if we would live in a normal world, indie games would purge aaa games in the future with tools like unreal. but there are some agendas that wont allow that. we will see a destruction of creative enhancing tools the next years. adobe and unity laid a good start for that. be ready for the nwo.

It is, but sadly in the past 10+ years there hasn't really been a single MMORPG that really made any strides. Even games like New World are niche at best. Only things that are coming out are eastern MMO's which are good looking to be sure but that is their only positive since they are riddled with MTX, insane grinds and horrid mobile features which for some reason easterners seem to enjoy but these almost never do well in the west for obvious reasons. When was the last time that a western company even released a good MMORPG in recent years? I honestly can't remember a single one except New World, which didn't do that well either. Only western MMORPG's that are doing somewhat well are all 10+ years old at this point

Same here, but only for a few days than a few months. As he said, the combat is kind of slow and clunky, I am surprised they didn't update that thing for a decade now. If they did update the combat and made it more active, versatile and more within the Force users and Non-Force users acrobatics, this game would actually gather 100k players back. Updated combat system and graphics is what they need to make this game a golden gem once more.

SWTOR’s biggest strength, I think, is its ability to immerse the player which MMOs nowadays seem to lack.
@MyN0N4M3
@MyN0N4M3 3 ай бұрын
It was its biggest strength and sure good writing, cutscenes, ability to choose different outcomes etc etc. But best and most immersive thing was that you weren't the chose hero that was known throughout the galaxy and everyone bowed before you. You were an Imperial Soldier or agent, Sith apprentice etc. you had mentors, friends, superiors and it wasnt all about you. That is when the game was at its best, the most immersive. The moment you became ruler of the known galaxy (quite literally) immersion kind of went out the window as well.

I used to play this game with my little brother together, he was 13 at the time and now he is 17. Sadly, it was the last game we played together before we got separated because of family problems. He played a sith inquisitor and I played a sith warrior. It was a really memorable experience around 200 hrs of playtime. There were days we would both play the game around 15 hrs a day just to cope with all the chaos that surrounded our family. Slept late and woke up late and ate together. We would choose the light side path even though we were siths. Played all of the expansions together. The combat was indeed clunky and we both wished that the graphics would get an overhaul. But the story was amazing and heartfelt. I miss my little brother, i miss playing this game with him and running around the galaxy together. I hope that one day, both him and I could play games together again even though we both will get older by the time we meet again and life has brought us both on different paths. I just hope he would be interested on that day.

If you're reading this and wonder if you should TRY swtor -> Yes. - EIGHT different Character Stories with different Voice Actors - TWO FREE Expansions, one of them being a Community favorite (not to mention the Base Story for every Class that's different from each other) - Subbing is OPTIONAL but if you do, you get all up to date Expansions added to it and they WILL remain after the sub runs out. NO SUB NEEDED to play afterwards! - It's worth every second to just try it out. Choose one of the more active Servers (Darth Malgus for EU - Satele Shan or Star Forge for US) and play it.

As weird as it is to say, this is the best single player MMO of all time. The class storylines alone are hundreds of hours of content. The quests are all voice acted, many cutscenes for people who enjoy that (can be skipped if not), ability to choose answers and it actually effects gameplay (feels very immersive for an MMO). I've gone back to this game at least 5 times since it launched and I have a blast every time. A lot of boomers love this game, just like WoW I don't think this game will ever truly die, even if one of these years the official servers go offline, people will still play it on private servers.

Your analysis is spot on. It's not reliant on things other MMO's need to be successful. There are amazing Final Fantasy 14 level storylines in this game that don't need other players to accomplish. The storylines in this MMO are amazing. Even the weakest class storylines in SWTOR are still intriguing.

(Been playing this off/on since the beginning) Do yourself a favor😁: 1) Go into abilities toggle on sprint, then forget about it. 2) In combat (especially melee) Turn on auto-target (preferably just in front or to preference.. just be careful w/late-game flashpoints/raids). You won't need to tab target much after😉 3) Try not to judge the game/fighting speed based on a low character. You will be MUCH slower. They've made changes to combat speed in the past and Later lvls/passives will have you fight Extremely fast!😁 I.E. I feel like a crazed cartoon tasmanian devil on my later meleers🤣 4) At least update your weapons every so often. 5) Companions.. Try different ones and see if you prefer a closer non-ranged companion or ranged. Experiment with Heals/Dps/Tank modes of those companions. Then level them up for Power! (Some comp's in this game are better than others for some things, but you don't need to worry about it in this game. It's easy enough) 6) Don't forget the legacy system to unlock acct wide, etc.. perks. 7) Have Fun! (edited for Legacy)

