Yeah, I think they cut off a bit early; while we might way to wait on discussing authors works for whom the author is still writing new books; series likes Hitchhiker's Guide; Pern; and even (sadly due to his recent death a couple years back) Disc World would be great for a future season and wouldn't need to wait a decade if it focused on the early books within the series.

It's a shame that you guys stopped doing this series. I've tried looking and there's nothing else quite like your dive into the history, timelines, and influence of the genra. While I left because of some decisions you have made clear in previous videos, this series was always brought me back. After getting a job as a librarian I came back to brush up on it and record books and authors for future reference. I do hope you guys decide to start this again, I was so looking forward to an episode on Gene Wolfe.

+1 for the Ender Saga (and Shadow Saga). I can also recommend pretty much anything by Stanislaw Lem (they showed some of his books but never mentioned him). I don't think Solaris is his best work, though - it is only the most well known because of the two movies. If you're looking for something to get started on him, I'd pick up "The Star Diaries", "Fables for Robots" or "The Cyberiad" if you like lighthearted short stories, pretty much any of the novels (like "Eden" or "Fiasco") for more classic SciFi, "Memoirs Found in a Bathtub" for Kafkaesque dystopia and "Golem XIV" for deep philosophy. (he also has some short stories that are mostly making fun of mismanagement in the Soviet Union, like "Invasion from Aldebaran" and "The Usefulness of the Dragon")

You rekindled my love for Mary Shelley and you got me to finally read Paradise Lost, another of the most important things I've read. My only regret is that you never mentioned Clifford Simak or City, (there might have been a visual reference but i don't recall) and I sincerely hope that James reads it if he hasn't because it is one of the most moving works of classic sci fi I've ever encountered. You're forgetting early 90s to 2000s, great works like starplex, which is a union between the old philosophy sci-fi with modern down to earth, and Ender's game, even used as a way to train air force pilots as a recommended reading. Take a risk, but it's been almost thirty years, we have good ideas of the impacts of some work, predicting technology or having a role in our world XD.

If anyone is looking for some sci fi to read, I suggest the Wind-Up Girl. Its quite relevant - especially as we listen to news about the coronavirus in China. I've also read Never Let Me Go, which I can also recommend. Keep in mind its very low sci-fi, and more focused on the emotional journey of its characters, so it won't scratch that itch if you're looking for cool future tech or speculative fiction. Both these recommendations are classified as biopunk, which is my current favorite subgenre in science fiction.

in 5:04, the kid's Tie fighter's wings is a square. BUt in the movies and films the wings are a hexagon.

I was so excited to see the Lois McMaster Bujold book in the very first episode of Extra Sci Fi in the slide reused in this episode at 5:27 and now i'm sad that she never got covered before the end =/ I hope if "Extra Literature" does happen at some point that she'll be discussed then.

Extra Literature sound amazing! It could cover anything form Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere to Homer and Virgil (even though the last two are close to Extra Mythology)!

I would love an Extra Sci-Fi episode on Final Fantasy VII. Not just a masterpiece in so many ways, but also so influential for the whole genre, and such a big part of so many of us' childhoods. You could brand it as an Extra Credits episode if you're really done with Extra Sci-Fi for now.
