I’m watching all of your videos in non chronological order to get through my IA painting queue and it’s amazing how you have improved over the years!

That is a nice droid. the warm lights and cool shadows makes for a good way to add interest to a silver model.

Hello again Mr S, and thanks once more for an inspiring painting tutorial. I resigned this figure to my "give 'em away" pile, but after watching this video, I'll be having a go at it myself, as you breathed life into a truly dull, static figure figure with your light and shadow technique. I found the molding/detail somewhat less than the usual standard on this model, but now see that it can be revived by a decent paint job into something worth putting in my collection :-) Every one of you tutorials inspires me to push beyond my boundaries, and the results always amaze me :-D The music is getting better each time, too, and makes the whole video a sublime pleasure to experience. Thanks again for all your hard work, and for bringing all your viewers so much further along with their painting skills as a result. All the best Paul

Thanks so much Paul! I'm glad you like the music because I'm releasing an album later this month across all the usual platforms (Spotify, iTunes etc.) for my viewers to enjoy whilst painting or gaming! :)

I'm normally not a fan of "forced lighting" on figures, but this is absolutely beautiful.

Thank you Drew! It just seemed like the best way of adding interest to an otherwise somewhat monochrome figure :)

Congrats on 40k subs, you make pretty great tutorials, my first finished model came out under the guideness of your video, and it is Fire Giant. Mine is not as great looking as yours, still I love it. Thanks a lot. Keep up helping us understand tricks and tecnics)

Thanks a lot Дарт Д! Wow - that was brave starting with the fire giant! :)

Well, I've started like 30 mimiatures before, this one is the first to be considered done. Got myself into iron painter competition, had to work on a miniature from top to bottom in 2 weeks. and, yes, i caught myself thinking that it was too ambitious of a project for basicly a newby like 5 times a day, every day, but you know how easy it seems on video))) It was my first double primer to suggest light, first wet blending, first OSL (witch was a theme of a round), spent around 40 hours, didn't do great of a job, but still proud)

+Дарт Д Absolutely! I think a lot of people would be suprised by what they can achieve if they just go for it like that. I'm constantly trying new techniques to move my own painting forward too 😀

Have you considered applying a gloss varnish before applying any washes? Will reduce the tinting and really force the wash into the crevices
@Sorastro7 жыл бұрын
Hi John-Paul! That's a great idea! For MHD-19 I actually wanted the shade to darken most of the bodywork, but it's something I'd like to try on my next stormtrooper :)
@john-paullaflamme18257 жыл бұрын
Of course, only if you don't want to shade the base colours so much.
@YTSEJAMYLOHNU7 жыл бұрын
Gloss varnish and then Nuln oil gloss is great as it tints the surface even less.
@ryanc32017 жыл бұрын
I would love a video that details this process to see how to do it effectively!
@Fissi0nChips7 жыл бұрын
Rowol it’s really very simple. Apply gloss varnish to the area you want to wash, let it dry and then apply the wash. There should be less staining and the wash really goes into the crevices aggressively. Matt varnish when done at whatever stage you prefer.

Fabulous ! What kind of brushes do you use? And how do you care for them?

If I want a more yellowish tone should I consider using mid tone yellow or more of a beigeish color? Talking about the orange light effect
@Sorastro7 жыл бұрын
Hi Bruno! Hmm.. for a yellow OSL effect you could try firstly highlighting up to pure white, then glaze some thinned yellow on top. This should really allow the yellow to pop! :)
@beckerage7 жыл бұрын
Hi! Your videos are fantastic. I do have a question. i notice your area is always very well lit. I struggle with this quite a bit. Do you have multiple sources of light or a light source close to your painting area or next to you?
@Sorastro7 жыл бұрын
Thank you beckerage! I'm currently using a single massive light with a large reflector positioned above and slightly behind me which pretty much turns the whole room into bright daylight! This is overkill if you're just painting of course but it does help for filming and photographing the minis :)
@carlobamberg90576 жыл бұрын
I never did wet-blending, but took a look at some videos on the net and now I see you kinda use it on this mini and also on the Gloomhaven Brute. Why do you use the Vallejo Glaze Medium, and not the Drying Retarder?
@Sorastro6 жыл бұрын
Good question Carlo! I just find the retarder medium to be a little thick and "gloopy" whereas the Glaze Medium a little thinner and easier to work with :)

Hey Mark Amazing work, as usual! Just wondering... how did you learn to put these colors together to make these interesting base colors?
@Sorastro7 жыл бұрын
Hi Breno - Thank you! I was really inspired by the character art for this droid so I picked colours that I felt best captured that look :)
@bpronka7 жыл бұрын
I sometimes find it very hard to kind of pick the colors that would best replicate the look and feel of a certain character art. I was wondering if this is something that came to you with only time and practice or there was some studying done to back up the hands on practice.

Ive been following your tutorials from the beginning, always amazing. What is the biggest "oops/blooper" you have made while painting a mini?
@Sorastro7 жыл бұрын
Thanks bud! Hmm I remember when filming the Chewbacca episode I went in to paint the eyes and - I don't quite know how it happened - but I just rammed the brush with white paint into his face! Luckily I was able to rinse it off quickly before it stated to dry, but some colourful words were spoken I can tell you :)

what is the difference between citadel glaze and those inks?
@Sorastro7 жыл бұрын
Hi Rodrigo! The inks are even more concentrated than the glazes, and have more of a glossy finish :)

Man, that sculpt is awful. Did that come from the same game even? I know Imperial Assault doesn't have the best models, but that droid is just beyond awful. No details, everything looks half assed, and nothing interesting in the sculpt.
