I'm under the impression Adam is portraying Ben under a newborn baby's mindset, like after his redemption Ben Solo experiences a complete personality clean slate, reduced to only his natural self. Which is really sad because he never got to really live, all his life has been nothing but suffering, abandonment and manipulation.

My goodness, I teared up when he said that. Adam Driver gave it his all, and that is totally obvious on screen. Ben truly makes you feel all the agony he was going through until this scene. I believe that both the dark and the light sides are paths to power. The dark side is actually easier to access, because anger, hate, and fear are so common. However, only those on the light side can truly be content or at peace. Ben clearly feels this at the end of tRoS, and Adam Driver did a fantastic job portraying it.

@@miriamfratianni645 They showed us Palpatine's son (Rey's dad) very briefly in TROS. If it were me...that son would be been the antagonist from the get go. Wanting revenge on the Skywalker line for what they did to him and his family. Wanting to get Rey and use her to help bring back honor (in his mind) to the family. Even wanting to resurrect his father (Darth Sidious), since Palpatine himself was in the story anyway. That way, there would have been no need for Snoke or even for Kylo Ren. Ben Solo could have been Ben Solo throughout the story. Alternatively, if Kylo Ren "had" to be there, they could have re-written the opening Jakku attack so that Kylo Ren kills Lor San Tekka (for mentioning the family that Kylo felt abandoned and denied him).... But then, since Kylo has the information he wants (the location of the map to Skywalker), he refuses to kill the villagers, declares himself Ben Solo and escapes from the First Order by force. He would want the map to Skywalker so he could find his uncle and ask why Luke had wanted to kill him. When Luke mentions seeing darkness, Ben could open up and show him the things in his own mind.... Luke would recognize the "touch" of an old enemy (Palpatine) that had haunted and tortured Ben since he was a baby: Luke: Ben.... I'm so sorry... Ben: I know. I'm sorry too. I should have said something. I tried. I didn't think you'd believe me. They didn't believe me either.

Rossi.....actually if JJ & Rian could have just came *together* and formulated a plan for the second movie, then it would have been better if Snoke was kept alive until the end of the movie where it would have been revealed that Palpatine was alive THEN let Palpatine deal the death blow to Snoke for ''no longer being any use to him'', it would have been the biggest reveal in Star Wars history in par with ''Darth Vader's reveal to Luke''. That way during the Throne Room scene in Last Jedi, it could have been written that ''Kylo Ren decided to go with Rey'', not to join the Resistance but join *her* ....and THAT would have started his path to being Ben Solo by the time TROS came around.

One thing that really hits me is just how much passion you can see from Adam here. The Disney treatment to Ben Solo is almost like his character in-universe, keeps being abandonded and tossed aside. And Adam portrays him with such thought and depth, he got me hooked and wanting to know more about Ben as a person, on a character level. Judging by the comments, I seem to be the only one who loved Kylo/Ben's entire arc through these movies. Yes, it's sad that he died, and I HATE that no one mourned him, but that doesn't negate how meaningful and powerful it is that this person who had felt so lost and hopeless his entire life, and who had done so many bad things, finally made the right decision and did everything he could to try and make up for what he'd done. He finally found his true purpose and became the man he was always meant to be, and he finally got to experience love and happiness, even if it was only for a few moments. I personally found his arc really beautiful and satisfying, and though I understand why many fans are upset, I think focusing on his death to the exclusion of all else is more of a disservice to his character than killing him off was. Sorry if all that came off as patronizing, but I'm tired of clicking on anything Star Wars related and seeing nothing but negativity. Like I said, as sad as his death is, and as much as I would've loved to spend more time with Ben Solo, he redeemed himself and made the ultimate sacrifice, for both Rey and the galaxy, and in so doing, "finished what Vader started" by doing what Anakin couldn't: save the woman he loved. Now he's one with the Force, and will always be with Rey. And that's beautiful, even if it's not the ending I wanted for him. His journey from darkness to light, hopelessness to "someone who has hope," is really inspiring to me, and gives me hope that I can also turn my life around and discover who I'm supposed to be and what I'm supposed to do. I wish I could find people to discuss the positives of his arc instead of everyone just complaining about his death.

Is t it amazing how much hope can change a person. Even without any dialogue it is apparent that Ben is a different person. He seems free. And it was also beautiful to see Rey so ready to accept him. I purposefully avoided all ROS videos before seeing the movie to avoid spoilers. I left the theater feeling thrilled about the movie. I was sad that Ben died but still happy that he turned and that we got to meet him. I also appreciate how Adam’s performance drew me in. I cared about what happened to Kylo/Ben and Rey. I thought it was a good movie. Then I got on KZbin and quickly discovered people complaining about it. Would I have also liked a different ending? Yes. But I really appreciate what I saw.

