But you still have to wonder. Can a person really be redeemed, if a person who dreams of being all good and wanting to free slaves turned evil to help enslave trillions throughout the galaxy? Much blood, death, and suffering became to be from the Sith master's apprentice. Should the audience forgive so easily knowing that... forgive, forget, hit replay..

The look on the dad’s face… I know he’s just like me, he watched so many of these scenes hundreds of times as a kid. And the joy in his eyes getting to show it to his own son, it’s all over his face. Interesting note: In Jabba's Palace, there was an extra song added, which means they needed to use the dancing green Twi'lek woman again. However, over ten had passed. So, they went and found the original dancing girl who still danced! She was still in shape and she got to play the added scenes, so it's very hard to tell the original and added dance scenes. "[Femi] Taylor portrayed the slave dancer Oola in Return of the Jedi, the last film of the original trilogy. She reprised the part fourteen years later, filming new scenes for the 1997 Special Edition release, and was the only performer from the original to do so." (quote taken from wikipedia.)

I first saw this film when I was your son's age, and to this day Vader's death scene still make me mist up a little. When he grabbed the Emperor and threw him over the ledge rather than see his son die, it was the greatest thing I'd ever seen in film. By the way, there may only be one Wedge, but there were three different actors who played him...the guy sitting next to Luke during the briefing before the first Death Star battle is actually a different guy than the one seen in the X-Wing cockpit during the battle, and then they were both dubbed by a third guy who never played Wedge on-screen-you may have noticed that he has an American accent in the first film, but a British accent in the next two. He's also the uncle of Ewan MacGregor, who plays Obi-Wan in episodes I-III. These films are what made me want to be a director myself (still working on that). Love seeing how much they still have the power to move audiences.

Hi guys. Please go: Rebels, then Mandalorian. The Guy who made The Clone Wars Dave Filoni, also made Rebels and helped make The Mandalorian. No spoilers. Just trust us. ❤ Also you should watch Clone Wars cartoon, it is excellent. Not so much for character development as "The Clone Wars" TV show but for action. (Mini spoiler - Mace Vindu fights a field of Super Battle Droids) I wont go on, wait, how about you and Lewis watch it together after watching Episode I & Episode II movies. The first part of the cartoon takes place immediately after Attack of The Clones, when Anakin's hair is still short and he has the braid. The sounds are awesome in this cartoon. Also it introduces Assage Ventress to the Star Wars audience. One of Kev's fave characters. Anyway, the first half of the cartoons are set between the end of Attack of The Clones and The Clone Wars TV Season 1. The second half are set just before episode III, thus after the TV series. 😀 The Mandalorian is the first ever live action Star Wars TV series and is set shortly after Return of The Jedi. No spoilers. There are 2 seasons, 8 eps each.

Lucas had nine movies planned total all the way back in 77. Or at least he was planning on nine, with the originals in the middle of the series.

LOVE the "padawan's" reactions to these first 3 films. It brings back memories of my own experience. Back in '83, when I saw this in the theater, I got one of the worst spoilers of my life. I walked into the wrong theater (it was playing on multiple screens), I rounded the corner and was hit with the sight of Vader laying on his funeral pyre. How can you unsee that?! Angry at myself, I was! Great vid, you guys! Now, on to the next set of films and then the Clone Wars "catch-up"! Looking forward to season 7 with the 2 of you.

It is so wholesome to see a new generation discover these movies for the first time. I was 10 years younger than your son is now when this one first came out. It was the first movie I ever saw in theaters. My two favorite moments, "I am a Jedi, like my father before me." Followed by Anakin's redemption when he picked up the Emperor and tossed him over the edge. A close third would be Princess Leia's slave outfit. It's basically the sexiest thing ever conceived of by human kind.

Pure joy watching a Father introduce his son to the Star Wars epic Saga. I have throughly enjoyed your reactions to these first three movies. Makes me so very happy. This is all I ever wanted to experience with my own Father. Sadly he never showed me much in my upbringing, nor did I get to know or learn or explore anything together. He provided for us but wasn’t there for everything else. 😔 I’ll cut the sad stuff and specifically say to you both: THANK YOU ♥️. Thank you for sharing this journey with us - super special ♥️.

Back in the "old days" when this first came out and there wasn't all this "canon" to rely on now, I remember a great debate as to whether or not Luke had turned to the "dark side" when he put the beat down on Vader. He clearly was using his anger and not his Jedi skills in the fight, and Yoda warned him that once he turned to the dark side, he wouldn't be able to turn back. We know now how that all works out, but it was great discussion at the time.

Its incredible how well the effects have aged. Some bits were added here and there since 1997, but like 99% of this was done almost 40 Years ago, entirely without CGI.

Early night again so although I didn't catch the premiere this was perfect to wake up to. Once again, too many magical moments watching Lewis' reactions but a favourite was the fact that he only took 3 films to develop that 'breath before the plunge' moment in between 'A long time....' and the Star Wars logo & fanfare drop. I have been watching these films in theatres since 1983 and still got the same chills, as well as a few tears, at the start of 'Rise of Skywalker' as despite being ultimately disappointed by the piece I was hyper aware of the fact that this would be the final time I would be hit with that presentation. Once again guys, a real pleasure and privilege to have shared this experience with you. Really looking forward to the weekend now (my first trip to the local IMAX since seeing 'The Batman') to catch Sam Raimi's 'Dr Strange & The MOM'

EDIT - with respect to the changes made for the 1997 Special Editions (the 3 cuts you lads watched) I don't mind it at all - 90 - 95% of the footage from the 3 films is what was shot and composited for the original releases and as Lewis has proven to all it has not dulled the overall effect in the slightest.

watching this for the first time when I was 13, my heart was in my mouth and up and down the whole time, particularly every time the emperor said that Luke was on the dark side, or that Vader was irredeemable.

Idk if this has been pointed out before so sorry if it has but a cool fun fact is that the actor who plays Wedge, Denis Lawson, is Ewan McGregor’s (who plays Obi Wan in the prequels) uncle!

Nice reactions, Lewis & Kev!👏🏽This trilogy will always be my favorite in the Star Wars series. I stood in line for hours to watch these films when they first came out on the big screen. Yes, there was a time when the multiplexes did not exist.😀

I appreciate all the Wedge-love on display! Wedge is awesome and the fact that nobody at Disney apparently got that is the underlying reason why the sequels, unfortunately, completely failed. Cheers, guys!

The Ewok ("pandas" Lewis kept calling them) that first met Leia was Warwick Davis. He was 12/13 when he played Wicket. What would Lewis think of playing a role in Star Wars?

Before Lucas went back and damaged the movie, Han's line when he rescued Lando was "Wait, I thought you were blind!" "It's all right. Trust me!" Also, the Force Ghost of Anakin at the end was the actor who played him when his helmet was off--which is correct, obviously, since Obi-Wan's ghost was also him as an old man not still in his prime.
