the latest version of Create makes it so that water wheels will rotate at full speed no matter how much flowing water touches them. obviously the modpack isn't updated to the latest version of create but if It does it makes making water wheels look good more possible

Haven't played Create in a while, I think this is a good change but it's a little bitter sweet. It will make it easier to learn for sure but I liked being able to create low-speed water wheels for some machines. Ex: pre-0.5.1, you could make a bulk fan smelter that was just 1 block wide, by having a backward spinning water wheel into a single slow gear reduction to create a SUPER slow conveyor belt (made the belt take ~15.5seconds to move items 1 block, and 15seconds was the smelt time for a 16stack). Waterwheels were kind of like a generator and a gearbox all in one - how you applied the water was the gearbox, and this meant things could be quite compact. Guess it's not a big deal but now I need a lot of gears to do the same thing, or a bigger smelter, which both look worse. But, again, it's easier to learn and I think that's more important. I wish they'd make the rotation speed controller block easier to build to offset this though.

I don't have like any Create experience (actually, IDEK if water wheels are Create), but I seem to recall there being a device you can point at them to check the RPM? Also, you can use gearboxes to step up the speed (if you haven't already).

Wait, can’t you use smaller gears to power the machines even faster? Like, have the big gear (powered by the water mill) move the smaller gear, and then have the smaller gear power the machine you want to use

The answer is, you probably/maybe can, but only up to a certain point. Create mod tracks both rotational speed and rotational power. As speed increases, so does power. This is true for generators (slow water wheel = low power, fast = high power) and loads (slow fan = low power, fast = high power). Each generator generates a certain amount of power, and you can't consume more than this. Different loads consume different amounts of power. Grind wheels consume a lot (and are hard to drive fast), conveyor belts consume nothing (and can be driven as fast as create will allow). Things get more complicated when you have multiple generator sources and multiple loads connected to the same powertrain (really only sensible if you have big power generators that can drive multiple loads). The mod adds tools to help visualize all this but I find it's easier to just slap a gear reduction in and see what happens.

I checked the changelogs for the modpack and I can't find it mentioning 0.5.1 hopefully it gets updated cus the water wheels are so much better

the apotheosis mod makes the sugarcane grow to max sky limit.. snad may also be in this but the benefit of snad is growing it faster or instantly giving it a redstone clock signal
