Each class not only gets its own unique storyline, but also its own cast of companions and supporting characters, both allies and enemies. Depending on the player's choices, they might experience very different versions of their character's personality. In particular, I found that playing a "light-side" Sith Inquisitor was really fun and interesting, as you were essentially a good person with dark powers in service to a corrupt, decadent society. Just because the game gives you the "Shock Them" dialogue option, doesn't mean you can't talk them down instead.

The Imperial Agent storyline is actually rather cool especially with how the VA shifted their accent at times during the storyline. Like when talking to their superiors they use an 'Imperial Accent' aka British, but when going undercover during storybits they drop that accent in order to blend in.

You can be dark side while a Jedi/Republic and be lightside as a Sith/Imperial. One of my favorite playthroughs was as a Sith Warrior. I played him lightside and so he behaved as an honorable warrior. It's so much fun and narratively satisfying to be a Sith on the lightside as the Jedi and Republic you encounter are always shocked or confused by your actions. And honestly for Sith Warrior going lightside feels the most naratively satisfying with how the story goes.

For the lightsaber question, purple does represent a presence of some dark side. Revan canonicaly used a purple lightsaber, and he swung between the two extremes at different times. Mace Windu had one, because he used a variant of the forbidden lightsaber form used by Sith. The form requires tapping into darker emotions to fuel your movements, but Windu manages to feed off the emotions of his opponent rather than his own. I love the Sith Inquisitor, because of the subclass "sorcerer". Force powers for days!

Up to a point, this game was AMAZING!!! Mechanically, there were actually less classes than advertised, but that was made up for by each class having it's own unique storyline, all of which I played through, and the ability to choose how your character would develop, whether that was dark side over light side, gaining NPC companions, all of which were romancable or customizing your lightsaber if you had one. It was a time when The Old Republic became a legitimate competitor to World of Warcraft, which was wild to me.

So Swtor is an mmo, so there's alot of player customisation. Lightsaber customisation is a big part of that, from the hilt, to the blade colour and the edge colour. You could have a black blade with an orange edge light if you want. It's possible they just gave her a purple one to compliment the purple force lightning.

It is so hard for me to play a dark side character. Not because I don't like playing an evil person, but because the evil options often end up feeling dumb and shallow. Oftentimes, it's a choice between: - Strangle and torture random NPC and force-yeet them into the trash compactor (you're more eviler now, huzzah! Cue the Imperial March!) or - Spare random NPC (they will never forget your kind and merciful light-sided heart... Also they reveal they're an undercover agent with nuclear launch codes and coordinates to a hidden Republic military base with dozens of jedi)

I have played through majority of the game, played through all classes pre7.0 and I love the Imperial Agent storyline(!) Second best storyline(s): Sith and Jedi Warriors. This game is 10 years old and is still packing! Edit: the blue "vampire" Imperial agent as you called him, he is a Chiss. If you have watched Star Wars Rebels, Thrawn is also a Chiss.

Basically the classes are counterparts, where, for example, sith inquisitor and jedi consular have the same gameplay, but are visually different, inquisitor channeling lightning, while a consular throws rocks, bounty hunter and trooper, jedi knight and sith warrior, and imperial officer and smuggler are the pairings. Each class though has its own story while leveling up as well, such as Jedi Knight searching for the Sith Emperor, or the bounty hunter participating in the Grand Hunt. Each class gets a bevy of companions as well that can aid you while playing solo, and are romancable like in mass effect games. And the color of laser your blasters fire and of your lightsaber blades are a purely customizable cosmetic. Hope this helped.

Just for some more context: Every class has it's own story with several chapters, and every planet you visit has a side-story to complete while you're there. The planet stories and sidequests are the same for everyone on your team (Republic or Empire) but each class has their own specific storyline. For customizing your character, you can swap between male and female, and with a bunch of different alien race options, and a few body-types. This game can basically be played as if it was singleplayer/CO-OP just for the stories, if you'd like. They're fully voiced with even minor characters you see only once or in the background having actual voice-acting, unlike a lot of MMORPGs. And like other Bioware games, you have dialogue options and can have different outcomes and events on each playthrough. For example, you can be a normal hero-like Jedi, or a Jedi slowly falling into a darker path. You can be a decent Smuggler & Bounty Hunter, or just be all-around ruthless and mean. You can straight-up be that Sith Inquisitor character who usually loves to torture, and change them to be nice and cheery, although it doesn't make much sense lol. There's even companions with their own storylines you can help out, or start up a romance with. For the game-play, they recently added more options to the class weapons. They used to be more class-restricted, but now Blaster characters can choose any blaster, and Force-wielders can use any type of lightsaber. But it is still a World of Warcraft typical combat system. I used to play this game a lot, so I definitely can recommend it to StarWars fans. It's really neat, and the story for Imperial Agent, Smuggler, Jedi, and Sith Warrior are honestly just really good on their own.

