The guy is an impact player. The reason he is in the squad is because of the control that Hazelwood and Cummins offer (Boland too)! He is free to be a bit inconsistent and do his thing. Once in a while he will win you a test on his own and that’s why inconsistency is tolerated.

At his prime he was one of the best bowlers in tests from 2014-2018! But last few years he has been avg infact around 2021 he was completely out of form. But since last year ashes he was pretty good and aus's best bowler who helped them draw the series! The current starc just enjoys when the ball swings thats it. Thats why seeming swinging pink ball favours him more since he doesnt have that 150 pace anymore!

What peak are you talking about in test cricket,I have seen this a lot from Indian fans specifically who are scarred by starc in world cups and thus think that's he was a great fast bowler in. Test cricket which he never was barring two years
@Yesaps16 күн бұрын
@Sid-e5y that's what I said his peak. Maybe like most cricket fans u have a short memory. Just see his stats u don't get 350+ test wickets in < 90 test wickets by being avg! That too in australia and not England. At his peak, he was great even in Asian conditions with the reverse swing!

that's the problem I have with nostalgia wankers tbh. I mean they love to parade around the older gen of batters facing Mcgrath and Warnie. But what they fail to understand is that if you make a tally for Aus's best pacers Patty,Haze comes under top 5 and Starc at top 7-8 easily along with the fact that Lyon is no slouch either and by far Aus's second best spinner(not even close to Warnie by a mile but he is easily top 3 spinners of this era). Overall the new gen faces Patty+Haze+Starc and Lyon and that too on more bowler friendly surfaces in comparison to 00-16 tours of Aus which makes this attack a lot more dangerous than any other. Sure Mcgrath and Warnie sits around as number 1-2 as the best bowler of any time but the overall attack comes off with Lee,Mcgill,Braken and Bichel type of guys along with the fact that Johnson and Jason were only great in their prime red form and were really off the mark otherwise and the pitches were also legit flat since 03 timeline in Aus.
@SARYM91116 күн бұрын
I don't know..Doesn't the flatness of pitches argument actually work in the favour of the older bowlers?Mcgrath shouldn't even be anywhere near this whole conversation..His record is flawless almost everywhere despite having a chunk of his later career on uber flat pitches..With a no.1 guy like that and a spinner like Warne, the 1-2 punch can be greater than many other solid lineups, and the likes of Gillespie were more than enough to complement the big 2...The first time they got tested in Australia against Inida was when there wasn't any Mcgrath, as with the Ashes 2005 where he got injured
@akshaybhatt337816 күн бұрын
@SARYM911 i wasn't going for the older gen bowlers but the older gen batters. Because the usual gig is: the past gen were like fighting some giants and dragons while the new gen batters are shit without looking at basic data that analysis, overall strength of bowling attacks(as average pacers are coming out better than the previous eras because of talent, better mechanics and funding pool) are a notch harder than what the older gen faced.
@SARYM91116 күн бұрын
@akshaybhatt3378 yeah this absolutely is a much tougher era for batters overall minus some roads in pakistan...Few of the older gen would have transcended even in these conditions..obviously talking about someome like Tendulkar who was really impressive in his last stints in South Africa against a very formindable bowling attack..but yeah the numbers of most past batsmen would have taken a hit

When the ball swings, Starc will destroy no matter the colour of the ball. The issue is that Australian pitches don't really actually favour Starc's bowling style as much as they do for the other two bowlers. He likes to pitch it up, and not bowl into the pitch, like Hazlewood and Cummins do. Boland has better numbers but Starc is really a much more skilled bowler. If he played more in England with the Dukes since the start, he would've had much better numbers because he would've been in the game much longer.

The thing about Starc is that he perfectly compliments the other two (three if you include Boland). When you've got another 2 blokes in the attack who are metronomic, you want a wild thing style impact player. That's exactly what he is. He's underrated as a roleplayer and we'll miss him when he hangs the boots up

All those who are wondering why he is an average bowler with red ball it's because he simply is And all those who thinks he's this grear red ball bowler it's because when he is on he's just lethal he can single handedly destroy the opponent that's why he's best but often time he's off color and his aggressiveness tends to favor batsman

@khurramali3634 Bro Listen again Hazelwood , Pat Cummins , Rabada these are proper Seamers Their ball don't bends it's trajectory in air But moves after pitching If the pitch is favourable Aka the Grass and the bounce their ball will deviate either of sides after pitching Boult , Anderson and Starc are Swingers Their ball don't deviate much after pitching They bends the curve of ball in air And after pitching it deviates very minutely in same going direction That's why they bowl fuller to keep ball most of time in air Bumrah is a hybrid He uses most of times Seam That's why no fuller lenght But his ball bends trajecty in air And Before pitching it may swing a very little bit After pitching deviates from the direction too much And after passing the batsman it bends too much towards one direction Since here most of time the swing in ball is useless because ball have passed the batsman So you can call him a Seamer Akashdeep bowls with same length of Starc and uses Swing Siraj uses seam , his ball don't bend trajectory after passing Batsman Pink ball offers more swing so Starc is lethal here Seaming Balls depends on pitch and Seam of ball , which is not so better in Pink ball like Red ball Not only Starc, here a Good Swinger would have ripped any Line up just like him So That's why Pink ball and Swinger is a deadly Combo

Swing is about air movement, Bumrah's major skills are in his angle with which his ball comes from and then deviation off the pitch. Even his yorkers are about creating that weird angle and not about pure swing likw Starc's. In both the line ups in this test, Starc is the only main swing bowler here.
