It's funny how there has been no commercialized way to ACTUALLY get rid of these bastards. Tape fly traps are quite frankly disgusting and not a solution that is optimal by any means. Bug zappers don't really seem to do the trick. Bug repelling candles for outside use don't seem to work that well. Is it maybe the case that this is one of those patent blocker issues where people can't brand and market usable methods because people are literally sitting down every day submitting patents on all forms of working methods waiting to sue anyone who comes close to a feasible product? Or FDA issues that make it financially impossible to afford the amount of insurance you'd need to actually make an official product, while they do nothing to fix a food related infestation issues? I mean, if they're worried about people actually going for a full on genocide of these prick flies, they're definitely pushing all the right buttons to make me WANT to do that regardless of environmental impact because I don't care. Nature will find the new equilibrium when you add or take away a variable, the only question is how inconvenient or convenient it is to humans who have to deal with it. And pretty much anything is better than these turds unless they are somehow keeping back a hoard of AIDS infested mosquitos that we "JUST DIDN'T SEE COMING".

Did it with a hose from a vacuum. Sucked them suckers up SO fast. I then baking soda vinegar cleaned drains and covered all water sources including toilet lids and sink/shower holes. Sprayed out the dishwasher with vinegar then Lysol wiped surfaces and it was a one two punch and done situations and very little time besides simple wiping even in the fridge I used baking soda and vinegar then cleaned the surfaces with sanitizer and dried them well before closing up the fridge. But no kill is coolest if you can use panty hose and a vacuum or something like that to temporarily trap and release it’s a hack I’ve tried out of “sheer necessity” 😅 It can simply come down to how many lil dudes ya got due to what have you’s n such and give it your whole heart❤ Much love! @leesweets4110 Жыл бұрын
In my experience, you want to dilute the apple cider vinegar down a bit. I still havent gotten the ratios right but 3:1 vinegar to water seems to be descent at the moment. The thing is, straight vinegar is too strong and there is a tendency to actually repel the flies rather than attract them. Thats just been my experience. Let me know if yours is different. Id honestly like to get some verification on that, because there might be something else going on here. One thing I have noticed though is that store-bought traps will have a fluid sold with them, which smells a lot like apple cider vinegar but will be a lot more watery looking; I dont know if this is a refined recipe, or if they're just getting cheap, or if there is an entirely different chemical in it. But it kind of suggests to me that Im on the right track. The store-bought stuff is way more effective though; still dont know why.
@samguy7209 Жыл бұрын
I agree, I water it down a bit and use dish soap with a fruit smell like orange. It attracts them within minutes and I put the sticky traps near or attach to the cup I use to catch them faster.

I lived in a town that had an art district. Few streets with small restaurants also and all had outside patios. Entire town was in old orange grove section of Orange county Calif. Many still had orange trees in yards but never picked the fruit. Rotten fruit on ground. So if at outside patio of restaurants we all put napkins over our red wine. One wasnt so bad and I asked what brand the traps were that I saw hung up inside and out and noted they worked so well. Waitress said oh its not the trap. We put red wine in them!

This does work very well, the problem we have also is finding the source because we keep everything put up and we even rinse out any containers or cans that go in the trash to try to remove any food or juice. But we live in an apartment building with a total of 8 and I believe some are coming through the drain pipes. I will try the idea of putting the vinegar down the drain and I think I'll also start closing the when not in use. Thanks for the video and the ideas😊

I had a really bad infestation in my place, but I beat it with traps like these. I used yoghurt cups, so I didn't have anything to clean after. I would put plastic foil over, then fasten it with 2 (!) rubber bands, and then poke holes with a match since that seems to create the perfect size and shape of a hole. I have not tried using vinegar and dish soap, but it's probably the better way to go about it. My traps kept them alive, and... you don't want that. I put banana peels in there. It lured in 50-80 within days, but after 5-7 days, larvae would hatch in there. They are nasty as hell and they can creep back out through the hole or squeeze past the rubber band (but not through 2).

I’ve been using this method for a couple of weeks and I catch plenty of them in the traps BUT more keep coming. I see no decrease at all. I have no fruit or any food sitting around, I wash every dish as soon as I use it, and trash gets emptied several times a day. Very frustrating and NOT as easy as you make it seem!
@stevenalderley9036 Жыл бұрын
There will be a source somewhere if they're still coming even after traps are set and no trash in the house. They can be very difficult to get rid of especially if you've been overrun with them.. but they won't stick around for nothing and new ones won't appear for no reason. Fruit flys are all about smell and they go with what attracts them. It could be that you have removed all possible sources and its the apple cider vinegar in the traps which are now attracting new ones? Maybe after you next empty the traps...don't set any new ones, make sure everywhere is clean, trash out etc... give it a day and see if they are still coming.

YESSSSSSSSSSSS finally someone with the same problem as me lol. Dude I had hundreds last summer and just like you I have ZERO sources that I can pinpoint. At one point I had cleaned my entire apartment head to toe and kept it that way for a week or two and still hundreds spawning in. The thing is, I read everywhere that they require soft gooey stuff to lay eggs in and that material literally doesn't exist in my place. If it gets as bad this summer as it did last summer, I'll prob just move units. Oh yeah and the apple cider vinegar basically had no effect, like it only killed a dozen at a time. I will say that the sticky tape that you hang from ceilings had a massive effect, not that it mattered much since they still came in droves but yeah. When winter comes here in MN it gets rid of them, but past couple days I've seen a couple and I'm just flabbergasted at the persistency of these damn things.

If you set a trap of any sorts (they seem to absolutely love pumpkin spiced beers as I found out) you can also instantly eliminate them as they rush w.e it is you have set up, and if you happen to have a larger handheld butane torch... such as the ones used in kitcnens and bars, you can slowly get up close to the savages while they are going for the bait and roast them rather easily and very quickly. Even if a few escape and try to fly away.. as they are no where near as elusive as a stand house fly... you can use the same torch and hit them mid air rather easily lol makes for an interesting game of one way tag haha

Those are fungus gnats. They nest in plant potting soil. They are black in color with long legs. They are attracted to the color yellow, carbon dioxide, and light. They like moist warm places to nest. A possible trap for them is a jar or wine glass filled with water, sugar and yeast. The container should be topped with a yellow funnel. When watering the plant reduce the amount of water to the plant and mix an insect growth regulator into the water before watering the plant.

Why not just put a little bit of red wine in a glass then cover it with plastic poke holes they seem to be attracted to that more than anything that I have?

We came home from vacation and had a ton of fruit flies. I made the acv traps and actually vacuumed a lot of them!

He said fruit flies don’t bite, lol! I have been bitten by them countless times. Not only do they bite you, they use stealth by biting you in your lower legs and feet if they’re exposed.

Exactly they certainly do bite. I'm dealing with these flies and they are so annoying. But I'm working on resolving the issue.

Yes! They Do Bite😢 I had a raised bump on my face last year and one this year. Brats! Wipe your face after eating fruit. Especially Kiwis and Watermelon. Both are high in Fructose 🥺😡
