There’s something really uneasy about this planet in a strange Earth-based way. It feels so disconnected from the rest of the galaxy, and I can see why the more '80s, Earth-inspired American setting fits now. I remember when a few people were losing their minds over the trailers, calling it lazy and saying this planet and it's buildings looked too much like Earth. But after watching the first episode and hearing about what’s going on here, it’s starting to make sense. I’m also getting High Republic vibes. They never mention the New Republic, just referring to "The Republic." There’s a lot of gold and white, which reminded me of the design from the High Republic era. Plus, the kids seem to have so much insight into the Jedi and their lore, which would make sense on a New Republic planet, since they’d restore all the lost information about the Jedi that the Empire had banned. But it also makes sense that an isolated planet formed during the height of the Republic, cut off from the rest of the galaxy, would still have data about the Jedi, even with the rise of the Empire. So, does this mean these kids have no idea about the Clone Wars, the Fall of the Jedi and the Republic, or the rise and fall of the Empire, along with the formation of the New Republic?
@CaptainAmercia2 ай бұрын
You could also argue that the planet is meant to reflect Earth and the audience, like when we were kids, playing with our Star Wars toys and having lightsaber fights with our friends. Dreaming about discovering a crashed ship that takes us to a galaxy far, far away. Making the planet Earth would be too much, but having it simply reflect Earth during a certain time (the '80s), at the height of Star Wars fandom, is a better move.

That opening scene is _soooo_ New Hope…and it’s great. The obvious set up of squaring up to a firefight by boarding attackers from a single door, the invaders winning, a masked bad guy holding a nameless good guy by the throat, demanding to know something. The good guy bluffing (maybe) and the good guy saying if this is a ______ ship, _where is the_ ______ ?” It’s great. I even finished the question as I was watching it, knowing it wasn’t what he was gonna say. “If this is a bulk vessel, _where is the ambassador?”_ 😆 Fun start!

When I was in 3rd Grade, I wanted to dig a hole to hide in for hide and seek and I found a box of old anti aircraft ammunition from WW2. At least this was what my friend told me. I thought it was just old pipes and I tried to smack my shovel against it to break it and look inside. Fortunately I was too weak and when we told the teacher, they of course didn't believe us. When it came out that my friend was actually right, the explosive disposal service locked down the entire playground for two weeks until they were sure that they found everything. All the Kids were angry at me and my friend because they couldn't play there anymore...

I've been describing this series to my folks as "Goonies in Star Wars." When watching it, I both agreed that At Attin looked a little too suburban for Star Wars and recognized my younger self in the characters. I was that kid who had pretend lightsaber fights and read a lot of history and fantasy books. I also remember the animosity between boys and girls, especially the kind of girl who thinks she's so smart and can talk her way out of any situation. This show brought me back to childhood.

All this talk about childhood experiences led me to remember a few. I had a big state forest behind my house as a kid that I used to explore & play in all the time. Across the stone wall on my neighbor's side in the woods was a dilapidated frame of a small house or structure, couldn't tell you what it was originally. I used to hang out there all the time, it was my fort. Another time I took a neighbor friend and got lost wandering those woods farther than I had previously. It's boxed in by roads & neighborhoods on all four sides so we wound up coming out in someone's backyard probably 5 minutes away by car, but it took a few hours. I feel like kids today just don't get to experience things the way that my generation did, and it's kinda sad. Oh yeah. When we had huge snowstorms I'd take a bunch of my Hoth Star Wars figures, sets, and vehicles outside to play with them in the snow. The OG Kenner stuff. Those were the days man...
