The Deathstar exploding into a ball of fire was done that way because it looked cooler and had a bigger impact in your mind. Lucas knew it didn't make sense, but made the decision anyway to heighten viewer enjoyment of the scene. And, as you said, it dissipated quickly so it's not even a big deal. Fires burning continuously in space is just people taking that singular moment in the main trilogy and using it to justify their total lack of knowledge on the subject. I hate when people do this.

Remember, Kennedy and her fellow wokies get to approve anything involving Star Wars and have probably killed dozens of non-woke project ideas in the past. For example, Mandalorian slipped through because it was about non-political bounty hunter, though once it gained slight popularity, the Harpy Kennedy intervened and it turned into faces. IOW, Star Wars is in the slow process of controlled demolition.
