It was changed in cannon. While in Exile, Kenobi modifies the lightsaber our of boredom. He made it thicker, added an extra grip and the bubble strip to make it easier for luke to turn it on. Luke later modified it again to be closer to how it used to be

The button design is specific for each movie the saber appears in. Let me explain. The ROTS button design is specific for the Revenge of the Sith and ANH is the design seen in A New Hope and ESB is the design for Empire Strikes Back. Only the ROTS design is the only design used by Anakin. My guess is the button was damaged during the dual on Mustafar so Obi-Wan changed it prior to giving it to Luke. The ANH design was used only by Luke where the ESB design was used by both Luke and Rey. I hope this clears up the button style confusion for you.

9:44 Yes, that activation button is 100% screen accurate. Luke took off the safety bubble button that Obi Wan had placed and instead, changed it to a circuit board piece to resemble the original circuit board button his father had used. This change can be seen in The Empire Strikes Back.

Regarding the title of the saber, I’ve come up with a solution; no character names. The original prop used during filming of ANH was a piece of a camera called a Graflex. It was the hilt of a separate flash bulb used in old cameras. So personally, I just call that particular saber “The Graflex”.

Yeah the reason the activation button is different is because of the fact that it is (unfortunately) the Rey version of the saber. Obviously Disney would make her version to sell because it is after all in the movies they made. Quite unfortunate, since it is, and always will be Anakins lightsaber. I wish they based it off of the Episode 3 hilt.

Honestly I'll always think of it as Luke's lightsaber first and foremost, but it makes most sense to categorise it as Anakin's since both Luke and Rey have their own distinctive lightsabers later on.

The canon activation switch for the Anikan hilt is the large red button atop the saber as well as a black button also atop Darth Vader's saber. Even you mentioned that, in your Obi Wan padawan video, the activation buton was the large red button , again, atop Obi Wan's hilt. For complete screen accuracy I wish Disney would have kept all lightsaber activation buttons true to where they were located in the movies.

The original activation switch from the "original" movies was the activation strip from the clamp on the side of the saber. you can clearly see this in ANH when Luke first holds the Saber in Kenobi's cave. The first time we see this Saber activated by the red button is when Finn uses it in TFA. And I sighed out loud when I saw it. Clearly the film makers did not enjoy the geek side of Saber as I do 🤓

Funny about the little missing piece which you mentioned. I had the exact same part fall off of mine during my time at the park, and had it replaced before I left. It seems like these hilts have a lot of little details simply glued onto them, which honestly is a shame considering the premium cost associated with them.

This is definitely the "Rey" Saber, as it is a hybrid between the ANH saber and ESB saber. The Anakin variant was very different as it was a machined prop with different dimensions more attuned to dueling with a thinner hilt, flatter grips etc.. The ANH and ESB saber props were built off an early photographic flashgun by a company called Graflex, with the reflector removed. the ANH saber had a bubble activator strip (taken from an old calculator) and the grips were solid. The ESB saber had three notable differences, the Grips had a rivet toward the rear of the saber ( probably because the original grips were becoming loose during filming) the activation strip changed from the bubbles to a circuit board strip, and the bottom "glass eye" near the emitter was replaced with another "red button" from another flashgun (Probably used hide whatever was used to secure the blade in the hilt better). This Saber has the ESB grips and Activation strip, but has the Original ANH glass eye at on the underside. Not sure why they changed it back. Probably the prop guys werent as Geeky as us Lightsaber fanboys.

I personally call this saber the Skywalker Saber, but technically, the design is unique to Rey. The only difference between the hilt's appearance in ESB and TFA is that the T-track grips are a bit shorter. So technically this hilt design belongs to Rey. No saying the saber itself does, though.

This is accurate to version seen in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. The switch is the same as the ESB version but the main differences are on that version there are two red buttons, one replaced the glass eye but Disney reverted that for whatever reason. The second major difference in the ESB version they removed the beer tap on that back with the red button, but again Disney added it back for the sequel trilogy.

The reason your Force Fx saber's rubber parts are sticky is because it went through whats called Rubber Reversion. Which means the rubber will, over time, break down back into its latex like state. It happens a lot in old cell phones too.

The button change is a result of the original prop getting lost between A new hope and empire strikes back. So that version of the lightsaber that is why the button changed, and that is why it looks different. As for the "Anakin" version of the saber for the clone wars/prequels I don't know why it changed.

Because in mine, I can clearly see the espace between the lights (leds?) And that was something that I find weird... - second, the very tip of the blade when the blade its on doesn't march with the rest. The light doesn't reach at the very top

the lightsaber in the video is not Anakin Skywalker’s. The activation switch is not Anakin’s and his does not have a D Ring. This is the saber Luke used in ESB or Rey in TFA.

Well looks nice but you get what u pay for. I built my own not cheap. 200 for hilt 150 for electronics 80 built my own neo blade and 30 for just a chassis. But it's very very close to the movies cfx! So cool Smooth swing!
