I'm glad you recognised Sam Witwer's genius as a voice actor. He is easily one of the best things to happen to Star Wars. He also plays Starkiller, a very popular Star Wars character from the Force Unleashed games. He also voiced the Son in the Mortis arc. Sam is a massive Star Wars fan and has been ever since he was a kid. He is so knowledgeable when it comes to Star Wars that when he was filming his scenes as Maul, many times he corrercted the writers and showrunners on bits of lore and mainly on Maul's character and how to go about bringing him back. Maul is literally his child and it shows. Maul is one of the best characters in this show.

Fun fact #1 Maul is voiced by Sam Witwer who also voiced the Son of Mortis. #2: The legs Talzin gave to Maul are taken from an old "What if?" comic, titled "Old Wounds" in which Maul hunted down Obi-Wan on Tatooine in the 19-year gape between the OT and the PT. The shape of Maul's horns before Talzin shrunk them back, were also taken from that comic. #3 The scene of Maul igniting his lightsaber with the kids in the background is a reference to Vader igniting his lightsaber to kill the younglings in the Jedi Council Chamber, in Revenge of the Sith.

Mortis was when clone wars became interesting, Maul was when it became exciting. And Sam Witver still looks as young and fit as ever, he should play Starkiller again in a movie on the big screen.

Fun fact: the lightsaber Maul uses here is half of his old lightsaber he had back in "The Phantom Menace" since in that film Obi-Wan cut it in half. And Imagine Hating someone so much that that hatred kept you alive even beyond your body's limits. This is The Way of the Sith

Sam Witwer really giving us a lot of Maul by talking, you can hear the barely contained fury when he mentions what he did to survive,"fueled" by his singular hatred of Obi-Wan. Every line is said like he will break out into frothing at the mouth snarls at any moment.

I LOVED the Obi and Ventress team up. For Whatever reason the show writers made those two's rivalry flirtatious lol. Obi, Anakin, and Ashoka all have their own rivals, some having more than one, but the Ventress and Obi always been my favorite. The way they play off each other is perfect. I always had the feeling if Obi was on a mission and trying to get leads in a bar, if he bumped into Ventress there looking for work they'd probably share a round of drinks and chat. I mean she ain't part of the CIS anymore so none really have a reason to attack each other.

I truly feel sorry for Maul. Being taken away from his mother and abducted by this wicked sith lord who had seated as Chancellor of the Senate. And even being left in the dark for too many years is beyond awful, being trapped in formless pitch black while poisoned by hatred and half drowning in despair. He is like Atrocitus without a doubt, both strange beings who had faced an incredible tragedy they've been through. I truly hope other people would help Maul instead of taunting and fighting him so recklessly, all according to Charles Xavier's words of wisdom: "Just because someone stumbles, loses their way, it does not mean they are lost forever."

Sam Witver plays Maul in Clone Wars and provides the voice for him in several other adaptations alongside Palpatine. The reason he sounds familiar to you tho is because he also voiced The Son And honestly looking back on it, the guy is a really underrated VA. His range alone is actually crazy.

Good observation, you definitely right about the fact, that Kenobi couldn't outhate Maul, firstly because Maul was raised by Sidious from very young age in the ways of the Sith order, in which case he must had learned how to use his hatred and emotions in general and Obi Wan was raised in the Jedi order and for all his life learned how to suppress and ignore his emotions

fun fact: the original actor for darth maul in Phantom Manis, was actually a sword combat master, so we have him to thank for the sword skills in the original movies! Also whenever I revisit this fight, I always notice the challenge the animators had with the lightsabers, they would look fine up until one scene, and then in that scene the lightsabers would look transparent, like not animated all the way like they should be, not sure if you guys noticed it too but just thought I share that!

The Red intro, Kenobi's temporary use of a red Light Saber, seeing Ventris in a new light -- Annakin isn't the only one moving beyond certain boundaries in this series. Also, I enjoyed your reactions and discussion afterwards. This reaction today is part of a personal breakfast sandwich: Firefly, Clone Wars, and Firefly. Tasty indeed!

I love Obi-Wan realising he's becoming unbalanced here and is at risk of using the darkside, so does the right thing - the Grievous thing! - and runs. Live to fight another day. Many feared when Lucas suggested resurrecting Maul, but they pull it off, just you see!

