I actually like both games. It’s a bit of double edged sword with them being in Disney canon but they actually seem to be the only ones able to actually do something with it that isn’t just garbage. And they actually seem to care about what they are writing unlike so much of the shell that is star wars now.

Sam Maggot only played the game once (she didn't even replay it in preparation of writing the book). She did an interview with Starwars explained and she said she did extra research (I put the term loosely) because she referenced the memes like the pink poncho while mis-characterizing Cal say he stabs people in the head and he enjoys it (something her editor told isn't true but she didn't listen) the devs ensured that Cal didn't kill in Cutscenes. His victories in the last game are because Cal "cheated" to beat the 2nd sister even through she didn't have a problem with killing going so far as to blind him, and use probe droids. Cal won that fight she was not conflicted. Then she states Cal is still a padawan even though he was knighted by Cere before the final mission. Either way the battle scars is barely mentioned even the loss of his arms stated as Greez's accident in a flashback. Haven't played jedi survivor yet I'll pick it up yet due to the crappy launch. The high republic stuff is redundant especially Dagan.

Here’s my hot take for this game. I actually like that they played into both the hidden path and the high republic now don’t give me wrong. The actual Canon versions of those eras and movements are really dumb, but I can totally see some thing existing like the hidden path in Star Wars after order 66 to help Jedi as there would be probably Jedi sympathizers out there most definitely in the high republic as an idea is very interesting. The novels are absolutely horrible but the idea of reading adventures of the Jedi during their I guess. Best era is what you wanna call. It is pretty cool. In my opinion, Disney, Star Wars it’s just the epitome of good ideas with horrible execution.

1:09:54 that excavator droid appears to be an imperial derivative of the CIS submarine/ship hybrid from Filoni's TCW, specifically in the battle of Kamino and Mon Calamari episodes. It appears to be a Quarren design given that it was similar in aesthetic and colour to the Quarren designs from CW 2003 and other legends sources. One interesting thing Disney Canon is doing is building off some established legends things and having the Imperial military and Empire in general take inspiration from both the Republic and CIS in terms of technology. Rather than just reusing it though, the Empire does change the designs somewhat, both in terms of modernisation and also makes them look more 'imperial', which fits with the lore about the snobbery of core world republic culture which the empire inherited. Sadly Filoni doesn't give a shit about making the Empire more interesting, so I am glad Fallen Order and Survivor have done so well.

Good review, I really liked this game. Even it has optimization problems on PC, I found it not be not as problem in my experience. Something I do want to mention, that in your gameplay you encounter enemies such as DT-sentry droids much earlier because of new game plus, which allows to encounter enemies that would be encountered later on to appear early. The sentry droid makes it appearance in the of the half of saving Brother Armias Chapter. Since I played on Jedi Knight difficulty, I found the sentry droids to be difficult especially one in Armias mission 3 or 4 jumptoopers, I died a lot times with that specific sentry droid and it was most I was frustrated with the game. Something I do like about these Sentry droids is that they are 3 variations of them. One is a blaster arm cannon and a electrostaff, it’s most common you can encounter. The other is the heavy variation, equipped with a rocket launcher and the purge trooper axe and you can push back the rocket to the sentry droid for free damage as long you time it correctly. And the final one is a pure melee variation with both the electrostaff and purge trooper axe, in my opinion this variation is the easiest because you don’t have worry about ranged attacks. This game certainly treated this droid much better than its debut in Rebels, which does extends to the treatment of the Empire in general. I am surprised you didn’t mention the Magna guards, if there is an award to the most fun enemy to fight, it would be these guys. However the Bedlam Raider Lieutenants (The ones with lightsabers would be a close seconds). Perhaps this because you are playing story mode and not experiencing the thrill and appreciation of these guys. Speaking of higher difficulties, I had a much challenging time with Rayvis and Dagan’s Second and Final fight, I died more than 5 times for each of them. This is because bosses and most enemies have higher health and deal more damage on higher difficulties, which requires you to be patient in these fights. However, I managed to beat Bode without dying though I did have max health and all 12 stims at that point. I personally didn’t like Bode’s portrayal at first, but after thinking about it made sense. I am eager to replay this game with mods, currently I am waiting on Sith customization mod that I commissioned to finish.

