AnytimeTown, ultra violet light is past x-ray on the electromagnetic spectrum so that means it is dangerous to the humans body. Unless you want health problems that’s a bad idea. Think of this, the sun shoots ultraviolet light rays at us and we get sunburns because of that and skin cancer if the rays are close and have not travelled far. Since you would hold the light saber with ultraviolet light you would get sunburn and skin cancer fairly quickly. It may look cool, but it will lead to serious health problems. The IV light would need to be very low and not powerful to not cause problems but prolonged exposure to even low power IV light will start problems.

It’s only partly true when he says they’re selling it only with a holocron. I spoke with a cast member and I’ve been to galaxy’s edge about 10-15 times now and they’ve said that since they’re pulling crystals from Savi’s they require a holocron to be bought so that there’s a case for it. However when they get more in stock they’re going to sell it the way it was sold before so just on a shelf and can be bought separately from a holocron.

I much appreciate the updated review and news about the black crystal.. I was very much hoping to secure one, just one, for my own collection. Sad that scalpers have ruined the experience for real fans. Hopefully things will settle down next year when I am planning to visit. I have a friendly "bounty" out on a black crystal to some friends who may be visiting sooner. Maybe I'll get lucky.

I think the Kyber crystals are sold out and the “trick” did clog up the stores. So until they get a new supply, they’ll sell the crystals with the holocrons. There are different “characters” per crystal so if they want people to buy more crystals, they’ll have to sell the crystals the old fashioned way.

I was able to buy a red crystal at Doc Ondar's just a week ago. They're kept behind the counter. The cast member put several on the counter from which I chose. There's no way to choose a black crystal, and I got red.

I just left galaxies edge, they do sell them individually but now, inside the kyber crystal case there is a black paper in there that doesn’t allow the light to shine through it. Bought one red and got lucky! Got a black one

I would LOVE to see you or someone hold a few Kyber Crystals together precisely side-by-side because, I'm very curious as to how the lightsabers are able to detect the blade's color type when turned on. I used to be a Toy Designer and I have a theory of how this works: Since the crystals are "pinched" between the "clamps" inside the core, I suspect that each crystal is sculpted slightly different at the pointed tips (meaning length). But, it is unnoticeable at first glance. Each length registers how far the plate is being pushed down when clamping the crystal thus, identifying what color to emit. There's no way for the crystal itself to be emitting the LED light color (especially for a black Kyber Crystal to be emitting red light). Of course, this is just my theory. :) But, it would be really interesting to me to find out how this is working. I suspect the Holocrons work in a similar fashion.

There's an rfid chip inside the crystal. The chip is encoded with what color. The inner saber scans the chip.

It will be interesting when someone digs into the design. If the RFID's are only "keys" to signal the saber chassis or holocron the proper the color, sounds, voices then it's just a number. It appears there should be two versions of each color with the two different possibilities of voice in the holocron people have talked of in other videos. A RFID chip reader should be able to find out those numbers. Then if something could be made to selectively transmit those numbers all possibilities would be available to the owners without all the extra "crystal" purchases. Alternately, someone could dig into the boards and figure out a way to unlock everything in the programming. Also, there is the legacy sabers to dig into. The same blades are used so the blades can do more colors than the lone color a legacy allows. There may be a way to force those legacies to be other colors to suit the owners. No it isn't cannon but it is what some seem to want in the comments. Where there is a will there is a way. Darth Ratatouille wouldn't like it one bit but the rebellion/resistance is all about defying the empire/first order. LOL

That's basically what I was thinking should be possible if someone like yourself had a scanner for it. Then scanning the numbers of a few may give you an idea of all the numbers. I'm still assuming it is just an ID type number being read as a key. They may just have a sequential block of numbers used which once known could be faked in some other way. Ideally a selectable way to easily scroll through the voices in the holocrons and colors in the sabers at will. You should make a video if your successful in figuring their system out. Should be a fun interesting experiment.

I was just at Galaxy's Edge at Disney World and they weren't behind the counters and you did NOT have to buy a holocron to purchase the kyber crystals. Based on date of the video upload this is most likely a DIsneyland only policy.

Honestly? This is such an unnecessary frustration, especially at $13 an item, not to mention the wasted time in the area trying to get in get it - when I get there I'll get a red crystal for the saber and if you can buy other crystals, avoid the red one on the shelf entirely. Isn’t the Dark Saber a light side saber? I don’t get why the black crystal is an alternate red rather than an alternate blue, green or purple. (Purple would make the most sense cause they can only give purple Mace Windu lines; it doesn’t have any alternate). Anyway Snoke is lame and never had a lightsaber of ANY color. They should have given the black crystal Vader lines if they were insistent on making it a dark side crystal. Honestly I find this disappointing and underwhelming, especially since it doesn’t even change the blade color to black. Not worth the collectors fortune it’s selling for.