For a little more insight into the classes, I'd recommend looking at the trailers again as individual videos, because the comilation video here did cut a little bit each time, namely how the classes originally split into two more "subclass" options. These then have more speciality in a certain type of combat. The Jedi Knight for example splits into the Jedi Guardian and the Jedi Sentinel. The Guardian is resilience-focused while the Sentinel wields two lightsabers and is damage-focused. The Sith Warrior is the Empire's counterpart to that - they split into Sith Juggernaut and Sith Marauder, with the Juggernaut being the tank-focus and the Marauder the damage-focus. The Jedi Consular splits into the Sage and the Shadow. Sage does ranged combat and heals while the Shadow is a stealth class with a double-bladed lightsaber. The Sith Inquisitor then splits into the Sorcerer and the Assassin. The Sorcerer is the Sage's counterpart (e.g. throwing lightnings instead of rocks) while the Assassin does the stealth part. The Smuggler splits into Scoundrel and Gunslinger. Gunslinger is a ranged and damage-focused class with two pistols instead of one while Scoundrel can stealth and heal. The Imperial Agent then splits into the Sniper and Operative. The Sniper has his exclusive weapon type in the name and is the Gunslinger's counterpart while the Operative gets the stealth. The Trooper splits into the Vanguard and the Commando. Vanguard is a melee-focused and tanky class while Commando gets the big guns seen in the trailer. The Bounty Hunter splits into PowerTech and Mercenary. PowerTech is Vanguard's counterpart but has a flame thrower. Mercenary gets an additional pistol and many, many rockets. The classes were also bound to a certain storyline each, with 8 storylines in total. Since you get a certain level of control in your character's storyline, you can sometimes choose between "Light" or "Dark" in dialogue options, which all the storylines have (yes, even the Sith can play completely Light-Side if you want them to). These mechanics were gradually made more "loose" with updates. Now you create a character by simply selecting both the storyline and the subclass in the beginning, instead of doing it later in the game, and you can choose freely out of all the thematically fitting classes for your chosen storyline (e.g. all the Blaster-focused classes for every non-force storyline etc.). With how the storyline-system works now, the trailers are a better representation for the storyline than for the classes, since as said, the classes aren't bound to their story anymore. But they're pretty good in that regard. I personally think every story has it's Ups and Downs, but the community generally agrees that the Imperial Agent storyline is the one that's the most developed, with choices that the player makes actually impacting significantly how certain things play out. My personal favourite would probably be the Inquisitor, but my choice is completely nostalgic-based. That was the story I finished first in it's entirety, and I still have my character from back then. I played light-side, which sometimes made for very hilarious commentary during the story.

SWTOR, despite being an MMO, does have a lot of that old-school BioWare narrative brilliance. Each class (or "Origin" as the story choice is called after a recent overhaul, in which the choice of storyline and gameplay mechanics was split into two separate choices) has its own storyline for the base game, which are then merged into a singular narrative path in the expansions which still occasionally acknowledges your character background. Each Origin's story feels very different - the Jedi Knight for example is your standard Star Wars hero's journey, while the Imperial Agent is a James Bond-esque spy thriller, and the SIth Inquisitor is an underdog story where a former slave ends up climbing the ranks of the Sith Empire after being found Force Sensitive.

In the context of this game which is old Canon. Purple was a color used by both sith and jedi, it was a rarer color overall. It can symbolize having both light and dark tendencies but it doesn't always mean that. With Samuel l Jackson's mace windu he does have training to his sword style that plays on his own connection to the dark side to use it against foes like reflecting it back at them. But I would say for the inquisitors story she likely has purple to compliment her purple lightning more than a symbolic reason.

