A little tip here, find plastic bags that will fit inside the container, lap it over the edge of the jar, and screw the lid on. when it gets full, remove the plastic bag and dispose of the flies, add a fresh bag and bait, and go again!

We have horses and have used fly traps for years. We have them hanging out to the barn in many different places. The more flies that get trapped, the grosser the smell. The grosser the smell, the more flies that are attracted and caught. We love our traps.

Great to hear. I find them helpful in reducing the numbers during some of the peak months of the summer. It doesn’t rid them completely, but definitely helps make it more manageable. Thanks for watching and providing your feedback.

Good stuff! I was researching some different flytraps and one of the top articles at the time was about how traps like in this very video were unethical. For FLIES. Anyway that article lead me to this video, trying to make some more informed decisions on some insect pest problems. Idk why I didn’t just use KZbin first. Clickbait bs about ethics in fly extermination… Jesus Lord

@myaccount2825 We bought a stinky trap, put it about 30 feet from us. We caught hundreds of flies, problem is, it didn’t reduce the number of flies around our immediate vicinity. If anything , it attracted flies from much further away, so we didn’t accomplish much even after a week.

I am very impressed with the Star Bar fly trap. When it's full I close the pop up lid and submerge the container in bleach water until the larvae are dead then dump in the woods. Two neighbors saw how effective they were and bought some. I'm amazed there are any flys left we've caught thousands.

I just bought two of these. Put them out yesterday late afternoon. The flys couldn't wait to get in before I even got it setup. When I got it set up it took 15 seconds for a cloud of flys to appear and try to get in. In less than an hour I had a full layer of flies inside. When I went inside for the evening it had over an inch of flies. By this afternoon it had near 4 inches of flies. So I used my tongs to grab most of the flys into a plastic bag. Within an hour after that it had an inch of flies in it again. Amazing. The population of flys around my house has significantly dropped.

I clean the coop on a daily basis and change their drinking water too. Never had this problem but my neighbor bought some cattle and the fence is on the backside by the coop. So I'm ready to catch some or all of these pest because they are pretty bad right now. Thanks for the video and yes I enjoyed it 😁

That powder inside is instant yeast. Flies love sweet add sugar ,honey ,sweet juice etc. into a large jar water.1/2way up add 1/2 top of soda bottle turn the top part into the jar or cut the bottom half of a gallon of water or juice bottle. Tape or use putty to secure the top to the bottom of the jar or bottle so they could go in but they can’t get out that’s the key. I saved a piece of screen like a funnel and i use that.

Some people feed chickens diatomaceous earth... sounds fancy but it is one- celled fossil plants...(you can make chalk from it) This scratches the exoskeleton of insects and the diatomaceous earth dehydrates the inside of the insect. You can then feed said insects to your chickens. Two birds with one stone, or in this case two insects with one stone. Chickens like to dust bathe and you can apply it to their feathers, however don't breathe it in or let them breathe it in since it can coat your lungs and suffocate you and them.

there must be an ecological reason flies are here. they are very annoying if they are in your kitchen and where you eat. a big fly hatch inside your house can cause a lot of nuisance cleanup from where they poop all over windowsills and glass, i have had that happen when something in the garbage doesn't get removed quick enough, or something dies in a crawl space under you house. but removing them from areas where they don't bother anyone seems a bit pointless, maybe even egotistical. frogs, spiders, dragon flies, creatures like that depend on them. also the fly lifespan is a month. if you clean up the thing attracting them they will be gone shortly. the biting flies are a real problem. however i don't think this type of trap will attract them? dunno..
