Okay, here's why Williams' Star Wars soundtracks are so well done. The musical cues that begin this piece are the same as the fanfare from A New Hope in the medal scene, but muted and somber obviously. Good callback, use it for another movie's finale but the tone is wildly different. Second, the ESB soundtrack as a whole is the most perfect and cohesive example of the music acting as a character as well as echoing the storytelling. Sheer brilliance.

There are many great composers, and some who can weave in more subtext and complexity, but nothing can rival the sheer purity of Williams. He tackles the central themes with such elegance and straightforwardness, the rises and falls mirror the fluctuations of the human spirit and go directly into your soul. He can tell you the whole story with a few notes and motifs. Other composers create tracks to frame and provide backdrop to the movies. Williams’s tracks ARE the movies. It is in this regard that he is unparalleled and is not only an icon of music and cinema, but of humanity itself. I still recall the first time I heard the theme from Jurassic Park in its entirety. It was almost a religious moment. For a brief moment, it felt as if I glimpsed the meaning of the struggle of life. Which of course was an underlying theme of the movie. I don’t think I’ve ever felt that way again.

I feel so blessed to have attended my local premiere in 1980 as well as Star Wars' in 1977. People today cannot imagine how magical these releases were to us and how much the special editions, lamentable prequels etc have diminished these classics.
@sealionstudios85976 жыл бұрын
Jeff Duke Well you don't have to like the new stuff but never think the power of the original classics has diminished. The Force is strong with them.

Jeff,i was the same! Watching them back in 77,80,83 was the best memories of my childhood along with all the action figures,spaceships etc. It was a very special time that i would love to relive it all again.

To a lot of us our Star Wars and childhood aren't Luke, Han or Leia. Its Anakin, Asohka, The Republic, Seperatist, Knights of The Old Republic, Sith Lords and Jedi in their prime. Our childhood toys aren't Tie Fighters or Imperial Star Destroyers our childhoods will always be Jedi Starfighters, Jedi Cruisers, Vulture Droids etc.

A romantic piece that shifts to such a powerful montage of every major theme from the movie...I'd kick so many others into the pit to keep John Williams.

The look on Admiral Piett face as Darth Vader walks of the bridge. He sure thought he was dead. Darth Vader, said nothing as his silence of defeat followed him!!!!!

This music gives me very similar feelings to that from another great movie ending, The Fellowship of the Ring. That sense that the heroes have lost, for the time being, but the battle wages on and hope still lives. Time is rushing onwards and so, along with it, are the heroes, off to face their next adventure in the hopes that it will be a victory. Always gives me the goosebumps.

It's Corellian smuggler's gear, most probably stored onboard the Falcon. I always took it that, seeing they both are about the same height and build, Lando changed into more fitting gear after he became wanted by the Empire.

The ESB & Raiders soundtracks are the most perfect & beautiful of all times... it's that simple... I truly believe John Williams & Phil Jackson are the most legendary men to ever walk the earth.....🌚

Empire strikes back has to be one of, if not the best out of the star wars films. The dark theme of it, the storyline and of course the iconic "I am your father" scene. Also the music at 1:00 just fits so well with the ending. Such a damn good film

This is my absolute favorite rendition of the Imperial March. It sounds more intimidating without the drums and the overemphasis of the bass, like the Empire is just rubbing it in your face that they won.

I was born in 1983. When I was a kid I'd watch this on our old BETA MAX player. This is probably my all time favorite movie EVER. The music. The story. Everything instantly takes me back to a kid in the 80s sitting in front of the TV on a Saturday afternoon with some popcorn.

5:36 - 5:50 John Williams consistently delivers masterpieces, but man was he feeling inspired on that bit. It's almost impossible to listen to that without raising your hands as if you were conducting the orchestra.