Adam did such an amazing job at portraying the difference between Kylo and Ben without a single word (unless you count "ow"), and I'm so glad we got to spend some time with Ben before he died.

I pretty much agree. I would love to see something with him as a force ghost or something, but his arc was breathtaking. I don't think he was unmourned at all. It's obvious by the way that Rey took the Skywalker name that she carries Ben's spirit in her heart if nothing else, that she wishes, like the rest of us, that he could have lived, but also knows better than any of us that it wouldn't have worked in reality, so she carries everything he gave her, the good and bad.

We needed more of Ben Solo, he was the son of Leia and Han whom we loved as characters since we were kids, many of us grew up imagining how their kids would be like, how they would evolve in hypothetical films (not books or comics), you gave us Ben, the only child and sole heir from the Skywalker bloodline, he was portrayed so well by Adam Driver, Ben is brave, kind, remorseful, selfless and caring, the contrary of Kylo Ren and then Ben dies... leaving all his potential and other possible endings with Rey there, it's hard 😟.

Adam did say in one interview that he would like a Ben Solo story to show his history and explore what happened from his point of view. It would be nice if they would do some of those kind of movies, to show us more in depth of some of the characters and their backstories

I've heard that apparently the name was only to throw people off, and didn't actually mean anything to the story. After this trilogy I really don't trust Disney's marketing when it comes to Star Wars, they constantly lied or manipulated thing's in there promo's for the films. The ending just left me with a feeling of, "What was the point?" They're all dead and a scavenger girl stole there family name. That's not hopeful, unlike what JJ thought.

It's funny how most people is referring to Ben as the last Skywalker while he is actually Solo. In my opinion (which seems to be the least popular kind right now) Rey is the true last Skywalker even if the makers themselves didn't try to mean it that way. Answer me Who was the first Skywalker? That orphan slave boy from that desert planet who was strong with the force and was meant to bring the balance back? Sounds familiar? I have nothing against the naming of the movie. My problem is with the ending of the very precious characters such as Han Solo, Leia, Ben. I also never liked how Luke was portraited in the sequels. All of it could be so much better. I I am reaching here because all of the previously established trajectories and themes are dashed by this ending. We could argue that this is a self-sacrifice to save what you love theme point. Which is fine, but like, no one mourns. He doesn’t become a Force Ghost. No one acknowledges his death. Ben fading into the Force is a metaphor for him fading from people’s minds. It’s like he doesn’t even exist in the context of the story anymore. Which is insanely baffling because all three of the original trilogy heroes sacrificed their lives, at least in part, to save Ben Solo. So that he could in turn save Rey? So he’s just another cog in the machine? This was always about Rey and never about the love Han and Leia had for their son, or that Luke had for his nephew? If you think about it, the only other ‘main’ characters to die during the course of their trilogy were Qui-gon and Padme. And both of those characters had funerals, and people mourning, and huge narrative implications. The death of Ben Solo reads like the death of a minor character. It serves one very narrow and already over-represented theme. The death of all of the rest of the Skywalkers had huge emotional ramifications for the other characters in the films. With Ben Solo, the Skywalker legacy fades as well, as if JJ is telling us that this saga was not about this family at all, but their whole story existed only for the point of saving Palpatine’s granddaughter. How fucked up is that?

Damn, you don't seem to get the movie like at all. It was solely Ben's choice to sacrifice himself, just like Anakin, Luke and Leia before him to save the people they loved. It's the most Jedi thing you can do and it makes perfect sense. Nobody mourned for him because all the people that knew and loved him are dead as well, except for Rey. And part of him lives on in Rey, like Luke said, a thousand generations live in her now. I guess Ben makes a thousand and one. Ben turned into a Force ghost, and he will always be with her. THE END

@@Ollision He didn't turn into a Force Ghost though. The novelization says he speaks to Rey through the Force ("I will always be with you.") The Jedi Texts and the TROS Visual Dictionary make mention of the World Between Worlds. Also a part of the Force. Both Ahch-To (light) and Exegol (dark) were doors to it. Ben can be "in" the Force but if they had wanted to tell us point blank that he was now a Force Ghost like Luke, we would have seen him as a Force Ghost onscreen like his mother and his uncle. Ezra Bridger had been to the World Between Worlds and came through it to save Ahsoka Tano from Darth Vader. Ben can be alive there. Either seeking to get out and find his way back to Rey, or waiting for her to come to him and bring him back out.