Each class has its own story. Each planet has its storyline as well that's the same for each faction (i.e. Republican and Empire have their own storyline), but you also have a class storyline that runs through the entire game, and usually tracks your character's personal motives while they're roaming around the galaxy doing work for their faction. Some of the storylines were better than others, with the Imperial Agent being notable for most people thinking it's the best one. The Sith Inquisitor and Sith Warrior storylines were also really good, in part because they both had really good antagonists. Ken is correct, each character can be male or female, and you can massively customize your appearance such as species, face, hair, eye colour, hair colour, etc. The light saber colour in the game doesn't really make any difference; Sith are traditionally red or purple in this era, while the Jedi are blue (knights), Green (Consular) or yellow (Sentinels). But many different colour crystals exist and it largely just comes down to a cosmetic choice on the part of the players (although some colour crystals are very rare and have require a lot of work to get. My Sith had a red light saber with a black core). Interesting that you'd pick Consular and Inquisitor, since those two classes are basically equivalent to one another. They're the squishiest class in the game, and are lightly armored. But both of them can be specked to do MASSIVE damage (honestly, the class balancing in the game was pretty bad).

It's been retconned by Disney, I think. But, the colors of the lightsabers are supposed to represent a force user's strongest emotions. If that makes sense. x_x

Every class is more like "Which story quest do you want to do?", 2 classes start their journey always on the same planet, and don't worry about the purple lightsaber, you can customize your own character and none of classes really have a significant past. Best part of Star Wars: The Old Republic for me, is the dialogue choices, evil, sassy or sarcastic, or the boring nice goody-two-shoes, this can also end up giving you the choice of being the worst Jedi who is rotten as hell and kills everyone whenever they feel like it, or the worst Sith where you are too nice and hilariously, hated by your own sith lord, even if that doesn't change too much of the main story quests. I wish I knew of a good video that doesn't do out-of-context dialogue choices though, otherwise I would have recommended you to check every dialogue option that could be possible!

The question relating to the colour of the crystal being symbolic is a little different in Lucas earlier idea it was Jedi is blue/green & sith is red. Other extended universe they also introduced the idea of yellow crystals amongst others. Kotor had the Jedi options being blue/green/yellow, Because each related to a class you could be Jedi Knight/Consular/Sentinel. Yes Mace Windu had a purple one but that was by request of the actor. Also pretty smart as he himself has pointed out that helps him identify himself in a big battle scene. Mace Windu figured out his own style known as Vaapad which is a variant of Juyo which is vicious already. Whether he came from Sith ancestry or not would be a little hard to determine without a genealogy of him. It would also depend on what you mean by Sith. If you mean Sith Pureblood species or just human that is of the Sith empire or sith ideology & training. It is a massive time period as the era of SWTOR is ~3000 years earlier then his time. Game mechanics wise the colour of the crystal can be simply an aesthetic choice as stats wise there are multiple iterations. But there is some fun colours in it including the black core ones in the game. As others have answered yes all classes have their own class story path with natural differences if you go lightside or darkside. As to which one is best that is pretty much down to what you you enjoy. I will say if either of you play as an Inquisitor just for giggles pick the shock option when presented with it. Just remember that is a darkside move in dialogue choices. ;)

All classes have their own storyline indeed. They did revamp the class system last year to give people more freedom, but essentially yes. I played the full prologue (which is the main storyline before the expansions) for all but bounty hunter to the end and with 1 I am almost done with the eternal empire expansion (The one with the 2 brothers and the girl) so I have a couple hours in the game to say the least. I find this MMO criminally underrated. My main character is a "Jedi" that I played to slowly turn to the dark side, Anakin style. The fact the the game gives you that much freedom is amazing to me. Playing as a murdering Sith, reaching full Darth status at the end was also so cool! Again no matter what storyline you play, you can really do what you want thanks to the dialogue system that gives you light, dark and neutral options. Plus the storylines in general are all really good which makes the game very replayable. Also about the lightsabers. I don't think it had any meaning here, because in the game you can change your light saber to any colour as the player. Sith still use Red in the story, Jedi variation of colours and the Eternal Empire uses the yellow. Also keep in mind Mace Windy is from a completely different time than this and I don't think at the time it had any meaning why he had the purple one outside of Samuel wanting it to be purple, but don't quote me on that one.

There are as many opinions about which class is the best as the number of players. For me, the best class was the Sith Inquisitor. His( her )favorite phrase is "I thought I was crazy." I like to play for the light side Sith. The confusion of the Jedi when a Sith does something merciful and noble is priceless. It's also nice to play a little madman. A charismatic but eternally childish character with too much power, but still kind person. Yeah bratty but still. "I was the one who killed Skotia!!!" Npc: Yeah yeah, if you can't say how you master did it just say so. "How much i need to repeat it was ME ME ME ME ME ME." Yeah, character would repeat that like a child. Also cool idea with sith name. Character will get sith name starting with darth(Nox or Occulus or Imperious, depends on your side(dark, neutral and light) and, from that point npc would have voiced lines with your sith name.

