Definately, this mold is from 1997! Hasbro did retool it several times, but i just can't fathom why they didn't just use Poe's to make a Luke X-Wing.

There are some updates, pretty much the whole nose section is new, the rear cockpit glass also. I think they went a little too heavy on the weathering, but I'd need to compare to the 77 or SE Luke models to be sure. I might get it. I'm pretty happy with my Red 2. Not sure my shelf needs two T-65s, and I'm a HUGE X-Wing buff.

The door on the bottom harkens back to the scene on Dagobah where Luke is loading all of his gear back in the X-Wing when he departs for Cloud City. It would have been cool if the two silver gray boxes from the vintage Dagobah swamp set fit in that hold. The flip over missile launcher is in the same spot where the concussion missiles launch, see sides of toy. Play value can include ground crew reloading missiles on ground. Great review!!!!!!

I think that little compartment on the bottom is a leftover from when this toy was released as the Dagobah X-Wing, 13 years ago. In fact, this entire mold is almost 20 years old and it seems to be holding up pretty well. Although the wings do seem to get a bit droopy over time.

I’m sorry that’s incorrect. This model is from 2011. It has an entirely different body from dagobah x wing (2002). The dagobah toy does not have an opening bottom hatch. The hatch was added in 2011 when Hasbro created the body for the toys r us exclusive “trench run” battle pack. This model is 8 years old. Not 15.

I paid $25.00 for the Toys R Us version that first came out back in 1998 or so. It had all the dialog from the Trench Run & Luke was built in. The Targeting Computer lit up too

Despite any of the small inaccuracies (I can't even tell) this thing looks amazing. It's model-like and miles above that vintage Kenner toy (which I had). It looks huge. Studio scale. I'll be picking up the reissue next year.

The very first one that came out in this model was Luke's I remember getting it from Toys R us in 2007 it was the Degobah swamp landing paid like $40 dollars for and lost it in a situation I had always wanted it again so I'll definitely be picking this up

Actually the shape and size of the nose on the Degobah Swap X-Wing is more narrow and slightly shorter. This mold is originally from the 2013 Red 3 X-Wing which was new at the time and has become the defaco standard every since.

@@mandalorejangofett Wrong. You need to have owned both, like me, to know. The scales are slightly different. The cockpit on Red-3 is WAY more detailed (and was the first to include the targeting system) and the Red-3 can also remove the nose (for easy storage) Also the nose has a hidden missile launcher and an opening hatch under the ship to put accessories in. Not to mention the Red-3's forward landing gear is concealed. The body is a completely new mold. I think only the wings look identical. They obviously look the same but the dimensions are off a little. The Red 3 fixed ALL the issues and was closer to scale. Since then... they've reused that mold every time. If you haven't seen them side-by-side in person, you cannot know that. Watching it through a video screen cannot tell you that either.

The hatch near the back is where survival supplies are stowed (you can see it used in Empire Strikes Back). Hoping they update this one, but not holding my breath. Sucks they didn't include Luke and R2. Oh well. I have the new falcon and the newer TIE Fighter (my two faves ship designs from the OT) and good enough for me! Thanks for the review Bossk!!

The paint app is so beautiful......but man spending 100 bucks on a old 2011 mold is a really easy pass especially considering the new Poe xwing is the same price(all knew tooling).....Also the emperial tank was 80 and that was a all knew tooling as well!!!..... I'm gonna wait and see if it will reduce in price like those emperial tank/VC tie fighters. But as always, great video Tim!! Managed to grab one from a local guy here in the Netherlands for EUR105 - NIB at that! What a nice Christmas present for myself. Then I ordered Luke and R2D2 off of ebay, the s-foil fix from shapeways and today a stand from zacparis on ebay. This will be EPIC!

Actually this is the same re-used 1998 Power of the Force 2 Red 5 X-Wing that had lights and sound and the non-removable Luke and R2! This mold has been used for every X-Wing since right down to Red Leader and Biggs and Wedge! All they did was remove Luke and R2 and take away the lights and sounds and add cockpit features and of course they have all been repainted several times!!!!

This is definitely on my to get list. I thought it was a repaint of red 3. It looks to have the same issues. I have not found a way to make the landing gear better but have solved the s-foil issue. There is a replacement mechanism by shapeways. It is a 3D print and works great. Takes out all the losseness and is great.

It's a repaint of the Death Star Trench Run Toy R Us Exclusive. It came with Vader's TIE fighter. The original had the same problem with the wings. You can actually improve it a bit if you're willing to open it up. It's pretty easy to put back together. Just a series of screws. I dipped the lever mechanism in boiling water and the bent the opposite end slightly. After that, you need to submerge it in ice water. Put it back together and presto. Wings open up wider. I had hoped they had improved on the design with this one. Still looks good though. Beautiful paint job. I'm still definitely getting it and fixing the problem.