I have mixed feelings. On one hand, gameplay and level design are good, the lightsaber stances are a nice addition (I still would have preferred the 7 lightsaber forms, like Ghost of Tsushima), the general story is fine. But the villains just drag it down so badly for me. Dagan Gera is a whiny edgelord who won't shut up about "Muh Tanalorr" and it's yet another piece of anti-Jedi dribble via the Woke Republic. And I just groan outloud everytime I see Bode, even from the trailer my first feeling was "Yep, he's a turncoat". And they played it the most generic way by having doing it for "muh family", all over this damn forsaken planet in a literal death trap. In a way, Bode sounds like EU Quinlan Vos gone bad after Order 66 : a Jedi Sentinel who worked in the intelligence, narrowly escaped the purge, has wife and a child. Except Quin never wavered....and his story never had a continuation during the Dark Times.

Fallen order certainly had a better story, villains (Trilla and Malicos) and level design. I'm not a fan of the community building (Greez's cantina) and open world elements like side quests I prefer the quick and concise structure of Jedi fallen order. But Cal saw the most development due to the events in the narrative. Being a plus in my opinion and though the villains especially dagan sucked his moveset makes for engaging bossfight same goes for Bode. Rayvis was the most interesting character wise even though he wasn't as fleshed out as I'd liked. And unlike Filoni they a more than willing to let their characters (Cere) die instead resorting time travel plots.

Wish I had the time to talk about this gam, but man this is just mediocre at best. on all levels except maybe the music and graphics. I mean compare it to the following: Story: kotor2 wins Characters: Kotor 2 wins Star Wars lore: Kotor 2 wins Innovation: Kotor 2 wins Gameplay: Jedi academy wins The story just shows up, randomly and does the same thing with Ahsoka. It avoids a new hope and what’s and any explanation of how or why we never heard of Cal. The characters are bizarre like Cal at the end of the game doesn’t try to give the final boss a chance considering he was doing that for his daughter he just goes after him for vengeance I understand why but what is Csap’s belief? Is he a Jedi? A sith? A Gray or dark Jedi? They avoid talking about the force or the Jedi’s teachings similary to many Disney Star Wars projects which indicates that they’re not really interested in that. Even just basic believes like gray morale and pragmatism? Like remember Kreia’s thoughts on codes and how they weaken its believers? Or Jode bintu when he defended the idea of love and how the Jedi are wrong about it? Also the waifu witch is just a walking plot whole? Like how does her powers work? And how come no one told her hey you’re strong enough to take on palpatine and Vader I mean the chick can just teleport? That’s enough. The gameplay feels limited and linear unlike a game like Jedi academy I mean my favorite example is from the intro of the game where you have to to do all that stupid puzzling to climb on run on walls. Did the devs not see the phantom menace when Obi wan jumped really high like 10 feet in the air? It felt so stupid watch cal jumping around while his bounty hunter buddy could’ve easily just carry him and fly around with him. It just belittling to the power of the Jedi all that wall tuning and rope grappling Like I said average at best same goes for Jedi fallen order

Good review man. I do have to agree with Dagan’s character tho. While him and Santari make the woke republic more interesting, that still wasn’t enough to make me wanna read the books. Because I already know what they’re like. But I digress, his character wasn’t horrible, he was a decent enough villain, but yeah he felt too generic and shallow. His motivations weren’t well executed. Because all he kept talking about was Tanalorr. Which is fine, but he felt like he was missing something to his character. He was very one dimensional. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but with a character like him, I think we should’ve gotten more of him. Because he was marketed as this main villain of the story, but got very little screen time. Even tho he was technically thrown in the game as a test for cal. And both him and Dagan are a mirror of each other. They both have their obsessions. Cal wants to keep fighting the empire while Dagan just wants to reach Tanalorr to complete his mission. The only difference is that Cal’s motives were well established and caused him to almost fall to the dark side. Dagan’s motives were too basic and didn’t really add anything to his character. But it didn’t ruin his character nor did he ruin the story. He was still a good addition, just wished there was more to him, because something felt missing.
