The coruscant return missions, a mission vs pirates and mandalorians on Cloud City itself to save Garm, and a Nar Shadaa surface level are all PS2/Wii/PSP exclusive content. You also weirdly don't fight real Stormtroopers till the Deathstar level in that, only "Imperial Navy commandos" which look like a mix of stormtrooper and snowtrooper.

As someone who both played the game and read the novel... I'm in total agreement with the criticisms =P Despite the nice Juno characterization and worldbuilding bits, it just came off so clumsily structured and 'game-y' with no satisfying overall throughline or growth. The weird 'side events' like PROXY and the Raxus AI or that Rodian junk gang boss just felt hamfisted and needless. And the 'twist' is empty and feels so contrived, hinting at Vader wanting Luke to be his apprentice... even though Vader has no inkling of Luke's existence yet tells Starkiller that he "wont do with him, no." On the bright side... I hiiiighly highly recommend the sequel. Sean Williams does a great job with the sequel. It actually has a tighter narrative and satisfying payoffs for the characters. Never does it feel 'game-y'. It's really heartening to see Sean spread his wings with the sequel (=

That would be the canon ending. I guess we could see Starkiller as a high ranking Inquisitor. Also, Palpatine's plan was probably to either rout them out or he, though he knew he had people challenging his rule, he didn't know exactly who they were until the events in the game. After all, Iblis, Organa and Mothma were also masterminds and Palpatine may have decided on using that complex plot in order to expose them. We could say that the Rebellion existed but was not as coordinated until Galen got them together. Maybe they didnt actually know where they were taken to, I don't remember if their location was mentioned.

I agree with you on that I don't like how it retcons the formation of the rebel alliance for all the reasons you said as well as that it completely undermines Padme's "Good little Senators" speech in the ROTS novel

1:26 To be fair all the force users and some of the vehicles are also OP to compensate. It's a very silly but fun game.

Also the book really should have tried to weave in both versions of the Video Game. The Garm cloud city bit was really good.

Afternoon Meg. Always fun to see one of your reviews pop up. Sounds about right from the comments I've seen on line over the years. I don't play video games but this seems in line with what I've heard. The point about being a key part of the start of the rebellion really hit a sore point. Why must everyone OC be the most important person in such a well known universe. It gets old. I felt the same way about the cartoon Rebels which I'd never watched when it was on and only watched in prep for Ashoka. It often felt like stolen valor to me of Luke, Han and Leia. As a cartoon for kids that's fine but don't make that canon.

The romance between the two works much better visually in the game. Still makes me choke up at their ending.

Speaking of video game characters Meg have you played Jedi Survivor ? And what did you think of live action Thrawn in Ahsoka ? Will you be reviewing Tarkin or Kenobi books ?

Despite Starkiller being my favorite character, theres no way he can be adapted into the new canon. We saw how over powered rey is, imagine starkiller.

Oh no, the game was also REALLY dumb, and basically crapped on the Han Solo Trilogy, Interlude at Darkknell, and various other "Foundation of the rebellion" stories. Other parts of it were very fun and I liked a lot of the characters.

You should consider introducing yourself very briefly at the start. Like "I'm Meg and today I'm reviewing Star Wars: The Force Unleashed novelisation" or whatever. You sound a lot more interesting too when you're reading off script, more animated, engaging. It's maybe just the intro where it's a bit wooden, you warm up very quickly. I'd have reshot the intro, the first minute or so, and then stitched it together in editing. Your enunciation is great. I almost want to buy this book after watching this. I bet you could make a living off videos like this, get a following of young people.
