It's worth noting that the Republic wouldn't strictly be "invading" Mandalore, because Mandalore is a constituent member planet of the Republic. They are *neutral* in the war, but not *independent* as a whole. Satine herself acknowledges that she swore an oath to the Republic, and Prince Tal Merrick, who betrayed her last episode, was Mandalore's Senator in the Galactic Senate. So it's not like they're a completely independent world whose sovereignty the Republic is violating. They're a Republic member who has chosen to not participate in the conflict between the Republic's central government and the Separatists, which is their right, because the Republic was originally founded on the principle that member planets can choose when and how much they want to contribute (This is obviously changing as the Republic becomes increasingly centralized under Palpatine's rule, but they are still technically subjects of the Republic, and subject to the will of the Senate as a whole. Mandalore is Republic territory and the Republic is empowered to station forces there if the majority of the Senate wants that to happen. It's a bit hard to compare to anything in our world because we don't really have federal governments where power is so thoroughly devolved to the member states as is its in the Galactic Republic, but basically, imagine if each of the 50 states had its own separate army, and was allowed to independently decide whether they wanted to participate in the Iraq War or not. Mandalore's situation is like if the Governor of Idaho decided to not declare war on Saddam Hussein, and not contribute soldiers from its own Idahoan military to the fight. Idaho would still be part of the United States, and the Governor of Idaho would still be under both the President and the Congress in terms of hierarchy, but he would have enough power to choose not to participate in certain projects or conflicts that the country as a whole becomes involved in.

There was actually a state hundreds of years ago called the Holy Roman Empire, which was more or less a federation of German, and northern Italian states. Even though the were supposively one Empire under one Emperor. All the states (or princes) were all very independent and autonomous to themselves. And when war is ever declared upon the Empire, the princes can choose whether or not to contribute, usually the Emperor himself is in charge of protecting the empire as a whole from outside invaders, most of the time the princes are usually fighting amongst themselves for power and territory. They were also a elective Monarchy so the technically vote who will be the emperor (usually Austria 90% of the time). That’s about the closest real world thing I could compare the Republic to.

As someone who actually loves the politics of the prequel era, I probably enjoy these episodes a lot more than most people. Having said that though, it's probably for the best that you guys are doing chronological order instead of release, because the release order has basically ALL the slow political episodes in a row most of the time, which even I find getting pretty damn tedious, cause some of them really are a bit much.

Given to the right people, you can make a really good political thriller/drama show out of Coruscant. Ripe with potential, you can have new characters or bring in Bail Organa, Mon Mothma, and especially Padme since she really shines in the political ring and is not afraid to get in on the action.
@MrZAP175 жыл бұрын
I like politics in shows because I'm interested in politics in real life. That said for that very reason these episodes have never really worked for me because I find them so incredibly dumbed down and childish from anything in the real world. The only politician of any level of competence is Palpatine, and even he's not great all the time (in the TCW specifically; overall I think he's amazing). The way they go about everything just doesn't work and breaks my suspension of disbelief. The political things are one of my only real complaints about the show because I feel they could have done them much better instead of turning it into the equivalent of a 7 year old's understanding of politics.

I don't mind the idea of the New Mandalorians (Expanded Universe fan as well) I thought it was an interesting take that expanded on the culture of Mandalore beyond purely the martial. That said I always knew this government was going to fail. Satine chose to break away from the martial code of her people when the smarter move would have been to incorporate it into the new system, thereby cutting the people off from their traditions and potentially honour. Doomed from the start.

Here we have another typical example of Palpatine and by extension - Dooku (as his top man) manipulating a situation so that it becomes ideal for the upcoming Empire. On one hand they are supporting Death Watch and their separatism but make no mistake - in the end they are still just pawns, pawns used to bring the War to Mandalore and then justify a Republic/CIS invasion. Regardless of who wins the actual battle for Mandalore, the Empire is the true winner. Obviously, Death Watch had no idea about any of that. They may have been the ones killing that guy and they may not have been the ones. What's for sure is that they most likely would not have approved of the plan for the message manipulation, because that will just bring a Republic intervention (and from their perspective, an end to their civil war) which might restore Satine's regime and end their growing power.

Lelouch remarked to C.C. about it: _"The layered structure built to be earthquake-resistant, but demolish all of the floor sections simultaneously and you won't find anything to be more fragile."_ Perhaps the same concept can be applied to Coruscant in how the numerous layers of structure built over millennia on the planet's surface has allowed it to become resistant - or practically immune - to such natural phenomena as earthquakes. Just a thought.

Koop in legends, coruscant is the planet where human life started (in form of the Zhell people). The Zhell that lived there battled the Taung people, which after losing to the Zhell and being forced off the planet retreated to one they called Mandalore, after their leader. They were the original Mandalorians. So... Mandalorians and humans have their origin on coruscant. Also, coruscant‘s climate is managed by weather machines that basically prevent the drastic atmospheric storms the people would suffer at the heights of the upper levels of coruscant. Another fun fact: the entire planet is basically one ginormous city, Galactic City.
