The military already has A.I. doing strategy btw, they have some pretty cool tech that is public knowledge. But the final decisions always go to humans except for close defense systems which obviously don't have time to be reviewed and there's no repercussions if they misfire. It's important to note the distinction between general A.I. and the current A.I. models that we have. What kirbyjoe said is general A.I. which does not apply to this or chat gpt, or your common prompt based stuff. These A.I. are trained for a specific task through machine learning, that's all they will ever do. They inform us on how to program more efficiently and help us learn about them for other purposes, but all they do is play SC2. The same way generative A.I. just takes something humans did and makes an answer to it. Meaning if humans stop doing stuff, they just get stuck in time. General A.I., meaning A.I. that self teaches and evolves similar to us humans is way way off despite what most people think@@Durrtyboy

Thanks for the Cast!!! For those wondering, these bots are around Diamond. Though the top bots have take a game off of a GM before (only the first game though 😅)
@BrisingrFan55 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Google's Alpha bots had to play the equivalent of thousands of hours, if not decades worth of games to reach professional-level decision making and plays iirc. I can't imagine the botmakers here have access to the server power for that sort of intensity haha. Diamond is still really impressive though! Compared to any of the AI in Starcraft, even with cheats, these AI are clearly better without access to any cheats. Am I also correct that the messages the bots type out are pre-programmed messages made by the bot programmers? I imagine they're useful for debugging, essentially.
@Ketroc Жыл бұрын
My favourite analogy is, imagine every unit being micro'ed by a pro player, but all the decisions are being made by a bronze-league player. That is how bots average out to diamond'ish league level.

@@Ketrocindeed, perhaps there should be an AI league with ai capped at around 800-1000 APM? Would this force developers to build intelligence?
@asdfqwerty14587 Жыл бұрын
@@basicuser54 It's not like the bot developers are intentionally making the AIs stupid, it's just that it's really really hard to code an AI that handles the general case intelligently. You can make an AI that plays well in a few specific scenarios, but as soon as something unexpected happens the AI has no idea how to respond, and it's incredibly difficult to fix that.
@Ketroc Жыл бұрын
@@basicuser54 Decisions in assessing a situation is what bots are poor at. Lowering apm would mostly just be a process of removing redundant commands and grouping units who need a similar command... So it'd mostly just be making more overhead for authors in terms of micro. If our bots ever become too strong for humans then maybe limiting apm for fairness would be a good idea.

Before getting into AI, Ketroc was a very entertaining streamer who had a unique Turtle Terran style focused on Ravens and mass economy planetary fortresses. Lowko, the reason they are spamming worker move command is: the acceleration is different depending on whether the worker is set to "return minerals"/"gather" or "move." please cast more of these. And just to clarify, what i understand is that the difference between the google AI and those, is that the google one was self-learning, it would play millions of games and hone it's skills, but to do that efficiently the environment should be really controlled (like a specific map on a specific match up) otherwise something that was good on one situation would not be on another, and that's where the AI struggled. As for the AI shown in the video, they were hand-made, so they can get those crazy ultra calculated micro and unit positioning, but one thing that is almost impossible is to mimic the human capabilities of analyzing the situation. It is really hard to the AI to process all the information it is receiving into a kind of "understanding" of the situation. I think this is mostly due to the lack of pattern recognizing skill that our brain has well developed.

Quick answers for those not used to watching custom AI's: There's a gentlemen's agreement not to have the bot read the messages from the opponent. The messages are stored separately from the replays so when there's tons of replays the creator can easily sift through certain strategies and tags for replays that they care about. Also bot makers do make human-like messages purely for the viewer's enjoyment. None of the messages are human written in real time. Additionally the 2nd base is the most common base that bots attack, some almost exclusively(to get to the first). Even if you would otherwise never use PF's, a PF on the second provides a ton of value in bot matches. Air units are massively easier to maneuver for bots because the pathing is a straight line(no cliffs or obstacles to worry about), so air gets some favor by bot creators. The "dancing" some units have comes from conflicting commands to attack a target and stay out of a target's attack range.