Kinda like Starkiller, just missing a hood imo...They also added the mandalorian's armor, was sad that the jetpack wasn't built into the armor for jet boost legacy unlock but whatever, they used the opportunity to split it into 2 items, a jetpack mount and armor, they'll leach on anything disney star wars comes out with. Oh my, i don't even remember when i started playing swtor. It was 2 or 3 months after the release. I managed to be active until 2022-ish. Many accounts with platinum and gold pvp rank, countless hours on Fleets just talking, having fun with other people, creating friendships. Spending time like crazy just talking about everything, actually. My thoughts are still on swtor and the old people who where there with me. I know, nowadays ain't like it was then. The game is abandoned and as far as I know toxicity is getting worse and worse. Also, except that there's almost zero veterans there, I have nothing to do in game since they remove ranked pvp. Swtor for me ( and other veterans ) was a huge travel. And even if we wanted to join back and be like we used to be it's impossible cause we started swtor mostly as high school students - with so much free time - and now we are engineers or scientists or whatever with very few free hours per day. But still, we would noticed that old times are gone for not good . . . The magic of swtor is dead and we died with it. But our memories are still there~

I still play once in a while. The biggest difference with combat between SWToR and WoW that might need some getting used to is: in SWToR, there is no auto-attack. Every attack you perform is an ability you must actively choose. This can make the combat seem clunky but it is only as clunky as the amount of time between your GCD and your reflexes.
@chaost4544
@chaost4544 16 күн бұрын
SWTOR has one of most fun and satisfying MMO combat systems IMO. Because it isn't autoplay, the skills you're using feel extremely satisfying. There is something amazing about a Sith warrior/sorcerer going into the field of battle and completely bending everyone to your will depending on the skills you use. The animations look like you're dominating a battlefield which is expected of a Sith or Jedi. The satisfaction of brutality is something that isn't experienced in a lot of MMO's.

I've played this game for a bit and done a few classes' stories. I wanted to play it mainly for the story and the experience I got was pretty decent and sometimes even above average. I won't go into detail about which story is better, but I will mention the reason why I stopped playing. It's tedious. I don't mind going from point A to point B. In fact, it's pretty standard in MMOs and I've finished FF14's story, so I don't really mind. What I do mind, however, is the NPCs. In the beginning, they are easy to kill and not annoying at all. Then, as you go through the story, you start being underleveled and it becomes such a chore. Not only are they harder to kill now, but they are also placed strategically to block every single path so you can't avoid them. And the worst part? You get thrown off your mount if they detect you. This is annoying as shit and it makes questing become frustrating. You have to fight packs of these mobs just to get from objective A to objective B. Or spend more time finding a way to get around their aggro. It's just shit. For a game that is heavily focused on story, forcing people to fight non-stop is such a lame thing to do. This is why I couldn't continue playing it. One day, I thought "ugh... I have to go to the next quest objective", then questioned what the hell I was doing since I wasn't even having fun anymore and ultimately uninstalled.
@JustaFairyStory
@JustaFairyStory 3 ай бұрын
The one way to get around the enemy agro is to play on a stealth character. It is repetitive and tedious but eventually, there’s a lot of other things this game offers than your linear or basic story missions. The thing is, a lot of the content made about the game from veteran players isn’t that accessible to newbies. There’s definitely some great info out there, but there is a since of intimidation when you’re trying to level the first couple of characters and get past those first planets. The story feels like it goes on for ever. And that’s because there’s a lot of it. And because there’s a lot of it, that doesn’t mean it’s all good. Eventually, you have to break away from your story missions and just go explore, and make it your own adventure and set your own personal goals. While the class stories have some of the best story content in the game, I’ve never found myself able to power through them without switching to another character or taking a break. Because it is super repetitive. And especially early on when you don’t have a mount or can’t move as quickly, it’s almost painful.

I used to play this game pretty regularly. I remember waiting for my early release pass and I've been playing that character ever since, plus lots of new ones since. I'd give it a break here and there for a few months, usually when a different game came out and my time was taken by that but I'd always come back. That said, it's been over a year since I've played it now. Since then, I've played Starfield, BG3, the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion and Stellar Blade. Having beat all those games now, I might give it a month subscription just to see if still has any fun factor left. See if it still feel like Star Wars since Disney seems to be struggling in that aspect.

