Some extra info for this episode, after maul is captured by papa palps there is actually a comic storyline where mauls mandalorians break him free and he returns to mandalore, this helps season seven flow a little better.

“The Lawless” is one of the greatest episodes in the show by far. Obi wan opening the door to see the battle outside, Maul realizing Sidious is there, and the “there is no mercy” line we’re all fucking incredible. Banger of an episode

You're forgetting the setup with Satine's death. Up until then, you hadn't really seen Obi-Wan taking anything so personally before since we all saw his reaction to Anakin falling to the Dark Side. The death scene pretty much ignited everything moving forward.

After this season ended, Clone Wars was canceled before being revived again so the arc that takes place in between this and the next time you see Maul became a comic called Son of Dathomir. It’s definitely a necessary read after watching this to make sense of the final season.

He's not the perfect jedi. He's too attached to the council and its rules. He's still one of the truest jedi in the order of course, but not the truest we see in the franchise. The two absolute truest jedi, who are basically both perfect, are Luke and Ahsoka. Jedi like Obi-Wan and Plo are also very true jedi, but don't do anything to try and change the ways of the jedi that have been very corrupted. Of course we can't forget Qui-Gon, who is almost, if not as true as Luke and Ahsoka

Sad fact really about this episode, Ian Abercrombie the original voice actor for Palpatine died shortly after recording the episode. So, he was replaced by Tim Curry for the rest of the show. But the cool thing is when Palpatine tells Maul he's been replaced by Anakin (Dooku was really just a pawn) they used Tim Curry's line and merged the audio together. So, in classic Curry fashion, he comes in when things get super dark and terrifying.

I am pretty sure he was playing with them. He prefers 1 lightsaber over 2, and fights better with 1, but he used 2, meaning he wasn't going full out on them. He knew he was far superior. He was also smiling and laughing during the fight, and you could tell he wasn't taking it seriously just by the way he was fighting. He was taking extra time and wasn't being as precise as he could be. He didn't see them as much of a threat. I am pretty sure if he wanted to he could end the fight much quicker

Gotta give respect to Maul, he became so powerful and dangerous that Palpatine realised he had to take care of it personally or his plans could be in jepordy. He called him a rival, which is basically him giving Maul his respect, even if he has to kill him. Also big props to this show for managing to make us actually care about Savage and Maul, who are villains.

Btw, we would have seen what happend with Palpatine and Maul after this arc in the (about) 40 still unfinished episodes (or 10 arcs) which were cancelled in 2013 by Disney taking over Star Wars. I really hope they show us these missing stories (on screen) some time in the future. (The episodes would have played out before the season 7 finale.) Maybe we could make them happen again through petitions or something? The story with Maul and Palpatine is called "Son of Dathomir" and also a comic now, btw.

Oh, make sure you read the comic online somewhere called: "Son of Dathomir" It's a story arc in the Clone Wars there was NEVER made and converted into a comic. As you may know that after Season 5 of the series, it was cancelled by Disney right after they bought Star Wars. Season 6 was just completed episodes they had already made. And of course Dave Filoni was able to make a short Season 7 in 2020 to complete the series. But "Son of Dathomir" continues Maul's story after you see him defeated by Palpatine and where he goes and it's important to how he shows up again later in the series before it finishes.

I find the different approaches that Sidious and Obi-wan had to taking on Maul and Savage fascinating. Obi-wan is far more tactical and considerate, relying on his defensive abilities and skill with a lightsaber to beat the two. Sidious meanwhile just completely cuts loose and uses his immense power in the force to amplify himself by a ludicrous amount, with Sidious essentially running circles around the two due to his immense speed. Sidious effortlessly blocking Savage's blows and moving faster than the other two can really react to demonstrates this perfectly. This fight to me perfectly shows how powerful Sidious is and the difference between him and a high-level council member-Kenobi in this instance.
