Honestly even though it was more obvious that Ryder wouldn't betray the rebels, he seemed more and more convincing as time went on. It took the last moment to confirm it was a way of luring Pryce in.

@@andrewcundill3660 basically Pryce's family used to own a mining company and when they found a rare ore he attempted to take over the company in order to keep it out of imperial hands. When Pryce refused he framed her mother and said he would keep her until he got the mine. Pryce gave the mine over to the empire in order to get her mother released. He was basically trying to resist the empire but he was also a pretty bad person overall. Time in prison seemed to have changed him though.

According to the Thrawn novel, Ryder was already being removed from his position as governor before Pryce requested that position. She didn't even know until her meeting with Tarken about the position that Ryder was about to be removed. Ryder hadn't seen or heard from Pryce in years. So how can Pryce claim she's the reason he lost his power when her request merely came right after it was already lost?

And in that novel, we learn early on the reason why Pryce dislikes him. While he was governor, he was stealing from her father's mining business, even forcing it to go out of business and he had her mother arrested on trumped up charges of embezzlement. This is a personal matter for her.

Also I believe Ryder was doing what he was doing to her family to keep them from selling more valuable resources to the Empire. He never liked those guys.