Not to mention the class balance changes have been questionable at best. However, I still love the game and foresee myself playing it for years to come. And everything cool that was coming out was locked in a cash shop. It became free to play, but if you went free to play they made your quality of life artificially aggravating. I lost access to half of my characters. I was limited on how many credits I could have. They did a server merger while I was away and I lost the names to three of my favorite characters to people who never logged in again after. So I just called it done. It was a fun ride early on. If you haven't played the 8 character archtype stories, Imperial Agent and Sith Inquisitor are by far the coolest... several of the others were good. They all had great moments. Play that part of the game at least.

I bought the game before release and got the founder’s title but never really played it. Until now. It arguably has the most immersive story telling of any mmo (including ff14) with it’s fully voice acted cutscenes. And it seems they’ve added a ton of new UI updates. And it’s now FREE. It’s actually wild.

Working on end game gearing atm and having a lot of fun and dreaming about Mandalorian, Ahsoka cosmetics. (Exchance rates are wild in my country :/) I recommend give a try if u like SW and MMORPG's. PS: After KOTFE-KOTET expansions , enviroment and gear graphics are much more better than original planets. They updated some planets graphics also. Returners: Gearing is much more less complicated than before.

Been playing swtor since it became f2p, it's definitely not what it used to be endgame wise, but the sheer amount of content and story that's given to you for free is crazy! Always recommend this game to players looking to kill time. I'd say give endgame a try too.. however they HEAVILY nerfed the entry level raids but kept the same harder difficulties for higher rates raids.. so it's a big jump going from SM to HM than it is from HM to NiM.. for those raids that have a NiM difficulty. Still fun though if you want to put the time too it. Lots of good guilds out there that have different focuses (endgame, rp, conquest farming, PvP etc) game isn't dead, just isn't what it used to be

If you’re a Star Wars fan, definitely check it out. The game has its imperfections and everyone has their preferences, but this game is a one way ticket to that 2000’s era of expanded universe content, where sure, people still argued about Star Wars, but everyone thought Revan was cool, the Clone Wars was going strong, and the content that was still (mostly) guaranteed to feel like Star Wars. Basically it’s very escapist and makes me feel like a kid who could love everything with the Star Wars logo on it again.

One the 'Founder' titled players of the game and still playing but I play others too. Notably FFXIV of late. Although critique of Dawntrail recently is well known on the narrative front, I didn't really bash the game in that sense. It merely highlighted what a joy the original Bioware creation was here and of course the class stories are well known in SWTOR. The IP alone certainly carries weight. Most of the top ranked titles can claim that to some degree. From WoW to ESO and beyond. But there's a certain love, beyond the clank, that remains. In many ways I don't even dislike the combat, as someone who likes faster paced PvP gameplay historically - often in Korean driven MMOs with a focus on it - I find SWTORs is part nostalgia and part joy at continuation of the KOTOR era stylization and how familiar it feels instead. The team may not have the luxury of the budget they once did but there's a real desire to see the game recover and thrive, no matter how difficult an ask that is in the current world rushing by. People would do well to note the continued passion of people like Swtorista and the forums are alive with criticism and hopes for improvement. Not only a good sign but interesting in that Broadsword has long been considered a holding company where games go to die. Instead it would seem that many of the former staff are wanting to see the game thrive. Content might indeed drip at times rather than flow - but in light of everything you've described here yourself. It's far from done as a game. And people are glad of that. Those who haven't played it have no excuse to avoid the original experience. They are some of the best stories Bioware ever produced.

The best part is that if you ever spend money - and DO this - for even a month, you permanently unlock a wide range of slots and upgrades and so on for your account. One month, free from then on. It's popular for the same reason WoW is - it's a simple interface and the devs put time into it. Plus, the story lines are very good, with professional voice actors. And the lore is consistent with the old universe (as well as SWTOR 1 and 2 ) - none of this new Disney era B.S. This dramatically alters the way the Force and factions work and feels "correct", especially when you deal with questions about morality. My ONLY gripe is that the game engine is really not designed for multi-player parties like many other MMOs. You both kind of do your solo quests in parallel and sync via chat, with the other person basically helping with combat a bit. WoW handles this superbly, by comparison.

