Star Wars: Rogue One Movie Reaction | First Time Watching!
Hey guys!!
So after watching the original star wars trilogy and prequel trilogy - I watched Rogue One!! I had no idea what it was about hopping into it, only that it took place before Star Wars Episode IV!! I was worried that since it was a newer film it wouldn't be that good but honestly.... IT WAS SO GOOD. One of my top 3 favorite Star Wars films I'd have to say. I didn't even resonate with the characters at first but by the end I was crying so LOL definitely done amazingly and really just a wonderful movie and addition to the Star Wars universe overall. I really REALLY enjoyed it and I'm so glad I watched it. Rogue One is SO GOOD and ties the beginning of episode IV together PERFECTLY. IT ALL FELL RIGHT INTO PLACE.
WHY HAVEN'T I WATCHED THESE SOOOOONERRRRRR THANK YOU GUY❤❤
It was a ton of fun to watch and I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did!!

9:53 I saw this in the cinema, the entire audience cracked up at that scene 😂 “Are you kidding me? They actually reshot the ending. Originally most of the cast lived. They showed it to the Disney executives and the executives asked is that really how they wanted to end the movie. The director told them, " Well, this is for Disney so we didn't think you would allow us to kill everyone. " The executives then went, "it's your vision, let's see it." Glad they did. It's so much better that it ended in mostly tragically. This is probably the best live action star wars movie.

I don't know if I would agree with that. One of the best stories, but it's a bit unfocused at times, and there's so many characters it's hard to develop them significantly. I would put it ahead of Return of the Jedi, possible even Empire Strikes Back, and definitely all the prequels and sequels.

@@STNeish In a New Hope They threw Darth Vader, Moff Tarkin, Princess Leigha, Obi Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and C-3po at you. This narrative that Rogue One had too many characters and didn't develop them is absolute shit. Unless you are old enough to have seen Star Wars in 1977 then you more than likely had all 3 original trilogy movies to watch fairly close together. You PERCEIVE all of those characters being more fleshed out in a New Hope because of having the whole trilogy. They were not any more fleshed out that Casian, or Krennic or Jyn. You just FEEL that they were.
@STNeish
@STNeish 2 жыл бұрын
You make a valid point, however, the characters in Rogue One still lack depth. In the 1977 film, Tarkin was a one note villain, and Vader was just muscle, albeit very COOL muscle. The heroes, in particular Luke, were far more fleshed out, and far more relatable, in the original film in 1977, in part due to the writing making them more immediately recognizable (eg. we got more of a sense of who Han Solo was because his dialog was much more direct than Cassian's was, for example). In Rogue One, we don't really learn much about Jin Urso, or any of the others, apart from their role in the mission at hand. I thought Cassian was the only one with a recognizable arc, but even that was handled very vaguely most times.

Something I love about the cinematography and Gareth Edwards’ directing is he often tries to position the camera from a believable point of view. Like most of the shots will be from down low at eye level, from inside a ship, from up on a balcony that’s in the scene, etc. It’s in his Godzilla movie too. Most of the action is scene from vehicles or from the windows of the very buildings the monsters smash up.

I saw a sound analysis of the ending hallway scene and it was really cool cause Vader's lightsaber ignition is actually tuned to a note that changes the chord that the orchestra plays to be a very dissonant Tri tone while still being in key. This creates an even bigger sense of anxiety and anticipation over what is going to happen. Then every time he swings his saber on beat with the music it is tuned to a harmonic note.

If you were to go back and watch the original three movies, they reference the "sacrifices" that it took to get the plans in rebel hands. They didn't kill these characters off because they weren't in the original story line. They all died because the original storyline described them all as dead and sacrificing to get the plans to the rebellion.
@Pip8448
@Pip8448 3 жыл бұрын
Right. I viewed this whole movie as that one line turned into a deep story. I knew it wasn't going to turn out well for the good guys. This didn't stop me from crying from their sacrifice. I also liked that you got a better look at the political issues within the rebellion and it kinda makes Luke's speech more believable to be followed later on because they just had a similar meeting in this movie which they didn't endorse and it cost them dearly. If they had agreed to work together with a plan of attack then maybe they could have turned out better and maybe all those people didn't have to die. (or lose so many ships)

Fun fact: Gareth Edwards tought that since Disney ran the show they wouldnt allow him to kill off all the "new" characters for this movie so he wrote a finale where they did (or most of them) survive.. when pitching the idea to Kathleen Kennedy she said "wait.. arent all those supose to die since we never see them anymore?" so she agreed with him and they changed to the "everyone dies" finale..