@JourneyTal1 Жыл бұрын
Idk if this has already been explained a hundred times by now but a purple lightsaber speaks to an individual’s moral uncertainty. Most sith actually didn’t like the color as they thought it was insulting to the regular process of getting a traditional sith crystal as well as speaking to the person’s lack of full commitment to the sith teachings or at the very least a lack of full belief/understanding of them. This wasn’t necessarily the case mind you but that’s what the sith thought about the color. Mace Windu uses one because his species comes from a planet that is kinda dark side saturated/his people used the force aggressively. When Mace became a Jedi a large part of his journey was to control that aggressive aspect of himself and not let it turn him to the dark side. He not only did this but he then refined the sith lightsaber form “Juyo” which used rage to fuel overwhelming power and he converted the techniques to allow for power through aggressive focus rather then sheer rage which then became known as “Vapaad”. This form not only was only known by Windu himself but the reason that was the case is cause the aggressive nature of it turned one of his friends, and the fellow Jedi that helped him refined and create the form, to the dark side due to the blurred line in emotions the form brings out in the user.

The problem is it was also an MMO, which should have been the cherry on top except they neglected to give people enough to do at max level. Threre was also no easy way to group up with people for dugeons and you had to stand in town looking for a group, something that felt wildly outdated since most MMO players were spoiled by WoW's group finder. In the end I finished the Jedi Knight main story, went OK that was fun.... uhhhh nothing else to do except level more characters I think I'll just go back to WoW.

The story of the purple light saber is Samuel l Jackson wanted an easier time spotting himself in movie scenes. George Lucas said "yes we can do that, and here is your story explaining it." Mace Windu is a light side (ashla) user but the dark side (Bogan) flows around him. Never a part of him, but working with him and protecting him, always tempting him. Other Jedi who attempted mace windu's style fell to the Darkside. Just before his death Mace Windu came close to discovering the truth that the Jedi were in the wrong to declare themselves the good and the other side the evil. Both sides are meant to be a part of everything. The purple crystals are not actually Kyber crystals but n organic crystal that is drawn to those most in tune with the living force in balance as it should be. A lot of sigh in the ancient past had purple light sabers, as they were at that time not inherently evil, but trying to right an ancient wrong done to them by the Jedi and were far closer to the living force as it should be. Disney may have retconned all of this but I like to pretend it is still in effect to add to the mystic of Mace Windu

You may be interested in the two part "Revenge of the Sith" videos by Darth DuDu. It compiles the sith tale showing where they began and how they devolved into the evil they became.

You do get a different story for each class. My favorite story, and my first character was the Sith Inquisitor (I have played the story 4 times). The graphics in this trailer weren't the best, but it is better in the game. Bounty Hunter is actually my second favorite story!

I don't wanna be a grunt... Many people think that and overlook a trooper. Yes it is simple set up but you have to deal with front lines, deserters, high ranking enemy and friendly generals. It is well done and I enjoyed it even more than Jedi Knight as that class is heavily dealing with destiny. And I like free will. You can choose what crystal you use in your lightsaber so you can be a sith with green blade if you so wish. My Inquisitor is also using purple. Generally it means it is a rare crystal than can handle both light side and dark side. And yes, in the story you can choose if you want to be a light side or dark side character for every class. Light sided Sith might seem like an oxymoron, but they are all about power, no matter where it comes from. If she is strong enough to use lightside and defend herself from any other sith that would take offense at that, she can be whatever she likes. Funny thing is I played her as manipulative, subversive, power hungry careerist, but since dark side mostly devolves into "kill everyone you meet" she ended up being on the light side by accident. Because you can hide the light side and dark side effects in conversation if you want to not be affected by it when choosing what to say or do.

Each class has its own story arc and after that it its a main story for each faction. The class story is a pretty long lasting one and carries thru the main core game but today the games story has expanded beyond that. If you havnt reacted to the trailers to the game I highly suggest it if you can find the originals. They remade them with some new dialog and its not as good imo.

The Imperial Agent trailer is so odd, because the actual story basically makes you feel like James Bond.

The two best storylines are the Stih Inquisitor and Imperial Agent ones. On the Republic side Jedi Knight is not bad followed by Smuggler.