I picked up an original Kenner X-Wing toy from a charity shop about 30 years ago. It was a bit grubby and sad, so I repainted it myself to looks used and a little battle-worn. I probably also made it into Red 2, since I love Wedge, but it's been packed for moving house and I haven't seen it in a while.

Yeah its a re paint of Red 3 Biggs' X wing. My opinion differs on the quality of the weathering I think it looks poorly slapped on. I prefer to weather them myself. The cockpit control panel repaint seems to be the only good new thing about it. (The yoke being attached to the panel is actually movie accurate, having it on the floor would be wrong). The door in the underside of The fuselage is for storage The way Luke uses it in ESB when preparing to leave for Bespin, although it wont fit the grey ice cream maker he puts in it. The engines should light up and the wing plastic should be strengthened to prevent sagging.

No it's for storage. Rewatch ESB when Luke is preparing to leave Dagobah for Bespin he packs up his gear in there. Including the infamous ice cream maker. The droids have to be loaded from above an issue they corrected in the horrible sequels. This did bother me, but Luke must have used the force to raise R2 up in the air and place him in his spot.

Is this exactly the same as the trench run set x wing? It looks like it, I have the set in my collection, I got it on sale at a toys r us just after Xmas, about ten years ago I think, I'm pretty sure it was dropped down to? 99:99,or £199:99, it was that long ago I can't remember, I do remember that I was buying quite a few vehicles from the vintage and legacy series stuff, I think I paid £300:00 for the vc millennium falcon and around the same for the vc return of the jedi AT-AT-AT. I got the hoth battle set with the,AT-AT, gun turret set, they made some amazing stuff from 2009 to 2013/14, the snow speeder in the legacy collection is brilliant, when you set all the hoth stuff up with a couple of legacy collection at-St walkers it makes a dream come true star wars diorama and battle scene, I'm so proud that I'm lucky enough to own a lot of the star wars figures and v from the different legacy, 30th anniversary, build a droid and legacy collection era stuff, that's when hasbro made the best and most acc star wars toys ever made.

Jeez, gotta say that this release does not seem great for the price tag. I expected something a bit more solid/updated. My X-Wing is currently in the post, not sure I’ll keep it. I never knew/realised the marks on the wing represented the call sign! So many years oblivious 😂👍🏻

Yeah, they did a great job with this release! The wings are full sized, and not stubby anymore like they were back in the original release. The damage details and weathered markings look great. Love how there is now a slot with which to place R2-D2, or any other astromech figure. That storage area under the cockpit was seen in The Empire Strikes Back. It is indeed the area where X-wing pilots keep their survival/camping gear, perhaps additional weapons, small cargoes. (Rig it with a miniature life-support system, one could try to smuggle out persons of interest to the Empire, though the ride might be a wee bit uncomfortable.) LOL! Always loved the T-65 Xwing from the Original Trilogy and Rogue One. Never really cared for the T-72's from the Sequels. They look too fragile. (Not a statement on the quality of the movies, just a tech preference. :) ) Thank you for sharing this video. May the Force Be With You and Yours.

This x-wing overall is very nicely built. But there is one problem beside the price point for this x-wing is the wing. Why is there a big hollow hole in the engine area when opening the s foil. Really sad to see Hasbro didn't make a good job for this version and the price being so expensive. Compare to Poe new xwing I'm getting that instead of this which has better built solid wing.

I have the red 3 version... the deco is fantastic nevertheless...dunno if I should get this one...🤔 for over 100 dollars, Hasbro should have re-tooled the older mold to make it more accurate to scale and add more features like Poe's x-wing. Laziness on Hasbro's part. I believe the older T-65 x-wing is slightly larger compared to the new T-70 x-wing that poe flies in. So the poe x-wing is quite accurate in scale in 3.75. Still a fantastic vehicle.

I have the Poe version and was feeling like I had to have this one as well. I still want this one but compared to the Poe version, this one just looks dated. The wings not closing properly really bugs me. The 2 piece hull is really bad looing. That gap is huge. Still, a far cry from the one I played with as a kid. Thanks for the review. Oh, is there a plate that covers up the arms of R2 while he's in the back like the Poe version had? I can see what looks like slots for something there.

It's great looking in detail paint. The shape and everything. But the wings and doors for the landing gear suck. Not ditching on the design for those mechanisms. Well there old mechanisms now compared to Poe's X Wing. If it's an old product from 2011 it should be around $50. With that said Disney should make all of this cheap. But showing that they did care to create Poe's X Wing with new mechanisms. Why couldn't they do that to lukes?

Just noticed on mine the wings are flush on port side, but have the same size gap as yours to starboard. So, exact issue as yours but on the opposite wings. I wonder how many are out there that actually rest flush on both sides? Probably plenty that are off on both sides too?

Maybe the mechanism favours one side, just guessing but could be the reason

Nice painting but old problems. Why is there still no solution for the wings. Have the Red 1, Red 5 FX, Red 5 Trench Run, two Red 2, and two Red 3. Pass this time and go for the much better built Poe Dameron X-Wing.
