to see the modern Star Wars movies, people are very divided on them. But the Solo spin-off is decent, and The Mandalorian is superb!

As you may recall, Vader's suit is what had kept him alive after his injuries in Revenge of the Sith. So when he threw the Emperor over the railing, it was subjected to Force Lightning that shorted out critical life support systems. Which is why he died afterward, and why Vader said "Nothing can stop that now." He knew that would happen when he did it.

I would also count all the damage Luke did, as well as the _injures_ he inflicted on him. And, there is something else.... Perhaps Vader didn't want to go on living anymore. Had he lived, he would have fallen back into the pull of the Dark Side. Like a drug addict, he would not be able to resist it for very long, and certainly not for the rest of his life. 😢

She was raised as royalty while he was raised as a farmer. So that also contributes. When we first met Luke, he was a whiney kid. He's grown a lot in the last two episodes.

I recommend watching the prequels, it explains why Anakin turned to the dark side. He regretted everything but after turning, he was trapped and had nothing else but the empire he helped create until his son showed up and saved him.

There's a lot of expanded Universe lore on this, but when Vader commented "The Emperor is not as Forgiving as I am." He meant it. Vader, while extremely unreasonable in the movies, and just sort of generally, really only punishes those who fail him, and even then only after a MAJOR fuck-up or a few instances. The Emperor is the kind of dude to torture and kill you and your whole family for having an irritating tone with him. And arguably worse, whereas Vader does it out of some misguided sort of tyrannical idea of order and discipline, the Emperor will do it and just enjoy it.

I forget the name of the actor who played Anakin originally when this movie came out in 1983. Before Lucas got all special edition crazy they had the original actor lined up with Yoda and Obi-Wan at the end. It was changed to Hayden Christensen after the prequels to match the actor from those movies and they had him fade in rather than him being there already. At first I wasn't sure if I liked that but I came to realize it was a good change

People have complained about the Ewoks, but George Lucas used them as a plot device to show the maturity and progression in Luke. Remember Luke's reaction when he first met Yoda? But Luke's demeanor is completely different by the time he first encounters the Ewoks. It shows that Luke wouldn't be making the same mistake twice.

What I found interesting was that you didn't recognize Boba Fett. He was the bounty hunter from the second movie who was told 'no disintegrations', and who was given Han to turn over to Jabba. "What happens if he dies? He's worth a lot to me." Whereupon Vader promised to compensate him if Han died. As for how he kept it to himself... yeah, telling her in front of a massive crowd something _that personal_ just seems like something... you wouldn't wanna do. Imagine how it would sound. "Hey everyone, I'm back and by the way I'm the brother of this Princess." ... Nope... nope, _not_ the right time. And _after_ that it seems like they just didn't get some free time to talk alone until... well... they did. "...I don't know if you're adorable or dangerous... two things can be true..." This. Very much this! "...we still have more movies..." The next three are prequels... and they're not _horrible,_ but not as good... and led to the 'enhanced edition' of Star Wars that you're watching... which was a mistake. The additions add a _few_ nice touches but _mostly_ make the movies _worse._ Then there's the _sequels..._ which are... hot garbage. They are an insult to intelligence and the main character is a total Mary Sue (basically she can just 'do things' as the plot demands, no need to actually _train_ or _learn_ to do it, no back story to explain it, etc).

In normal circumstances, you’re 100% right. Given the Emperor’s plans, this is probably more like they want to draw the Rebels in. An entire legion of their best troops awaited the rebel party. This is similar to Tarkin and Vader only sending 4 TIEs after the Falcon, to make it look like they escaped with a fight rather than too easily.

George Lucas was toying with a few ideas before thinking that he may not get to finish more movies after this. Here's what he thought of but never came to be: 1.)Lando dies while blowing up the Death Star 2.)Luke, at the helm of his father's death, gets angry and becomes a Sith 3.)Luke's twin sister is NOT Leia, but another woman somewhere across the galaxy. We spend the next 2 movies about HER journey. 4.)SHE fights Luke in the last Episode (9) and brings him back from the Dark Side...or possibly has to kill him (Lucas wasnt sure). What a world-class "Might have been."

I didn’t forget about my promise to reveal my most favorite line of all the movies I ever watched in my entire life … it is in the episode you’ve just reacted to … it is “I am a Jedi, like my father before me”. I haven’t seen one single girls who does not love R2-D2 and the Ewoks … it almost became a hobby of mine to see reactions when someone first time sees them. If you decide to continue this journey, in the next trilogy (episodes 1, 2 and 3) you’ll learn about Vader’s story. Like I said - just follow the story itself and all your questions will be answered. They literally eat people alive if not cooked. In lore during the battle in this movie. They ripped the armor off some Stormtroopers to eat them alive.

40:03 That's a common misunderstanding, but no, the Dark side and Force, are not a direct analogy for Yin and Yang. The Force is a macrocosm-microcosm analogy. The basic concept is that the Galaxy is a giant super-organism, made-up of millions of worlds, populated by trillions of lifeforms, and those lifeforms themselves host millions of simpler lifeforms in the form of their microbiome, making them effectively miniature galaxies. The Force is an energy field that's generated by, and connects all of these lifeforms. In this sense Balance of the Force means all of those beings living and multiplying in mutual harmony. The Dark side is the selfishness inherent in all of those beings, and those who listen to it cause the imbalance, because they want more, and take more, and it's never enough, and they'll trample over anything and anyone, until they get everything for themselves. It's a tumour that takes without giving, until it kills the host, and with it, kills itself. Jedi serve the Balance, to make the Galaxy a better place, while the Sith (Vader and the Emperor) are using the Dark side to make themselves stronger at the expense of everyone else.