I can speak from legends lore perspective on things (aka not disney). Lightsaber colors. Short version: there are guidelines within the jedi order. Blue are guardians (more warrior-esk and practical), green are consolars (more mysteries and understanding the force), yellow are sentinels (a midway point between the two almost with a focus on being aware of threats and the presence/hunting of the darkside. This is by no means an absolute. Mace Windu: he does indeed know the darkside. In fact his fighting style, vapaad, is one he made himself in cooperation with two other masters: a weequay who joined count dooku during the clone wars being one and his own apprentice, Depa Balaba, being the other. Both of them fell to the darkside. His lightsaber crystal is simply exceptionally rare and does not follow the typical scheme. Sith crystals: disney changed the lore for this and in my opinion for the worse, so I'll stick to legends lore here too. Red crystals occur naturally, but due to sith philosophy never were available in enough numbers to be widely used. To counter this, the sith used their own dark side alchemy to create synthetic crystals, specifically designed with a few nasty surprises. The more high end synthetic crystals can actually screw with other lightsabers not unlike cortosis, a rare mineral that causes lightsabers to shortout when refined to pure, and can endure direct hits when impure, though not as durable as beskar. Younger sith acolytes and apprentices make due with lower grade,looted, smuggled or stolen crystals/sabers, though this depends on time period. Pre "rule of two", it is very much the case. The only other official character to use a violet lightsaber is Darth Revan. Almost all others are red, yellow or orange. One of the most rare crystal types is a Krayt Dragon Pearl, which is supposedly radiant white. I hope you found this brief overview helpful.

The purple lightsaber is usually the one of control of the force, the purple in Samuel Jackson's character is because he was a master of a very dangerous fighting style which gives him a lot of power but brings him very close to the dark side. He was one of the few characters in star wars that was able to control himself from going to the dark side. The purple light saber in the old republic is more iconic to the sith inquisitor because he is cold and calculative, he is less controlled by anger like the sith warrior.

Windu used techniques that steered into the edge of what conservative jedi would consider the Dark Side which is why he used a purple lightsaber (Well that's backwards rationalization worked into canon later and the real reason was because Samuel L was kinda a primadonna and wanted to stick out in the big Episode II battle, they even engraved "BMF" as in bad motherfucker in reference to Pulp Fiction on the saber)

So for one Samuel Jackson got a purple lightsaber because he wanted one lol and two purple is in-between the light and dark side Mace windy used a Force ability that pretty much makes it so that his opponent is fighting himself but for the sith empire purple and red are most commonly sith colors

Colour of the saber doesn't matter. A jedi can have a red saber and sith can have blue sabers. They are not powered by mood crystals even though Disney wants to retcon it so. The colour comes from the crystal in the saber.

I really wish i could've gotten into this game. I just could not get with the controls, they were so wonky to me even for MnK. And no controller support either Also in regards to the sith inquisitor having a purple lightsaber: This game was made before Disney acquired Lucasfilm/Star Wars and changed up the lore. Also this game wasn't made with strictly sticking with George Lucas's Lore either. In official cannon lore, A purple lightsaber signifies a person who ultimately chooses the light but does tap into the dark side, but in a very controlled sense. Very few lightside force users can do this without falling this is why it is a rare color to see. In Mace's case, he actually can turn a Darkside user's power against them, this is why he was so strong against Palpatine. This game however, in fact the entire Old Republic series has its own loose lore. Where colors meant something a little different Red and purple were both just flat out dark side colors, one signifying a more focus on combat (red/sith warrior), while the other focused more on aspects of the force (purple/sith inquisitor). And for the Jedi: Green =Jedi Counselor (focused more on the force Blue= Jedi Guardian (focused more on combat) Yellow = Jedi Sentinel (a bit of a balance of force and combat)

You should definitely watch the predecessor to this game, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. The first one is one of my favorite games of all time. They're also doing a remake for the first one, although that's not coming out anytime soon since they switched studios a year ago. Sith Inquisitor (light Side) has the most interesting storyline. Some say that Imperial agent is best, well i dont like gunners (killed them alot in warzones, if there 5 force users and 1 gunner i go for the gunner. That is STAR WARS not Counter-Strike !) I play the game almost 12 years so really dont like them. Expecially agents (cowards by my opinion).
@Sherudons Жыл бұрын
Just a shame star wars has gone in such an aids direction, a perfect platform in a world of told stories that you could have launched dozens of directors on and they settled for setting it on fire, spitting on the fans and declaring the force is female... Still, this game was rather good, inquisitor and agent I think did the best stories, but I only played bits and pieces of the rest.