And season 4 is done! We're over halfway through the series. I know these were recorded a while back, but since you asked about the voice actor, I'll bring up Sam Witwer's other major Star Wars role. He provides the voice and likeness of Galen Marek AKA: Starkiller, the main character of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 1 and 2. The games aren't canon anymore, but the first one is still pretty fun. I won't spoil too much in case you decide to check it out, but it follows the story of Marek serving as the secret apprentice of Darth Vader. Well, on to the other fun facts! Maul's legs that Mother Talzin gives him are based on his design in the Star Wars: Visionaries comic "Old Wounds" that I mentioned last episode. I think I mentioned this on another episode, but just in case I'll say it here, Talzin is Maul's birth mother. This means she is also Savage and Feral's mother, which just shows how cold she is when she doesn't object or even react to Ventress ordering Savage to kill Feral in his debut episode back in season 3. Speaking of Ventress, she's back! We once again meet her in Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina on Tatooine. You'd think it's the only bar on Tatooine with how many times we visit it. We also got to see Obi-Wan Kenobi: Master of Sass again! Great to see that him and Ventress can instantly go right back in to funny banter no matter the situation or what side they're on. Maul's lightsaber he uses is his same double bladed saber he used in Phantom Menace, or at least half of it. Guess he never got the chance to fix it while he was going insane. I forgot this one last episode, but the freighter that Savage stole and has been using with Maul is called a Terrapin-class Bulk Tanker, also known as the Goji-DF or Turtle Tanker. Both the name and design of the ship were inspired by Dave Filoni's pet turtle, Goji. That's all I've got for this episode! See you guys next week for season 5!

For the longest time my family called Obi-wan "the master of sass" but when Ventress showed she was his equal in smack talk it made me laugh and root for the pair throughout the fight in the cargo bay. Maul coming back is completely crazy, and teamed up with an absolute monster like Savage -- this is going to get so much worse before it gets better.

I was always a fan of Maul from Episode 1, just the visual design and double bladed saber I always thought was cool (I've always been a fan of Sith because of how cool they look compared to most Jedi). But the issue with him from Episode 1 is how limited his character is, the pretty much mute villain whose only reason is to develop Obi Wan into the Jedi he eventually becomes. Clone Wars gave Maul so much as a character that he became an organic part of the universe rather than a throwaway stepping stone that he was in the films.

What I like is that: when you bring back a character like Maul, it's really easy for it to feel really cheap. They're just doing it because he was popular even if it doesn't really make sense. So what they do is they don't just bring Maul back immediately- they let it slowly ease in. No spoilers, but Maul is one of the best characters in the show.

Obi wan passed his Jedi trials during the first duel with maul but the second time was different because his master wasn’t there. Maul used a force taunt during the second encounter which is standard sith strategy although it backfired on him. Jedi can actually use this taunt too to fuel themselves in battle but also turn it right back around. It’s a double edged sword that has its advantages or disadvantages. Obi wan also switched from his standard form 3/1 mix to the slightly more aggressive form 4 which his master used. It was a tribute to qui gon jinn actually. Jinn was famous for completely revamping form 4 into a grounded fighting form that could take opponents apart quickly. Yoda uses the standard form 4 of constant leaping around and hitting from random places, suiting his small stature. Yoda usually adds the defensive form 3 and the blaster return of form 5 second version (the first version is lightsaber specific) to round out his fighting style. Obi wan rarely ever uses form 4 although elements of it show up time to time. He is primarily a form three specialist using pure defense to wear out whatever he is fighting but adds simple form 1 as his primary attacking style. Although he’s seen every form of lightsaber combat so he could create defensive ideas. Maul is a form seven user but with a form six base. Basically form six tries to balance every form except form 7 as it has no weaknesses but no advantages at the same time. Form seven is the absolute most aggressive form and the user relishes destroying his opponent using it. It requires some sort of base form to use as it doesn’t work without one. Maul is trained in every lightsaber form from 1 to six but chose 6 as it’s the most balanced, he added hand to hand combat under Jedi hunters, blaster knowledge from the best bounty hunters, knowledge from the top guys in the criminal underworld, and political knowledge from sidious. Maul is a serious threat to everyone. He combined it all under the form 7 banner.
