There have been many great Star Wars video games over the years but one that has become somewhat forgotten is Star Wars Republic Commando. A tactical fps inspired by games like Rainbow Six where you lead a squad of elite Clone Commandos and carry out secret missions during The Clone Wars. You could consider the game a sort of precursor to Star Wars The Batch Batch. Now after years of only being available on the xbox and pc this proto Bad Batch has now been re-released for modern consoles giving more Star Wars fans the chance to play this Lucasarts classic.

It's a shame. The easily could have improved some of the jankier aspects of the first game and really had something pretty special. Story wise seeing Delta Squad turn into Imperial Commandos would have been fascinating.

The Clone aspect of the Clone Wars is something that never fails to fascinate me. Now if only I had a Star Wars game that replicated the Mace Windu vs Droids fight from the original Clone Wars cartoon (bare-handed droid destruction!). With this game being on sort of the tactical side have you ever thought about covering SWAT 4? That game had a similar ping system where you could have your squad breach and clear, cover areas, or arrest people. That game is maaaad fun although it requires patience. Also P.S the ACP Array gun aka the shotgun that you wield on RC is actually a sideways SPAS-12, continuing the franchise tradition of turning WW2 and other famous guns into sci-fi weapons.

Swat 4 was awesome! It's been years since I've played it but I remember having a ton of fun with that one. I'd happily cover it one of these days.

Also did you know the AI tactics in this game are based on actual SWAT tactics

Idk why but one thing that always stuck with me was the melee in this game, the hidden blade was so cool.

Bro, the squad mechanisms/tactics are fantastic in this game. Such a high ceiling for flow with sequencing and button combo-ing during the rest of the, also awesome, gameplay.

I miss mature tactical single player focused FPS games like this. Definitely deserved a sequel, but alas it was not meant to be. It appears the closest upcoming game similar to Republic Commando is Six Days In Fallujah which makes even opening doors terrifying. Also, Gmanlives found another game inspired by FEAR/John Woo FPS action called, Severed Steel.

@KIRK COLLECTS, It looks good but also rough and more arcadey focused than Trepang2. The lack of an ammo counter is odd and not being able to duel wield weapons is not John Woo at all.

Im currently playing through it again on PS5 and the sound design is absolutely fantastic! The graphics have aged very well

Such a basic port for a game that deserved better. At its price point I wouldn't expect them to do much about the visuals, but surely they should've at least fixed the UI to display correctly in a widescreen resolution. That old 4:3 UI stretched to fit widescreen screams of cheapness. I guess I should be happy you can at least fix this on PC through mods.

This game's great. It's just begging for a co-op mode. If there is ever another one like it it really should have a co-op option.

I personally haven't played it but from everything I've seen of it (comparisons and let's plays) they're pretty much the same. If anything the Steam version is a little better with mouse and keyboard controls and the ability to mod it.

I really REALLY like Jedi Fallen Order, and I'm happy that battlefront 2 (2017) dug itself out of it's own grave, but I gotta say my favorite is Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga. I grew up on it, and replaying it has helped me cope during some really hard times.

Nice! I personally never got into the Lego games but I have mad respect for them. Fallen Order was great too, I'm really looking forward to the sequel for that. For me I think KOTOR will always be #1 but Jedi Knight 2 is a close second.

I can't remember why, but I just spent the opening levels of this game trying to kill everything with melee as a kid. Think I was being a dumb kid who refused to use ammo, or something. Or I was trying to see if the UI could be covered completely with blood.

The game is pretty solid overall but it has some super frustrating moments. Like the scabs, anytime the game throw an enemy with a stream of energy attacks, I would get super pissed. Its a janky game overall, but it can be enjoyable.

I played this on Xbox back in the day and thought it was... pretty good, but not great. The visuals are very high quality for the platform and have aged fairly well, but the shooting feels weak and lacks impact. The squad mechanics are a neat idea and add a smidge of depth to the pew-pew gunplay, but the game is obviously begging for co-op, which puts this game in that frustrating "so close" category for me. It's decent enough... good, even... but could it have been truly amazing with just a little more work and a co-op feature.

I think the bad batch looks pretty bad and not at all in the spirit of republic commando at all. That goofy 3d artstyle just does not work one bit for what they're going for. And they're clearly doing the "badasses dont wear helmets" thing which is probably my most hated trope ever in all forms of media. It just takes me out of it completely. What a shame.

I can't believe you lumped Dark Forces 2 in with this game. I can't stand Republic Commando while DF2:JK was great. I never got to the "click" part like you because I stopped playing mid-way through the second mission. I agree with all of your criticisms and yet those were deal-killers for me while they weren't as much for you. Instead of feeling like a soldier, I felt like someone strapped a Nerf gun onto R2D2 and sent him out into a gray and brown world. I gave it 2 shots: I tried to play on "Normal" and it felt like the squad mechanics were gimmicky and pointless (why tell one to kill something when I can do it myself immediately), while "Hard" was a slog of bullet spongy enemies with my Nerf gun.

It's not a very amazing game but still, it's cool....... keeping in mind that it's made in 3 days by a youtuber Dani(check him out) personally I enjoyed it a lot it's gameplay is only of about 30-40mins or maybe less but I would surely recommend it... also thinking about downloading some new fast paced games any games you could recommend that could run on a potato pc

I genuinely don't understand why everybody Stans this game so hard. Yes, the music and SFX are really well done, but every time I've played it the AI have been nothing but trash and I always had to do everything myself. There's no learning curve, just memorizing enemy spawns and jump scares, and "Shoot it till it dies" type enemies, which is definitively the worst, laziest game design.

Squad commands, good use of your variety of grenades (EMPs against supers/droidekas for instance), and sniper headshots go a long way in having a good experience in this game.