I’ve played this game off and on around real life for 3 1/2 years, and I STILL feel like a new player. This game is so dense and overwhelming to people like me who aren’t really “gamers” and haven’t been playing since launch. I know this game does need to better story content with new updates and to treat its veteran players better. However, I think the overall negative commentary about the game and the claims that it’s dying is… only accelerating the potential downfall. I feel very alienated by some of that content. There is an active community around this game, which is overall positive, and it is worth new players joining and checking out. Criticisms towards the leadership are probably very valid, it’s important to highlight problems and issues. But I think the KZbin thumbnails that may not even advertise a completely negative take on the game, create this overall atmosphere. If we want the game to live on, telling new players they shouldn’t play because the endgame content is lackluster to some doesn’t seem like the most effective way to boost the numbers. And look, being honest is important, people making the type of content explaining the game or the inevitable “Is game worth checking out in current year?” Should set proper expectations and give those fair warnings and critiques. And in fairness, I don’t want this to sound like an overreaction, because even videos with a lot of criticisms aren’t actually that negative and typically the people making them want the game to keep going strong. And if you’ve played the game for a decade and don’t see a reason to play anymore, then that’s fine. You played a game for ten years of your life. People don’t have to play things they are not longer interested and they shouldn’t. I guess what I’m trying to do is urge long time players to be careful not to drive new or potential players away from the game, because it does have a lot to offer. It’s also nice to pretend to escape to an era of Star Wars content where you can pretend like the Star Wars fandom is still a nice thing to participate in. (If it ever was in the first place, lol) If you’re a Star Wars fan that misses content that “feel like Star Wars” whatever that feeling is to you, this game probably has it.

When Broadsword bought Swtor so many people thought it was going into Maintenace mode starting Nov 10th, 2023. Well seeing the amount of content that has been added to Swtor over the course of 8 months it is safe to say that Swtor is not dead and while it may not get back to launch numbers it is going to grow for years to come. Would it be nice to have some of the restrictions on the different account types removed yes but that may not happen. It would also benefit greatly from an engine upgrade which in turn would allow better graphics and improved combat systems but again it may not happen at least for the combat system. As for when I last played it would have been one month before 7.4 was announced. I will go back when more story is added that way I don't run out of content for a while. I'll probably return when they release 7.6.

Played it when it came out. Remember playing Jedi embassador. Incredibly boring story line. Really hated it. During this time developers constantly asked for feedback. Within that they always wanted to know how it compared to WOW. Never played WOW and at that time WOW there were quite a few MMO trying to figure out how game mechanics can be improved to give a better feel to the game. None of that was part of the considerations by the devs. I ended up playing GuildWars II, which I thought was way more innovative at the time. I quite MMO several years ago and went to more casual mobile games. Had better experiences with guilds there even playing progress than with the community at the beginning of STWTOR. Also no comparison with BioWares Star Wars Knights of theThe Old Republic, which I still play from time to time as an mobile app on my ipad. Happy for those who still enjoy it. As you can tell from my comment I am still holding on to a grudge. Outdated game mechanics even when it came out, bad story lines and bioware selling out with its founders taking the money and creatively checking out. Really miss those days of incredibly good rpg (but also do not really play that much anymore)

Easily one of my favourite MMO, I still even have the game box from launch. My main hinderance to maining SWTOR is EA, I simply don't trust them to maintain an MMO. They shut down Warhammer: Age of Reckoning because it's it was more convenient than putting in extra time to fix bugs. Compare that to Square Enix and that relaunched FF14 because they believed in their IP.

Let's put numbers in perspective. SWTOR has an average daily player count of roughly 13.4K... that's DAILY. While DCUO has roughly 250 total daily players... and Daybreak considers DCUO to be it's most lucrative game, and they recently released a PS5 version as well. So if DCUO can survive with only 250 daily players, I think SWTOR has quite a bit of longevity left with 13.4K daily players.

Ive played GW2 the most but for me its the fact that it doesnt have a gear treadmill that fails it. I know alot wont agree with that statement as GW2 does have a very good horizontal progression system. Sadly I just havent found interest in it. I have started FF14 over the last 2 months and have to admit its the most polished mmo ive played, ive stopped for a little while as I enjoy swtor alot more and having a good time on that currently. I hope SWTOR will get better content in the future too but seems a bit doubtful with the small team at broadsword.
