The thing I loved about that was when she gets stabbed. She, in that moment, lost the light. Once she maimed him, as a Jedi, she should've waited for him to either surrender or force further conflict. Instead, she chases the conflict by attacking him, leaving an opening of vulnerability. In that moment, she lost the protection of the light and entered the dark and paid the price. Honestly phenomenal writing if that was intended.
@bunnyconcubus84686 ай бұрын
I don't think it works that way though, light side uses positive emotions and mind set and follows a non aggression while dark side is using less moral, the less morals and more intense you are in your ways the more dark side you become. If only ANY of the Kylo vs. Rey fights had even half this much thought put into the choreography, maybe there would at least be something redeemable about the sequels other than the visuals and soundtrack. The force premonition showing what looks like defeat, technically being accurate but leaving out the most crucial detail of how it truly ends was great and is a much more 4-6 faithful use of the force than ANYTHING it's been used for since Disney took over. THIS is what the Kylo/Rey dynamic could have been like, instead I was just bored anytime they were on screen together and wondering when they would kiss each other the whole time. It's a 7 minute video with a generic mother fighting for her daughter plot, acting is basic as there is so little to act in the scene, stunt work is debatable as they have no stunts happening, cinematography, production design and directing just is not better than disney star wars, you'd have to be a special kind of bias or stupid to genuinely think that. The only thing this does better is some of the choreography, but that only beats Rey, Kylo and all other disney era characters or duels all feature decent to amazing choreography, the Acolyte being the peak so far, which is unfortunate as it didn't get it's second season. All in all, this short is cool, but not something that blows the real stuff out the water. Not like S38 does when compared to the fencing for elderly we got in A new hope.

@J. E. M Sequels? When did this happen and why wasn't I told? :D I know what the OP was referring to. But let's face it, the duels in the sequels barely qualified to use the word. My God. Stumbled on this and what a goddamn work of cinema. There are so many things that make this good. Your shoot location, the color grading, the really subtle lens flares. When the sith shows up and we first see him the in reflection of the water. I think what makes this so much more effective and captivating than other lightsaber shorts I've seen is from the very beginning, each moment of the fight is advancing the story telling around this character. She kneels in the beginning to be more one with the force, to dispel the fear she feels. Also, the choreography isn't just people bashing sabers together. There are a ton of little story beats in each bit. She's trying to break his staff, he's trying to use the force to throw her off balance. Also, there are real stakes. The emotional center of this piece is her son. We as the audience don't want to see him see her die. Fucking incredible work, not just from a cinematography perspective, but from a storytelling perspective as well.

Very good. Story within the duel was very well thought out and very well shot. My one critque (and this is coming from someone who has practiced a two man fighting form), is that there were a few moments were one was waiting for the other's attack. One thing that sells a fight is that each blow is struck with the intent of hurting the other. One of the points of choreography is that the opponant knows where the attack will land and knows how to deal with it. The mindset should be, if you get hurt with an attack you know is coming in, it's your fault.

I echo that sentiment wholeheartedly...to this day, the 'Grayson' fanmade trailer is memorable as one of the most impactful DC trailers to date (came out maybe 2002-05 can't recall lol). Everything about this was efficient, emotional, and amazingly well-done. The choice of location didn’t shift dramatically like with movie scenes, and the choreography and physicality of the duel- both combatants using elbows, kicks, punches and the Force as direct attacks- was far better than anything flashy visuals or massive set pieces could have brought. Also, the pike-saber is cool as hell. 10/10!

Firstly, love this so much! The Lightsaber Pike is criminally underutilized elsewhere so I loved seeing it here, and I adored the choreography. By far my favorite move was the Sith's opener, using the force to pull the lightsaber down and break her guard is extremally clever and makes it makes so much sense (it's a surprise attack that could end the fight before it even gets started), and I love seeing them fight with more than just the lightsaber (because in a fight you do anything you can to win, not just swing your laser sword around like they do in the movies cause "oh shiny"). One constructive note though (from someone who isn't any sort of authority) I felt like she could have easily slid her lightsaber blade along the pike and slice his fingers off to disarm him. All in all, very well done.

I feel like they didn't have her do that for two reasons: 1. The fight needs to be longer than 1 minute. 2. It's not a very jedi-like thing to do. That said, the jedi are known to be hypocrits...

Getting passed a pike's blade is not as easy as just sliding down it as there are a number of guards a pikeman (real word, I swear) can use to prevent this. It doesn't help that a sword would be at a disadvantage due to the pike having superior range. That said, should a swordsman find themselves able to slip passed a pike's guard, they absolutely should take advantage of it. If I was to criticize the fight choreography at all, it would be that the guy should have kept fighting with the pole arm after the woman chopped off the blade since it was clearly made of some material (probably beskar) that can withstand a lightsaber. That, however, would just be a small critique of what is otherwise a solid and very creative lightsaber duel. I liked it a lot.

Head cannon is that it immediately cautorizes the wound upon exiting. Survival entirely depends where your stuck so to speak. Your intestines can take alot of damage compared to your lungs, heart, liver, etc. We know this from ballistics. So pure heat gone in partially, and not wiggled around or slashed from inside can be an optimal outcome. Albeit any contact from a lightsaberblade can be deadly and IRL "lightsaber" plasma weapons are scary dangerous to the point you wouldn't even duel with them and if you did you would kill/maim with every cheap shot you can imagine easily. Be thankful star wars lore dictates Honor and trained styles fighting with minimal fuckery mid fight. Otherwise starwars would be a hasty gorefest.
@Vigilante88415 ай бұрын
@@fallunlight9724 My head canon is that lightsabers don't actually project heat very far beyond the width of the blade itself, and in that scene where Qui-gon is melting the blast doors with his 'saber, he's using the Force to spread the heat through the metal. This helps me to rationalize cauterization vs complete vaporization of internal organs.

@adambrown66692 ай бұрын
Is it though? The duel was cool but does not beat the duels from the Acolyte, it barely surpasses the sequel duels. The characters have very little actual compelling qualities, all we know is that the Jedi is protecting her child, which immediately is a concern for why a Jedi, a member of a group famous for prohibiting attachments, has clearly made atleast two of them. And then we have discount kylo with the granted very cool beskar pike lightsaber, assuming that was beskar as it did not seem to hold up like beskar does, he has no discernable motivation or reason for pursuing the woman. All in all it's a cool little fan duel, but over embellishments on it's quality are silly, but of course everybody loves to try to find any reason to crap on Disney these days.