I don't want a novel or TV series to explain me what the movie doesn't. And what you just described makes things unnecessarily complicated in my book. The movie, to me, at least leaves open if Ben will appear to Rey at some point. Remember, Ben Kenobi spoke to Luke as well, seconds after he became one with the Force. That didn't mean he couldn't appear to him on Hoth, Dagobah and Endor.

What pisses me off the MOST is that they talk about how although we didn't have Ben for long, you can see the potential for who he could have been. Ben should have been the one to kill Palpatine. He should have been the one to "rise" as the title states. Think of how awesome it would have been to have Anakin appear to him, and tell him to finish what he had started: the fall of the Empire. With that, Ben would have finally finished it. Reducing the Emperor to atoms.

3:35 was the biggest let down of all time for me. I thought it would’ve been cool for them to fight side by side for once, a Skywalker/Solo and a Palpatine would have been something that worked along the lines that love is more powerful than hate, and that where you come from isn’t important, but it’s who you grow to be. But instead they had palpatine suck out their “dyad power,” throw Ben into a pit to be ignored by all the Jedi who are apparently watching, and then for Rey to recover and have all the Jedi stand behind her for a double lightsaber force Kamehameha... that she then dies from? And then the Jedi are nowhere to be found? Not to mention... Palpatine says if he is killed he will take over Rey as a host, but then this is totally disregarded when Rey deflects his force lightning and kills him? I dunno. To each their own, and no hate if you do enjoy this movie because I wish I did, but the shoehorning of Palpatine and Rey’s lineage in this movie ruined the sequels for me.

This film should have been called 'Return of the Sith'. Palpatine said it for a start. RoS is the third movie of it's trilogy. Revenge *of the Sith* was also a third movie of a trilogy. So was *Return* of the Jedi. George Lucas says it's like poetry because it rhymes.

@@meenalrai9961 Me too. Her being a Palpatine fits neatly into Disney princesses narrative of regal bloodlines and being "worthy" of powers, happy endings and so on. I find it more beautiful, hopeful and uplifting that an ordinary girl can be such a strong force user. Like Qui-Gon Jinn found Anakin who was a "nobody". Like that kid with the broom in the end of The Last Jedi. It wouldn't have taken away anything from Reys story if she was the same. An unknown girl having a dyad, strong forcebond, with Ben Solo a third generation of strong Jedi sounds really cool to explore. Like how did that happen.

They tried to represent the mother-son relationship that we saw in the last jedi(when his mother s ship is about to be shooted). As if she waited for him. Waited for Ben. Not for Kylo Ren. For her son.

I saw it as her waiting to make sure her son came back to the Light, and then accompanying him to the afterlife when he died so he wouldn't be alone. Not all Jedi's bodies disappear when they die (Anakin's and Qui-Gon's didn't), so there doesn't seem to be a hard and fast rule about if/when they disappear, it's more what makes for an emotional story.

When I knew Leia was dying I was completely lost to why I thought she was going to sacrifice herself to save Ben. Movie didn't do the greatest job depicting she was dying from using the force in space in E8. I wanted to see her Astro project like Luke did and tell Ben it's okay to let go not just say Ben then pass unexpectedly.

Chris Terrio just confirmed that originally Palpatine was supposed to know about the dyad and tells Kylo about it. This would’ve made so much more sense as the dyad coming together would result in his return to strength, I wish they kept it like that tbh.

MP so sad. He never got to actually be with her so all he had was one kiss. What a lonely life he’s had. Grew up with parents who were too busy. Never had a wife or a girlfriend. His one love was a woman who literally fought him and ran from him for most of their relationship.

@@lilsteez8219 The fact Ben was influenced by Snoke from before he was born isn't something Cheryl Land (in comment above) is pulling from nowhere. It's canon and therefore a fact. Leia could sense it even before Ben was born and that was one reason she wanted Luke to train him personally from a young age. I would argue that Anakin made a choice even if it was influenced by others. Ben was brainwashed starting from the womb. If you google and read about it you can get more or better quotes I'm sure, but like I said it's canon. One example below: A conversation between Han and Leia from the The Force Awakens novel: "He had trouble believing what he was hearing. "So Snoke was watching our son." "Always," she told him. "From the shadows, in the beginning, even before I realized what was happening, he was manipulating everything, pulling our son towards the dark side."

I never had a choice.” He says that he had both great good and great evil in his family, and he had been chosen for both. His name, even, was the name of a great Jedi master. Anakin was lead to the dark side by hand. Ben was dragged kicking and screaming.
