I love how completely BROKEN they made Maul here. It would have been so easy and tempting to just make him a feral animal, a complete berserker who is just 100% angry and spent the last several years being furious at KENOBIIIAAAUGH. But they didn't just do that. They also made him seem so fragile and scared. You get the sense that, maybe even more than anybody else in the galaxy, even Obi-Wan, Maul really just hates HIMSELF. Because he was brought up and trained from childhood for one single, solitary, hatred-fueled purpose, and then he fucked it up on basically his first proper outing, and threw away his entire life in the process. It really shows the drawback of giving in to the dark side in such a visceral way, because sometimes the Dark side just chews you up and then spits you back out. Savage finding Maul reminds of like footage from an animal shelter, where they find some poor, mangy dog that's been beaten and abused all its life, abandoned in a dumpster or something. Yeah the dog snarls at them, and tries to bite them, but it does it out of fear more than out of genuine anger, because it's just so used to having been abused all its life that it doesn't even comprehend the possibility of someone actually wanting to help it. Maul is a broken, abused animal that was beaten into a desired shape by its Master and then cast aside when it failed to fulfill its purposes, and I absolutely love how fantastically they portrayed that.

Creeker2001 Reviews and Montages I don’t believe it’s canon now, but The Wrath of Darth Maul is still a great novel. It chronicles much of his life from childhood when Palpatine finds him up to this moment. I think there’s some comics about his backstory too that are likely canon, but I haven’t read them
@christianlopez44184 жыл бұрын
Creeker2001 Reviews and Montages You’re welcome, have fun! A Maul show could be really awesome, but I’m not sure if we’ll get one. He’s been in a lot of material and people might potentially get tired of seeing him (I won’t though). I’m going to watch Rebels for the first time once season 7 of TCW is done and I’m very excited for it. I unfortunately got some things spoiled over time, but I doubt it’ll affect my enjoyment of the show
@christianlopez44184 жыл бұрын
Creeker2001 Reviews and Montages No, you’re fine and I’m glad you recommend it so much. I’ve often heard divisive things about Rebels, but I have a good feeling about it. I had watched some clips like Maul’s final scene with Obi-Wan and Ahsoka’s duel with Vader back when I wasn’t sure if I’d watch the show (which I do regret now). Still, those events will have a bigger impact now after I rewatched The Clone Wars a couple months ago. I’m definitely excited regardless to see Maul again and follow new characters I’ll hopefully like just as much.

What an outstanding episode this is. There are so, so many amazing moments. Maul's monologue with the twisted Sith Code, him reverting to his broken self. All that. The chains line is outstanding. I love it so much. The twisting dark parts around the spider body, it shaking - all that is just great. The only thing that pulls him through is his thirst for revenge. Also, getting massive LOTR feels again. The entire suspense part with the lair feels so heavily inspired by Shelob's lair in LOTR. Not to mention his Gollum-like dialogue. Ahh..I love the Maul episodes so much. His character arc is just insanely good. It just keeps getting better and better. Can't say much due to spoilers and Rebels, but yeah...goosebumps! Initially, I was not too keen on Maul being back either. I found him too talkative and all that. But now, now I find it all perfect. Outstanding work by George, Dave and Sam.

"Moral of the lesson": Never trust a snake-like creature on Lothor Minor, cause even if Morely will try to "help you" navigate the harsh environment on the planet he will betray you just so you would become Spider Maul's supper while Morley will eat the leftovers from your body.🐍 Quite an enjoyable episode not my favorite from the arc but enjoyable nonetheless. Even Sam Witwer's performance of Maul in this episode was disturbingly creepy. Lastly the voice of Morley the Anacondan is voiced by Ben Diskin who in the last episode voiced Krismo and Otua Blank.🐍🐍 Looking forward to next week's final episode of Season 4 and your reaction to this Friday's Clone Wars episode.

I feel like there were several parts during the full length reaction where Eric had to like physically restrain himself from aggressively shushing everyone else lol. Big mood honestly, I've seen this episode many times and I was STILL on the edge of my seat. (Also, while Anakin MIGHT remember what Maul's presence feels like, I don't think his "I sense something sinister, but familiar" moment at the beginning was meant to be him sensing Maul, pretty sure nobody could really sense Maul until the moment Savage started getting through to him. I think he just sensed Savage, who was literally right outside, and would naturally be familiar since they fought not too long ago on Toydaria)

“Chains are the easy part, it’s what goes on in here that’s hard” this same line was said in season 3 episode 16, when they meet Mortis and his son and daughter
@MikeHesk7424 жыл бұрын
Something that I always felt was made interesting by casting Witwer as Maul is that he's basically doing the same voice as The Son, this darkside personification. When they were on Mortis they unbalanced the force by first killing the daughter and bringing darkness, with the implication that this would have a similar destabilising effect on the galaxy. So the thing I wonder here on a spooky Force cosmic-level is whether Maul always survived and was always going to return, or whether the events on Mortis altered things and threw another dark piece into the mix.

0:16 They are both right. Ventress appears in one more episode while the rest of her story is told in the novel Dark Disciple. The book is based off of unproduced arcs, written by Katie Lucas, which were planned for Seasons 7 and 8. It would've featured the return of the bounty hunters. * Morley is voiced by Ben Diskin. He's best known for voicing Numbers 1 & 2 from Kids Next Door as well as Venom/Eddie Brock from Spectacular Spider-Man. Ben also voices some droids in some upcoming episodes. * I remember considering watching Clone Wars when I heard that Darth Maul would be appearing; but, I was intimidated when I found out I'd have to watch numerous episodes before seeing his return. I finally relented when I learned about something that happens in the Season 5 finale.

A lot of people at the time also thought Talzin was supposed to be dead. They assumed she pulled an Obi-Wan, which she kinda did since it is considered the "spirit world," but she is able to came back from it. And she even looks to be hit by laser fire before she fades away, even holding her stomach and bending over like she was hit. I'm looking at it now and it is clear we were meant to think she died from the laser fire and became a ghost, similar to how it originally looked like Vader cut down Kenobi in Ep4. I remember confusion from people at the time because of the way it seems her "ghost" couldn't stay with Ventress in that episode. I believe that was the impression they wanted people, and Ventress herself, to have at the time. Talzin was being manipulative. So Rick wasn't wrong at all to be confused. I think those of you who know the show were likely bringing in your memories of seeing her afterwards into your interpretation of that scene.