I fell asleep during the trench run of the second showing, and woke up as C3PO and R2 were talking at the beginning of the third showing, and forced myself to stay awake for the rest of the third. I didn't see it again until the next summer, at a matinee on Saturday. Still gave me goosebumps. Rogue One is a worthy continuation of Lucas' original...or prelude, as the case may be.

The actor Peter Cushing, who played Grand Moff Tarkin in the Original Trilogy, passed away in 1994 at the age of 81. For the movie "Rogue One", they used actor Guy Henry as the framework, then digitally recreated Peter Cushing's face on top. Basically they resurrected Peter Cushing as Grand Moff Tarkin using state of the art CGI. The scene at the end with Princess Leia (digital Carrie Fisher) used a similar technology to bring her back as a young Princess Leia.

Well, by then the clones were getting old. They had accelerated aging so the clones at the start of the war were biologically 20 years old and by Luke's time were at the age where most of them were militarily unfit. Also, having just one set of genes in the whole army was a vulnerability which was why the Empire stopped using cloned soldiers and brought in volunteers. Clone troopers were relatively expensive even if you included the cheaper variants that took only a year to grow to military age. The Republic was beginning to have problems funding the Kamino clone program (actually Palpatine didn't want to pay for more clones since he knew the war was about to end) and the Empire wanted to spend on other things like a massive fleet of ships and the Death Star and the infrastructure to support them.

Seeing Rogue One in movie in theaters when it first came out was amazing. I had seen the original triology in theaters when that was released, then the Prequels, this just topped it off. one thing i'd like to add, in the hallway scene when vader picks up a rebel and force chokes him by squeezing his fist. in every other scene in star wars of someone force choking someone else they always pinch their fingers, not their whole fist. that means that instead of just putting pressure on his throat, vader fully crushes that rebel trooper's windpipe. kinda brutal, but it's little touches like that that make this my favourite star wars movie

Having him and his sidekick present was a marketing tactic so the film could sell in the mainland Chinese market. Otherwise it would have bombed in China like the rest of the Prequel and Original Trilogy.

@@Ryan_Christopher one thing I'm sure is the original trilogy was never released in theaters officially. There aren't many foreign movies showed in China around 70s and 80s, and all foreign movies received theatrical release are produced in communist countries. So the "bombed original trilogy" really never happened.

@@feifeigxx Yes the Original Trilogy bombed, because they released them as the Special Editions after 1998. By then the Prequel Trilogy had already been seen and left a bad impression with the market. Imagine having Jar-Jar Binks in your introduction to the series instead of Luke Skywalker. There's an entire video of that here explaining how it went down in China. This is the reason Star Wars VII to IX are what they are: Too much flash but shit storyline. They were meant to cater to a newly-affluent Chinese Market who want their money's worth in action. Meanwhile the rest of us long-time fans were like, "WTF is this? The Finn, Poe, and Rey show?"

@@Ryan_Christopher The first time any star wars film released in theater in China is Nov 5th, 1999, the first movie in the prequel. The original trilogy never received a proper theatrical release in China, it only showed in some museums and science centers, including the special edition. I'm not saying your argument about appeal to Chinese market is wrong, I'm just saying the original trilogy never have a theatrical release in China, so it's pointless to say it's bombed. Prequel actually did ok in China, considering it only released in several(around 7 to 9) cities, and back to 2000 Chinese cinema is a small market. I'm a Chinese and grow up basically without any star wars film, until 2010 I arrived in the U.S., and I watched the franchise from episode I to VI, so I really don't need to imagine the whole jar jar binks thing. Star Wars doesn't hold nostalgic value to me, but that doesn't stop me from loving the original trilogy.

@@feifeigxx As a Chinese, what do you think the prospects of Rogue One would have been in Mainland China without Donnie and Wen in the cast? I know in Hong Kong it would have been fine, because they got Star Wars from the beginning like most of the world. As an Asian myself I feel the closest we ever got to any Asian Characters in the original trilogy was that alien who was Lando's co-pilot in the Falcon in ROTJ lol.

One super-satisfying thing about Krennic's death happens in the novelization. As he realizes that he's about to die, he tries consoling himself by thinking of how his creation will live on after him, and thinks about all the workings of it... and then he recalls that exhaust port that Galen Erso kept insisting on putting in. He dies cursing the name of Erso, realizing that a girl and her father just ensured his legacy wouldn't long outlive him.

I'm surprised @VKunia didn't even notice the Ghost just chilling out on Yavin 4 in one of the shots of the base. It's the best hidden easter egg in the movie because, at the time of Rogue One's release (2016), it confirmed that Disney was going to keep the animated Star Wars shows from Disney XD canon when they finished the sequel trilogy and moved on to other projects. Now we have characters like Ashoka Tano and Bo Katan Krees in live action.
