The reason why Thrawn is so loved even if he's aligned with the Empire is that he never does evil for evil. He's an all-round character, risen literally from zero, extremely smart, loyal with friends and lethal with enemies. He's one of those characters born and largely explored in the "SW legends stuff" (the novels & comics before Disney took over) and brought back in the canon afterwards by fanbase acclamation. I think he's portrayed very well in Rebels, you'll see 😊

Thrawn isn't evil. He's just very intelligent and understands that being on the side of the Empire allows his people to be left alone. Though I think he does lack empathy or at least his empathy is restricted to him and whoever is close to him.

@@michaelpapp5518 That's your opinion. What makes someone evil is perspective and you and I have different ideas of what evil is. While I don't necessarily disagree with you I do feel it's essential to have empathy in order to have a good moral compass but, again, that's just my opinion.

Thrawn is one of the most beloved character of the saga. Btw his character is actually quite old since he was introduced in the early 90’s if i’m right (that means before the prequels!)

I like how you notice Ezra’s heightened aggression. While there was nothing he could do, he once again feels blame for what happened to the prisoner Terba. However this time, it’s coming externally which is only feeding into those fears that everyone blames him for what happened on Malachor, especially by Kanan who has been distant. While he could normally shrug this off, he is being influenced by the holocron instead of Kanan. It’s truly terrible timing because Kanan is also dealing with his own issues. You can tell he has also been isolating himself by the way Hera approaches him. Even at his worst he would always talk to her, but even she is getting the cold shoulder. Ezra is pushing his leadership so hard because so far he’s seen that by using more power he is achieving success.

It's aggression born of frustration. Ezra lacks self confidence and that makes him impatient which is also frustrating... It's a bad combination here. What he did to that ATST driver was DEFINITELY Darkside material.😳

Thanks for uploading! Season 3 really picks up as the dynamics of the crew and the Empire become more complex. The first 2 seasons start paying off well as the characters get put in new roles and situations and developed further - one of the strengths of a series over a film. This will be fun, cheers!

Thanks to The sith holocron combining his jedi Training from Kanan... making him the ultimate gray jedi. Not even Sidious had that holocron! Knowledge is power

Thrawn is a genius. A real strategist. He hasn't lost a single strategic battle. He is passionate about his opponents, their military, culture and even art, so he knows literally everything about them. This is the type of genius who blocked the Coursant without a fleet (now legends I guess). What about Bendu? He is Force neutral. He doesn't care about dark and light, he's more than that. However, here you can see a big minus of Bendu. Obsession with balance led him to a life alone so that he would not be susceptible to any emotions. In addition, he slept for years until Kanan's suffering woke him up. In my opinion, this is the way to maintain balance, but it is not correct

To emphasize how important Grand Admiral Thrawn is and how much of a threat he is, just imagine Palpatine as the core pillar holding up the Empire. There are three core support pillars that can each hold it if he were to fall. One is Vader, the other Tarkin, and the third is Thrawn. Out of those three the biggest threat would be Thrawn. Vader is mainly an enforcer and not great at leading through governance and inspiring loyalty from officials. Tarkin is too rigid and uncompromising, being unable to use fear well on both allies and enemies. Thrawn however is a master of analyzing the Empire and his enemies to find the best strategies to achieve his goals. He draws a great balance of fear and respect which is what the other two lack.

Darkside Ezra is TERRIFYING. As people commented about the quality jump from season 1 to 2, as well as the raising of the stakes, so to is there a jump here. And you see it the moment Ezra enters that trooper's mind. Ezra here I think is close to 16(as opposed to being 14/15 from season 1 to the end of season 2) Dave wanted to show a time skip to illustrate how Ezra has gotten more powerful and grown up in this fight

A good season premiere. If you notice, there are practically zero nonhumans in the Imperial Navy. The Empire is known to have somewhat of a prejudice against aliens. That shows just how good Thrawn must be at what he does to have risen to the rank of Grand Admiral. (He's sort of like if Sherlock Holmes worked for the Empire)

Thrawn is the best strategist the empire can offer an one of the few who knows Vader's deepest secret, his identity. He learns to understand his enemies by their art, culture and history. For example, the nightbrothers. The attack first, ask questions never brutes of Dathomir. He uses small engagements and sometimes let's his prey escape in order to complete the bigger picture. He is playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers
