biggest gripe of the last season they did the Ahsoka episodes when there was a whole series of episodes explaining mauls saber. Ventress gets a black market yellow saber falls in love with quinlan vos dies defending him and is buried on dathomir, Maul senses the death of his sister and travels back to dathomir, takes her saber bleeds it and makes his new double.

That's one of the most intimidating lines especially because this series has gone to EXTREME lengths to show how many things Maul has been singularly willing to struggle and survive through, and he is *_TERRIFIED_* of this.
@PierceArner
@PierceArner 3 жыл бұрын
@Rain A. While in general I agree with you about Episode 9, as all of J.J. Abrams' same issues that were present in *_Star Trek Into Darkness_* show up in that film as well, which had always been my primary concern about him directing it, I do have some exceptions because of this specific episode. I felt that Maul & Ahsoka here actually made Palpatine's presence in Episode 9 feel like less of an egregious issue. In this moment, Maul actually speaks totally honestly. He's the closest he's even been to acknowledging that he _deeply_ needs someone to help him, because he lacks the power to win on his own. Not just a pawn to use, but someone he cares for like he started to with his brother, Savage. It seems like there's a possibility that if Ahsoka had trusted Maul in that moment, that they might have stopped the Sith from taking over - solely because they were both outsiders that could have tipped the scales just at critical moments. Consider the conflict between Mace Windu, Palpatine, & Anakin. If Ahsoka shows up, she knows Anakin and he still trusts her even understanding why she left the order AND if she's with Maul, he also understands that sometimes you need to align with the bad guys to get something important - but Maul is unquestioningly truthful that Sidious will just use Anakin. What ruins that alliance is - fear. Ahsoka is afraid of being manipulated, is afraid of what Maul is saying, and that's a fear and regret that lasts for a long time - likely even into her choices in *_The Mandalorian_* as well. It's important that fear is what broke that, because like in *_Return of the Jedi_* it has to be replaced by a love that is strong enough to stand against that, which didn't exist between Maul & Ahsoka. As much as the circumstances could have been in their favor, Ahsoka's love for Anakin is never strong enough to turn him, which we see in _Twilight of the Apprentice_ and it's ONLY Luke's that is able to break that hold. Rey being connected to Palpatine, and Ben being connected to Anakin gives that part in Episode 9, which brings back that same alignment of light and dark that almost happened with Ahsoka & Maul. While both Palpatine's sudden return and Rey's heritage to him are parts of Episode 9 that I didn't at all enjoy, this actually gave me a lens through which I was able to find a way to appreciate that particular choice. (Even if for me personally, *_The Last Jedi_* still feels like an infinitely more satisfying ending to things). It was about ensuring that the love that almost existed between both sides wasn't lost and didn't turn back into a conflict, but that it was able to remain connected and keep the Force in balance.

I appreciated the discussion of Ahsoka's apparent willingness to agree with Maul, and especially Eric's explanation of why it was more of a means to ends to her, and not "I'm joining the dark side". To further support that, like Rick points out, this was a very classic Star Wars "Join Me" scene, but it had some very specific wording to it. Maul does use the language "join me" which has connotations of becoming one's apprentice. Yet Ahsoka pointedly responds with "I will *help* you", no 'joining' involved. So just more evidence to the point that she considers their goals aligned, not their values.
@Wolf6119
@Wolf6119 3 жыл бұрын
And I think it speaks just as much to Maul's fear, desperation, and openness of mind that comes as a result. At no point, for his part, does he imply that he wants Ahsoka to become his apprentice, or to embrace the Dark side, Hell he doesn't mention the Dark side at all. He genuinely just wants her help, in whatever capacity she's willing to give it, because he KNOWS how horrible Sidious is and what's coming for the galaxy is he gets his way. The fact that he doesn't say a single lie during the entire conversation just makes it all the more tragic.

I’ve always identified Ahsoka as a Gray Jedi. She can skirt the line between light and dark, but she is more light side oriented than anything else.
@wolfpack_104
@wolfpack_104 3 жыл бұрын
Not that I believed that Ahsoka would've joined the dark side, but had she teamed up with maul it could've been interesting to see just how far she would push herself beyond the Jedi code in order to save the galaxy. Makes me wish for an elseworld storyline, like Marvel's "What if..." series, where we see how those events would play out. I don't think Ahsoka could've redeemed Vader, but I believe she could've stopped Anakin from making his greatest mistake.
@TheTolister
@TheTolister 3 жыл бұрын
@@Wolf6119 I wouldn't say that Maul is affraid of Sidious, because of what Sidious might do to the galaxy. It's more about what would he do to him. After all, Maul is dark inside, even if he's not a Sith. He just wants Sidious out of the picture, because he would kill him, it's simple motivation.
@Nerveroxis
@Nerveroxis 3 жыл бұрын
Both Maul and Ahsoka view Sidious as the ultimate enemy, but want to see him defeated for different reasons. Maul still has very traditional Sith ideas of gaining power, while Ahsoka still has very traditional Jedi ideals of wanting peace. It is interesting because the timing means that if Maul and Ahsoka left for Coruscant they would arrive around the same time as Obi-Wan and Yoda. Imagine Ahsoka going with Obi-Wan to Mustafar, and Maul possibly facing a decision of fighting against Sidious with Yoda or joining Sidious again. Would be a great rewrite the saga moment since Maul killing Qui-Gon put Anakin on the path to becoming Vader. Duel of the Fates is named as such because it is deciding the fate of Anakin. If Qui-Gon lives then he becomes the father figure for Anakin instead of Palpatine and Anakin never becomes Vader. Fun to think about, but I think Maul would try to join Yoda then try to find a way to kill both him and Sidious.

Everything in this episode is so good - but Maul screaming in absolute helpless panic at the end of the episode communicates a level of sheer terror that nothing else in all of Star Wats has managed to match. Everything about Maul's arc has been focused on surviving the most brutal circumstances, and he's gone to the brink of madness and back, and knows what he's capable of, but _here_ in the moment we get a sense of JUST how terrifying Sidious is to someone who knows him better than anyone.

Yeah, in season 8, which would have included the Siege of Mandalore arc if we look at all of the unfinished story arc's production codes, probably would have aired from 2015 to 2016 and we would have kept guessing what would happen to Ahsoka, Maul and Rex, as their fates would have been left in the air. Would they survive Revenge of the Sith, do Ahsoka and Rex go into hiding, what does Maul do when Palpatine now rules the Galaxy. Apparently in George Lucas' sequel trilogy Maul would have returned as the main antagonist as the ruler of the underworld with Legends character Darth Talon as his new apprentice

I find it really sad that Obi-Wan knew how much the mission to spy on Palpatine hurt Anakin; the novelisation of ep III expands on this more, but Obi-Wan is genuely shocked by the look on his eyes and Anakin retorting with "what if Palaptine asked me to spy on you?". He all but tells Windu and Yoda that he thinks they have shattered Anakin's trust on the Jedi. Furthermore, the scene that Padmé mentions to Anakin ("he came to visit this morning... he was worried about you") is shown. Obi-Wan is truly worried, he reminds us of how young Anakin is (23!!!!) and how much pressure he has been under, he admits to know they love each other but he doesn't care and feigns ignorence because she's the only one who makes him happy, and just wants her to talk to Anakin. Now we have Obi-Wan telling Ahsoka what he ALWAYS should've told Anakin: "the Council... is not always right". (It's quite humbling, as Obi-Wan IS part of it, but the movies never show this level of introspecion on his part). It's just sad to see how hard Obi-Wan tried, and how smart Palpatine was in that isolating Anakin from Obi-Wan, the Order and Padmé (+separated from Ahsoka) left him with someone very easy to manipulate.

He later slaughters dozens of armed Mandalorians with his bare hands and gives one of my favorite Grievous quotes: "Those of you who can still stand (crushes a Mandalorian's skull) return to your masters and tell them to send more men to die!" And the sense of finality that both the war for Mandalore and the Clone Wars themselves are finally over.

Ahsoka beating Maul makes no sense. She’s a 16 year old Padawan without a full education. Maul is one of the best duelists ever. People defend this saying „Maul wasn’t trying to kill her and didn’t go all out on her“. That is also nonsense, because Ahsoka wasn’t trying to kill him as well and even if that was the case he would still beat her even if he held back. I wouldn’t complain if she won this fight with help but she won single handedly. So that means Ahsoka is more powerful than Qui Gon and Obi Wan lmao. If shes that good she could challenge Palpatine at 22. Ah wait, she couldn’t, she got her ass kicked in Rebels
@edwardarroyo884
@edwardarroyo884 3 жыл бұрын
I mean it was more Maul beating himself since he got overconfident, like he did with Canan and Padiwan Kenobi, while some seem to think Kenobi actually beat Maul at that point he clearly didn't, it was Maul's overconfidence, plus Maul doesn't seem to care much anymore since he wanted Ashoka to kill him at the end. Filoni also mentioned this is Maul at his lowest due to everything that's going on, and even then he was clearly a better fighter than Ashoka as he disarmed her 3 times and could have just ended her with the force at the end.

Ahsoka never beat Maul. He never wanted her dead. If he did, she would be dead. Maul holds back his power most of the time in this show and it really sucks. Hes just as powerful as Vader, and dave filoni really didnt give him the justice he deserves. Dave filoni created ahsoka so he didnt allow her to lose. I think Ahsoka is comparable to Rey in this episode. Shes just given this ridiculous amount of power for no reason other than to please the fans. Ahsoka is powerful, but shes never done anything major to prove that shes on the level of maul. She lost to ventress and bariss offee, both of which are far weaker than darth maul.
@edwardarroyo884
@edwardarroyo884 3 жыл бұрын
While I agree she is no where near Maul's level, Filoni talked about that he was at his worst here due to everything that was happening, while she was at her best, and even then he proved to be a better fighter he just got overconfident, which happens a lot unfortunately, also it's worth noting that he seems to want to die, at least a little, since he would rather have had Ashoka let him die than keep going, so I don't think he cared much at this point.

@@akindumarasinghe131 It's both, Filoni talked about how Maul was at his worst while she was at his best, he was distracted, and also still wanted her to help him so he wasn't even close to his usual level, normal Maul would be too much for her, hell he's significantly stronger than her force wise anyway, so if he really wanted he could have just force choked her, he does that to Kenobi with no effort, and destroys the Venator's hyperdrive, and it doesn't even seem like he's trying his hardest there. Plus the fact he lasted as long as he did against Sidious at the end of their fight shows how good he is, since even Sidious looks annoyed that Maul is keeping up as much as he is.

I feel like 99% of Star Wars "what if" scenarios around Anakin falling to the dark side massively underestimate Palpatine to a comical level. As if changing one small thing would somehow unravel Palpatine's plan and make it so that he tells Anakin he's a Sith Lord but Anakin doesnt turn? The one thing you can be certain of in all of Star Wars is that Palpatine would *never* show his true colours to Anakin until he was confident Anakin was ready. We see in Clone Wars that he periodically tests the water with him, setting up situations that mirror what happens at the start of Episode 3 to see if the time has come. If Ahsoka were still around? Palpatine would have found a way to frame her or make her leave. If Qui Gon survived? Palpatine would have needed to drive a wedge between them or have him killed. If Anakin told Obi Wan about Padme? Palpatine would have done something about that too. I'll accept a lot of fun and speculation, but there's no alternate universe where Palpatine tells Anakin he's the Sith Lord and gets caught with his pants down. He'd simply choose a different moment or give up on Anakin all-together if he had to.
@Blitzvonic
@Blitzvonic 3 жыл бұрын
It also doesn't help that the main point of Palpatine shaking Anakin, that being Anakin's distrust in the Jedi Order, is the real main reason Anakin willingly joins Palps. If there's anything that could have have prevented all of this, it would be making the order more likable for Anakin.

I know there are plenty of videos on youtube proposing super-edits of The Clone Wars finale arc together with Revenge of the Sith. I would recommend actually doing it. It's easiest to just jump back and forth on Disney+. I watched the first episode, then the first 30 minutes or so of RotS, (to Obi-Wan leaving Coruscant) then this episode, then another 30 minutes or so of RotS (past the Order 66 montage), then the 3rd episode, then finish RotS, then finish TCW. You can't make it perfectly line up. You end up having to go back to Order 66 because there's no way to have the RotS montage edited in with TCW, (and I could never interrupt the gorgeous music that way) but I still REALLY recommend doing it. It takes HOURS, but it makes a seriously good movie. I mean, I love RotS, but it's so micro-focused on Anakin (like how they deleted the Seeds of the Rebellion side story that actually gave Padme more of a role than just the weepy pregnant wife) that it's easy to forget that there really is a galaxy-wide war out there, so watching RotS and TCW together at the same time just makes it all feel so much more epic and impressive. Anakin and Palpatine are the center of RotS, but Ahsoka and Maul are their lost apprentices (which one is "The Phantom Apprentice"? Or is that title referring to Anakin?), so it's still feels very connected.

Obviously the Maul stuff this episode is possibly some of the best Star Wars period. But the one scene I really appreciate is the holo meeting with Obi Wan. The way he breaks the news that Anakin killed Dooku and the reaction from Ahsoka is perfect. It isn't this happy "Anakin's won a great victory for the Republic", it's a "Yeah Anakin just murdered this man in cold blood"
