"their Rule against Marriage made it almost completely impossible for any super special Bloodlines to develop." The Jedi rule against marriage is about attachment, not celibacy. It's implied most of the Jedi had physical relationships of some kind (Even Obi-Wan has a kind-of girlfriend in Clone Wars). So there would still, most likely, be plenty of Jedi-descended kids. Furthermore, the Prequels still had the dumb idea of Midichlorians. What I liked about TLJ is it never once brought up such a concept. It was all about faith and soul, not blood. Bringing the Force back to the spiritual concepts Lucas had in the OG film and the spiritual concepts that inspired him. And then this movie, almost as if bowing to the people who threw fits about Rey being "too powerful", made it all about the blood again. Rey must only be powerful because of her bloodline.
@johannesseyfried793310 ай бұрын
@@northwindkey Which is equally silly. But Rey getting so strong so quickly still needed an explanation. I could have excepted the "she downloaded Kylos memories" explanation from the book, but that was never brought up in TLJ.

Mike, I know you're a huge Star Wars fan, so maybe you can answer this for me. In The Phantom Menace, it is shown that Anakin built and programmed C-3PO. If that's the case, how does C-3PO know the ancient Sith language? I find it hard to believe that an 8-year-old kid knows something this arcane, so he couldn't have programmed it into C-3PO. So where does this knowledge of the Sith language come from?

The Rule of Two is incredibly recent, there used to be thousands of years old Sith Empires. And Exegol is supposedly a repository of lore/power from the ancient sith. I only quite liked it ;) Actually, i did enjoy this movie a lot. Yes, there was a lot in this movie that was just wrong, my eyes were rolling at the first line of the title crawl but despite all of the lore breaking and poor story telling choices I found this movie quite enjoyable. It's not a good move, certainly not a good Star Wars film (Rogue One raised my hopes mightily but then ep 8 crushed them down) but... I liked it. Speaking of episode 8, watching it the second time I genuinely considered walking out the cinema half way thru. This was the first time I've ever felt this way in a cinema. This really is a movie that got screwed on all sides. They started with a great script from Collin Treverrow, but it was so dark that Disney would never greenlight it (And the fans who hated TLJ would probably hate it too because it was very much continuing that film's ideas). It was a script that did tie the trilogy together. Revealing that the setups in TFA were always misdirections rather than setups, and that there was a secret story being told across the three that we didn't even know. But again, it was too dark and beyond that, Disney wanted a film that could tie together the entire saga, not just the ST. So Collin got booted in September 2017 after subsequent rewrites got weaker and weaker. JJ and Terrio come on board, and for three months they pattern their new story as a return to the familiar world of SW after TLJ's detour into the unfamiliar and bold. But, I would venture, those early drafts were more calculated returns and were less sharp ret-cons of TLJ. After all, JJ and Rian have never had any actual beef as much as the fans want there to be. It's also plenty possible that Palpetine was not a part of those early drafts, there were a lot of rumors about the Son of Mortis being the main villain which would've been interesting. But ultimately, JJ and Chris' story which, while not as bold as Treverrow's, still could've been interesting still ended up getting screwed over by outside factors: 1. The fact that since this was a trilogy and Disney didn't want to break that dynamic, it had to be all one film when this plot really needed a lot more time to simmer in. 2. That TLJ was so divisive and harshly received by fans that more calculated arcs from TLJ had to be replaced with sharp ret-cons and even force-in lines specifically mocking TLJ just to placate fans. 3. That, since TLJ was criticized for being too long, this couldn't even be a 3+ hour LOTR style finale like it clearly needed to be, it had to all be rushed in 143 minutes. It's why the film jumps so frequently from beat to beat without any flow, because it's cramming in what clearly needed 180+ minutes to actually flesh out into 143 minutes. I think my point is, there's no one person to blame for this film. Kennedy is to blame for not letting Collin do his thing, JJ is to blame for his over-empahsis on nostalgia, Bob Iger is to blame for putting way too much pressure on the film after TLJ (He actually bypassed Kennedy and took control of the film himself accordiing to reports), and frankly, the fans are to blame for the tantrums over TLJ being a big factor in ths film's downfall.

I know Star Wars belongs to Disney now, but I would really like it if we could have a darker era of Star Wars. The Mandalorian was very much a good mix of doom & gloom as well as inspiration. Rogue One was pretty dark too since all the main characters were doomed to die for story and there was lots of laughs to be had nonetheless from K-2SO for instance. I don’t want this bullshit writing of just endlessly leaching off the better movies with no original ideas and none of that Mary Sue horseshit either. I think rian is a great directory of photography - some of visuals and scenes were really well done (the white plains with the red dust in the desert was exceptionally creative and well executed) ... but the movie really just threw away so much (killing snoke like that? shifting the romance from fin and rey to fin and rose, etc.) to cheap laughs (luke pitching his lightsaber, etc.) to really bad characters and writing (the entire chase thing, the reason they were fugitives on the casino planet - was double parking?? wtf?). KK left star wars worse than rudderless - no one involved really knew star wars or how to even make a coherent story with character arcs, plot points or any kind of proper investment or escalation.
