Awesome stuff! 🔥 Just got a starboard carve 101 from 2003 and can't wait to try it out, I've not really used a board as small as it before🤙

Awesome video. I feel you. I'm at that stage of trying to gain control on smaller boards. It's freakin tough!

Thanks Philippe! Just accomplished my first water stars too in the past couple months. I just returned to Windsurfing after a 30 year gap and having a blast! I too like seeing videos of regulars dudes getting better. Subscribe. I have a bunch of short videos and will be doing more this winter. Windy season in Florida. Cheers!

4:11. It’s inherently unstable to sail with just the front foot in the strap. If put in too early before there is enough wind, it just sinks the tail and slows the board down. When there is enough wind, put the front foot in, sheet in, weight on the harness, back foot in, the board should stay level as it speeds up, your weight now being partially supported by boom through the harness.

Good speed! Mast foot pressure is your friend. It allows you to get in the foot straps without blasting at full speed.
@marneyman4 жыл бұрын
Just push the rig away as the power comes on right?
@Westcoastwindsurf4 жыл бұрын
@@marneyman not quiet, push down on your boom. Think of mast as your third leg. So the weird is to be distributed between front foot and mast when going for the back strap.
@marneyman4 жыл бұрын
Ok, that makes sense, good description. What about the front strap?
@Westcoastwindsurf4 жыл бұрын
@@marneyman this works for me; From complete stop. 1 lean back and rig away to counterbalance the power - when shoulders are over the back foot, you can lift the front foot up (at this point the front foot is straight and you are accelerating) when lifting front foot you’ll naturally want to push down with your front arm (this keeps the board from turning into wind and slowing down). When in front strap, bear away (go down wind). When turning board down wind you’ll be pushing hard with the front foot (for the first few seconds) this is when your back leg is free to get into back strap (try lifting it up to practice). Mast foot pressure is key for both. Check out this video by a professional coach: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nl6aYohrnbyBic0

Good stuff!. I go sailing and am looking to get a windsurfer... I have to ask, if you had a more stable, more bouyant board would you enjoy it more? I'm looking to windsurf on the sea and don't want to go in that much. I think I'm going to buy a Starboard Start (theres the Go, but the start is like a proper boat)
@gusthunterwindsurfing9 ай бұрын
Yeah for just starting out you are on the right track by looking at a Starboard Start. Another option is the Starboard Rio line of long boards. I started with a Rio larg, 259L.
@danielmori5019 ай бұрын
@@gusthunterwindsurfing Cheers for the reply, I think the Start is the one, it's massive and so bouyant. The right forecast here gives no shorebreak. Cheers, happy sailing!
@allagreta99903 жыл бұрын
The more your arms are straight the less you can open or close your sail according to the ups and downs of the wind. Hence the harnessline a inch shorter and the Boom a inch lower.

That was a year or so ago. In the straps planing now. Working on planing out of carve jibes.
@simonparker49923 жыл бұрын
Can I ask, what's it like? I'm thinking of getting the same. I'm an improver. I can plane by accident and get into harness, promptly followed by falling off. Would a 151 be a suitable board, do you think?
@gusthunterwindsurfing3 жыл бұрын
This was my first Shortboard and it probably was a bit advanced for me. The important thing was that at 151L I could uphaul it. I weigh 250lbs. I would recommend the Goya Volar 160L as a first Shortboard. I currently ride it. It is more forgiving and stable.

I think your boom is too High for you, between breast and shoulders. Wait to Hook in when the Board has more speed. If the boom is Lower you can get in the footstraps more easyer and you have much more controle.. Good luck.
@NinjaSeb1238 ай бұрын
Your boom is too high. It looks uncomfortable.
@gusthunterwindsurfing8 ай бұрын
Yeah, I have since started lowering my boom, unless it is light wind and using an 8m or more sail. That was way to high for a 6.5.
@wisecoonie Жыл бұрын
Your harness is much, much too high. Get it down.
@gusthunterwindsurfing Жыл бұрын
I have gotten on Ion that fits me really well, and also a seat harness that I like to use when I am sailing my 5.5 and 4.9. Thanks for watching and the tip.
